    I got the previous gen Legion Slim 7 with the 5800h and RTX3060, 500gb NVME boot drive, and a 2560x1440p 165hz IPS. It's fantastic, I just love it, for basically all of the relevant similar reasoning you mentioned - the blend of real portability and performance (accepting some compromises), the beautifully machined metal chassis, the fantastic screen, and the understated design. Unfortunately the older model I have lacks the HDMI port which I do miss, and it doesn't have the AMD Advantage features either. I upgraded to 24gb of RAM and a 1tb NVME and frankly this is in the wheelhouse of my perfect laptop. I don't want a desktop replacement - I love my desktop - I want a portable machine which I can use for work (handling all my productivity sufficiently) but also handles some games. Since I'm not trying to run Cyberpunk or Hogwarts Legacy on the laptop (saving them for my desktop), it's perfect. I can jump into Division 2 with my friends at tweaked settings fine, or play a round of Civ 6 or a quick Vampire Survivors run on the couch. My desktop couldn't be used for a few days recently (due to construction works in the room) and I didn't miss a beat because the laptop covered all my usages.

    2:10 unfortunate that they got rid of the 2nd m.2 slot, it looks like it almost made it to the design, considering the space next to the battery (the older 2 generations of slim 7s had one m.2 next to the battery and the other right below the caps lock key). I know these videos are a bit showcase-like, but just like the Slim 7 video it’s still nice to see what OEMs have been up to with the latest hardware

The frame is bending too. These new gel pack batteries are utter garbage. laptops need to be given more credit, i got a asus Rog with r9 5900HX and rtx 3060, love playing games at 1080p on it with dual monitors connected via USB C. it can not ONLY game, but stream and record NGS pso2 on almost Ultra settings. I agree the ryzen are a beast in clocks/ cores however i was interested in seeing the temps of the CPU; my ryzen with liquid metal gets to 93c when turbo boost is on, and around 78c with it off during uigene heaven benchmark. Many might look down on laptops, but they are a good alternative for those that don't wanna tinkle with PC componants and are planning to buy a new pc, especially with the current prices of GPUs. The big plus is being able to take it with you when having to travel for work or hoildays, as long as you got wifi, you can game MMO too. These laptops do put up a fight, at least way better than my amd FX desktop that i upgrade from.

    You never covered it that I could tell, but does this have soldered on RAM to the board, meaning there is zero way to upgrade the ram in the future? If so, this is terrible and should NOT be supported. We need to stop supporting companies and platforms that are fine with or try to push the 'soldered on/non-upgradeability' crap like Apple is pushing hard. Even Acer/Predators still have easy access panels on the bottom, and the ability to upgrade the ram as high as 64GBs. It hurts my heart to see "gaming" laptops with like zero upgradeability besides NVMe storage. I'd love to return to the days of removable laptop GPU "cards" and "expansion bays" like the old Lenovo Y410/Y510P laptops(you could add a second card to replace the disk drive and run them in SLI!).
    But people are more consumerish than ever, and I doubt the days of 'do it yourself' are ever coming back. Sad.
    Edit: Just rewatched the video. You covered that it has a SINGLE slot for "up to" 16GB of added memory...this is honestly terrible. Especially for a "gaming" rig. Mismatched RAM, especially one being GDDR6 and the other being GDDR5..meh. This is a hard pass for me. Still recommend Predator laptops over anything modern Lenovo, which hurts. Because I adore older Lenovo stuff.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England ปีที่แล้ว

      I think we are getting to the point where SoCs are so reliable that having modular design for RAM is moot in respect of repairability. As for upgradeability, then that is another story, and I do agree that in prosumer laptops which include gamers, then your request is reasonable. There are exceptions, and these are around business models, for example, Apple, they make most of their profits from revenue for RAM and storage upgrades when ordered. So for them, having upgradeable components would be a disaster and mean long term suicide.
      Ultrabooks, like tablets and phones, will inevitably move to a SoC design with no modularity as it is not needed. Business ultrabooks maybe having removable storage for data protection compliance is the exception.

      Typically, TDP scales down with smaller footprints. Haven't looked closely at the Zephyrus, but in the case of our last Lenovo Yoga video, the 14" model featured a lower TGP than its 16" counterpart. Additionally, some may actually prefer the 16" model for its larger screen in games.

    • @kmnjdsni
      @kmnjdsni ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GregSalazar I value portability more than size, but you are obviously right, especially people with no external monitor at home will favor a bigger Display. Afaik the Lenovo is around 5-7% faster in benchmarks due to higher TDP.

    A friend of mine has an earlier Legion laptop, and it had the camera on the bottom of the screen bezel...and it is a horrible placement...it basically turns it into an up--nostral cam (coming soon to OnlyFans, LOL!)...as she is a university Prof and uses the system to record lectures, this would not do. So I sourced her a very good clip on webcam, and that is what she has been using with great satisfaction. It's good the Lenovo/Legion has fixed this problem.
    ps.I am typing this on a dual AMD latop, an ASUS TUF Gaming with a AMD Ryzen 5 3550H with a Radeon RX560X GPU, and it was a great deal for the $600 CDN (~$450 USD). Runs Windows 10 and Manjaro Linux really well...although the wifi/bleutooth card is a tad flakey, so I am going to be replacing that.

    $1700 for a laptop 💀 for that price just build a really nice pc, you can probably get a i7-13700k and a 3080 pc for around that price
