In this battle, Discord didn't have to destroy Bill, he just had to save Fluttershy... and the others too I guess.
So he tricked Bill back into the Nightmare Realm where he'd be trapped if he stayed in too long. True Discord was destroyed but as long as there's chaos in Equestria he will reform again in time.
Kinda losing the battle but winning the war here.

@@derndern6309 That's the thing about Discord, he doesn't play by anyones rules but his own. Winning the Death Battle wasn't his goal, his goal was to stop Bill, and he succeeded.

discord said "i know how you die" meaning he knows that bill will arrive to his canonical death anyway so it doesnt matter if he won their silly little battle. he saved his friends in this setup scenario db made up. thats all that matters to him.

5:50, those were actually the Bodies of Everyone in Gravity Falls that Bill turned to Stone so he can use it as his own Throne.
Funnily enough, the creator of Gravity Falls, and Owl House are dating. Dana has worked on Gravity Falls before, and both shows (along with Amphibia) are all connected.

The swap to the nightmare realm happened at the end of the hand puppet bit. When he snapped his fingers the version of Equestria they where "in" had a muchore muted color palette and no madness bubbles. It was an illusion discord put over the nightmare realm to hide the fact that that's where he took them

Technically it was a tie since they’re both immortal beings and as long as there is chaos in Equestria Discord will come back, but bill can get out of the nightmare realm by making deals. But technically discord won because he got what he wanted (he saved fluttershy), got the last laugh, and trapped bill in the nightmare realm again.
Discord is careless. Bill goes for the Goal.

For everyone saying the whole Bill may have won battle but discord won the war might I remind you that Bill will be back in Equestria the second he finds 1 pony to make a deal with then boom he invades and this time no discord to stop him because it states in the show that Discord will permanently die if his spirit is destroyed
Actually it's Ben said that as long as chaos is around discord will reform one day and Considering that they said that it took bill a Melania to find someone to make a deal with him it might take a while for him to come back to equestria, he might just try to find somewhere else to conquer and forget about equestria in the meantime considering he has a lot of options
They literally said that discord can time travel. Discord canonically cannot be destroyed unless the concept of chaos is destroyed (which is a problem for bill). He will reform in a few thousand years but time travel makes that meaningless. The reason discord wins is because he is the concept of chaos while bill only uses it.

I may not agree with the results but I love the episode.
in truth Discord knows he couldn't kill Bill and he couldn't kill him the only true way to win is the imprison the other, so that's what Discord did tricking Bill back into the nightmare realm then letting Bill kill him giving him a hollow victory and Discord is free to form even if it takes thousands of years he can always time travel back just moments after the rift closed and continue his life.
You make it sound like Bill is forever trapped...
@@EternalStorm796 not really he will get out sooner or later and knowing Discord he will make it more challenging to get back into Equestria but there is lots of other worlds Bill can go to.

Wrong, being able to know everything and literally mentioning your rival without a problem and had full awareness to his surroundings and being able to create universe and made it non existent yet again, I see how they downplayed Discord.

Late reply but even DB themselves admit Discord can comeback but it's unclear if he could come back quick enough to resume the fight so the win went to Bill.
Discord has Soul Regeneration,
One of their reasons for Bill winning was that he could regenerate his soul easily, while Discord had no showings of it. However, they kind of debunked their own reasoning by bringing up "Discordant Harmony". They use that as evidence that Discord's soul could be destroyed which, yeah, that's correct. But, in the same episode, due to the chaos being created around him by Fluttershy (very mild chaos, mind you), his body and soul started returning from near nothingness in a matter of seconds. This disproves their point, since it shows Discord's soul does regenerate, it's just dependent on the chaos around him, which obviously the fight would have in droves and so logically his regeneration would be greater.

For people saying bill won the battle but discord won the war you're wrong, bill won it's that simple, discord at most prolonged bills takeover. Discord won the morals. And for those saying discord will comeback aswell. Thats only been shown when his body has been destroyed, not his spirit. As they say thenselves destroying discords spirit will kill him, and even if he does come back they'd eventually fight again except bill wouldnt fall for the same trick. Stop riding discord, yes what discord did was honorable but he still lost accept that fact and move on
I believe people are saying Discord will return due to the fact that in the cannon of mlp, Discord only has two known weakness, that being the elements of harmony,which only those who are connected to them can use, and he himself by not being chaotic. Bill doesn't have the power to kill Discord, nor dose Discord have the power to kill Bill. The reality of this battle is that neither really "won" but rather they simply delayed the inevitable and both will return (perhaps not in another fight but you know what i mean)

I agree, it's such a trite response. Bill won the Death Battle, but Discord lost with honor and oddly enough brought order back to Ponyville and his friends.
It would be better to say Bill Cipher won, under Discord's condition, stuck in the Nightmare Realm.

@@BillCiphersArtist The fight between bill and discord is a fight to a death but they still have goal, bill goal is to unleash his weirdmageddon, counquer equestria while discord goal is to save his friends, liberate equestria and undo weirdmageddon so while bill won death battle itself, discord completely won in every way possible despite losing the actual battle.
