@@MRGTOLS1 me and my buddy keep saying how we wish they would go back to having jobbers. Split the roster up, have two separate shows and give guys chunks of time off to stay healthy and fresh. Meanwhile you have the stars on program getting built up squashing job guys and the only time they really face other stars is in the actual main events and ppvs. Sadly WWE and most modern wrestling has become a formula where they dont even need stars, just plug and play with any given body available. No long term build ups needed or any coherent story arcs for that matter. Its more a rarity now these days you have an arc that stays coherent.
@@loggerbomb I’ve been saying the same thing! There was nothing like when they introduced a new wrestler against a jobber and they absolutely wash them! Enhancement talent never got the respect they should, some of the bumps they’d take were devastating.
Even though it's actually something of a tragic thing, I can't help but smile whenever I think of Yoko and Vader plotting a Mission Impossible style scheme to score some fried chicken.

Yokozuna clearly had depression where other wrestlers turned to pain killers or infidelity he turned to food for comfort. That was truly a sad moment. In the end there's only so much [his uncle] you can give and if the person doesn't want help there's nothing you can ultimately do -- it's his life.
@@Blackfeet So true. Addiction is a bitch and it can manifest in many different ways. Food addiction has to be one of the cruelest ways because if you're a pill head (like I once was), you can just stop taking pills, but food, you can't avoid that.

Jim admits to not keeping up with both AEW and WWE(Not to mention that he skips certain wrestlers in the first place), leaving him out of context on a lot of stuff. Jim the historian is great. Jim the modern critic isn't worth giving attention to.

"Make a Difference" Yoko paying Rikishi's light bills
Rikishi blows things up bigger than they were. "I couldn't pay my heating bill." He was a WWE wrestler. Where was the money going? Pretty sketchy.
@@81rbutler Firstly, he was a WWF wrestler, there were no guaranteed contracts prior to Hall and Nash nWo times and even well after with Vince. When Yoko was a headliner, Jr. Fatu went through a bunch of crap gimmicks, a step above a jobber. Business was also down and the top guys made max $400K, Razor always pushed Bret to demand money. Those were top guys, imagine being a low-midcarder with road expenses like motels/gas/car rentals. Yeah, I doubt Kish was kayfabing tears to push a WWE network doc.

I haven’t seen the documentary, but I’’ve heard of the story of Yoko helping out Rikishi back with his bills on Livewire in 2000. That story has remained fresh with me.
That was in 2000? That's odd cause wasn't Rikishi in the midcard with 2 Cool or feuding with Austin then? He had to be making good money at that point

@@joere-uploader5766 Yeah Rikishi mentioned in the Doco it was when Yoko got his monster push in 92/93 when Kish was in the head shrinkers. Yoko main evented 2 Wrestlemanias so he would have been paid very well especially the one with Hogan.
I felt so bad when Sika said he felt he had let his brother down by not looking out for his son, Rodney(Yoko). He did his best. I love watching the Anaoi’ family.

I think the fact Yoko died from an eating disorder instead of heavy drug abuse made the WWE far more willing to just tell the truth about his life.
Especially since it's well documented that they kept trying to help him with it and the fact almost nobody would blame the WWE for Yoko's addiction.
Someone made a point that while WWE didn't actually cause Yoko's food addiction. It certainly didn't curb it. Possible part of the reason it got so bad was this idea that the company made him a major star and promoted him as an attraction specifically because he was so heavy. And maybe in his mind, if Yokozuna got physically smaller, he wouldn't be Yokozuna anymore.
@@XombieLejon66 they did try to curb his eating. They sent him home to go to a weight loss clinic & it didn't help at all. But sure, blame WWE for him not losing weight cuz personal accountability doesn't exist anymore.

Every time WWE Network does documentaries like these, their production team knocks it out of the park. Especially the editing (the unsung heroes of all movies and television). They could make a documentary about a cat that fell off the couch onto a pillow and make me cry.

The current WWE shows aren’t the best. But they are doing such a great job on the network with their documentaries.

@Eric John Schwab, & that's the sad state of affairs for Vince's company, is that the quality of the booking & current direction of the talent is piss poor whereas the documentaries are great.
WWE cares more ~ the pasThan the present and the future and they rub their audiences faces in iToo. That's why Seth Rollins told Braun Strowman in the Men's 2021 Royal Rumble match that Edge & Christian aren'The future.

There's a part really early on that made me laugh out loud, when Rikishi is talking about Yoko and his dad he mentions his dad would whoop his ass if he got out of line "but in a good way, a Samoan way"
If you've had any experience with Islander families you'll know how terrifying that idea is
Yokozuna may be the most underrated WWE Champion of all time. Main evented two Wrestlemanias in a row, and he beat Hogan in the early 90s. First wrestler to win the Royal Rumble with the Wrestlemania stipulation.
Man....Yoko was unstoppable to me as a kid. I damn near cried when Bret beat him...it was like a dream. It felt like he never lost
That was the Royal Rumble where Savage tried to pin him, for some strange reason.
I wish he wouldn’t have waited until 1996 to start talking, and they would have done more with his crew he had with Taker. Yoko and Owen Hart are one of my favorite tag teams ever!

I feel like whenever Jim is too positive Brian has to be the negative one, even if he’s grasping at straws. He had no real reason to dislike Bruce’s involvement in the doc & he brought up historical inaccuracies but had no specific example to point to

I want to check this documentary out now, it sounds excellent. I remember Yoko's emergence in the wwf in 1992/93, he was an awesome spectacle.
I still remember how much in awe I was even as a kid at Yoko's athleticism at his size. Even my older brother, who always made fun of my love for wrestling was seriously impressed by Yoko's superkick. Learning what a loss he meant to so many of his fellow wrestlers lafter he died made it even harder that he was gone. Hearing Taker talk about Yoko nearly breaks my heart every damn time.

Would have loved to have seen Yoko get his weight manageable to see him live longer of course and also wrestle through the Attitude era and beyond.

I had weight loss surgery in December 2020. Sleeve gastrectomy is the name of the procedure. It's very touch and go for the first 3-4 weeks after surgery while you're healing and your new stomach doesn't fully heal for about 90 days because the staples are permanent and have to be healed over. But with that said, I believe that anyone who has that surgery who is still young enough to be physically active would likely be cleared to take bumps after around 4-6 months tops.

You can see that Jim Cornette is impartial to Bruce Prichard. Bruce Prichard is pretty much Vince Russo with more wrestling background lol.
Hogan being involved in WM 9 totally killed both Bret and Yoko’s momentum and if you notice the family,other than Roman, didnt speak on that segment. There was NOOO reason for that other than for Hulk to beat one last monster on his way out. Yoko was scary af at the Rumble and as a huuuge Bret Hart fan I heart sunk at WM 9 with the salt in the eyes. I remember turning that ppv off so confused.
Yoko should have beat Bret and they should have built the rest of the year on those two feuding. Instead we got egomaniac Hogan, who didn't want to put anyone over, went to Japan, mocked the title while he was there, and then lost to Yoko in the same kind of bullshit finish that resulted in him winning it in the first place.
Agree, but ending a WrestleMania with a heel cheating to win kind of puts a downer on the event. You think Vince was going to send people home unhappy in Las Vegas? Hogan got a huge pop, fans went home happy. The fact that Yoko got over on Hogan just a few weeks later elevated him even more.
For as much as Corney, Russo, and Pritchard go round and round with each other, seems like they're All on the same page in regards to Yoko. Everyone loved him..

Yokozuna was one of the most fearsome wrestlers I can remember from my childhood. The guy was a phenomenal performer. The Bonzai Drop is the ultimate finisher. Anyone ever kick out???
Yoko even said he wanted to have the record of heaviest wrestler of alltime and said he was going for 900 lbs but he actually lost 200 lbs of fluids when he died and weighed at 580.

Jim says that Yoko must have had something else going on with him because of the rapid weight gain. I think the real truth was that he was just a food addict and his genetics are prone to severe obesity. All Polynesians get very fat with age, this is because they're evolved to eat mostly very lean fish and not fried chicken. Tonga is the most obese nation in the world and it's all to do with them eating high fat lamb shanks. The Sleep Apnea thing would be brought on by the obesity.
Nauru leading the world with 61% obesity. Tonga is the 7th obese country. But they really are like the same thing.

I doesn't shock me in the least that Rodney got to be 800 bills. If you look at some of his very last indy show footage here on TH-cam. You can CLEARLY see he's that large. In my opinion i feel he had a food addiction and also fell into a depression. And being bi-polar myself i know what food and being depressed can do to oneself. However, that does NOT take away his in ring ability. As in my opinion for a heavy wrestler compared to other talents with the exception of John Tenta. He was THE BEST big man to ever grace a squared circle. The things he could do at he size were mind boggling. More importantly he was a GREAT MAN. He cared deeply for his family, friends, and people in general. Especially, those who were down on their luck or had other misfortunes in their lives. He lived an honest life giving back to those in need. And that's what makes him extra special to me.

Back to the MSNBC commentator. Nicole Wallace is an establishment conservative type who worked for George W. Bush and John McCain. How is she that exceptional compared to Bolton or any other commentators. Again, all these media companies have this revolving door of commentators from the government who’ve in and out of that job advocate for all kinds of fucked up policies. That’s not a way Fox News isn’t as bad as MSNBC.
I hate MSNBC and CNN. But for different reason than I hate Fox. But there are specifically ways each are bad and yet Jim is still right about how Fox is bad.
I regret wading into this because I feel this is just a “No, Fox isn’t bad. CNN and MSNBC are!” type discussion. I have no interest in defending them. Again there’s all bad but in different ways and yet there are ways each of them are particularly bad by my measure and I’ll leave it at that.

Yoko losing so much weight, at such a fast rate could have been dangerous as well. He likely would have needed a few years off to recondition his body and heart. There are stories of people losing half of their body weight that their heart rate goes out of wack from being used to being overworked. It’s possible Ronnie could have been out from 96-2000 or 2001. That could have been the invasion angle, or Rikishi era starting out (which could have worked out). Imagine the tag team division with Too Cool (minus Rikishi), Edge and Christian, Hardy’s, Dudleys, Rikishi and Yoko, APA, and all of the other great teams that came in. I say tag team for Yoko, so he would have time to get into ring shape again.
If yoko rikishi and meng got together in 2001 they would of been a great heel trio

Yoko, to me, is tied with Vader or slightly ahead as the best big man "worker" IMHO. Its them & Bigelow.
I always enjoyed Yokozuna's work. I appreciate what he offered to my childhood/teen years.

I just wish Yoke got his full career in. He was only 33 when he passed on, more life ahead of him, more family time. More pro wrestling to give to the world.
Just imagine, he was a 2x WWF World Champ before 30, that's AMAZING. And pro wrestlers hit their best years later on in their 30-40's. If only he won his battle. There were prime Yoko years ahead of him.
Wrestling 's greatest Era Yoko was awesome those first 3 or 4yrs were amazing perfect way to build a monster or final boss rip Yokozuna
Hakuho, long time current Yokozuna in the Sumo Kyokai, weighs around 350. If Yoko was able to get down to that weight, he could have kept the Yokozuna gimmick.
1993 brought us some some crazy post-Hogan era heels in the likes of Yokozuna, Giant Gonzalez & Ludvig Borga!
