I've been dieing to hear one of those 5k's in action. That uke sounds amazing. I love all those banjo rolls you're playing, and all the cascading on your other videos. You have inspired me to learn some tune using the cascading technique.
Sooo happy I found this! I got a soprano ukulele for Christmas and a banjo for my birthday, so I'm learning both instruments at once. I aspire to be able to play this song one day. : )
I love it!!!! I just discovered your music after watching Sanford and Son's "Blind Mellow Jelly" episode, and my son did a search on "Shake That Thing" and... I've gotta say, I'm now a fan!!!
The key is the right hand. The right hand rolls I use are pretty close to the way 5-string banjoist pick it. My left hand is different, but that's easier to see from the video. 5-string banjo tablature is easy to find by googling "foggy mountain banjo tablature". Also,Earl Scruggs has a good book called "Earl Scruggs and the 5-String Banjo" out with explanations and tablature.
I use standard gcea uke tuning, but if you tune the first string down one note to "g", you can play from 5-string banjo tablature, albeit in the wrong key and missing the low 4th banjo string
This guy seemed like a master, then I heard the up the neck part, it confirmed he’s a god
