Great decision for moving away from London / UK and seeking for a life style you and your family wanna live in! Best of luck on your new chapter👍 I have a similar thought on living in Macau atm hahah, the architectural industry sucks here, very limited to no opportunities within the region, designers aren’t being treated or paid fairly either.
Hello Daniel. Welcome to Vancouver (my hometown). I've been following you for a couple years for your minimalist space design. I look forward to new content as you design your living space.
I’m going to miss you visiting small London properties, and showcasing great architecture. Not sure if the Canadian equivalent will hit the same for someone who lives in the UK. Best of luck and look forward to seeing what’s to come👍🏻
My bf and I have been arguing over this decision for years. It came down to me not wanting to go from +6 weeks of annual leave in UK to only 2 weeks in Canada.
@@mistertee5000 15 days(plus sick/flex days) is more the norm, going up to 20 after long service. A very tiny number of employers offer 20 days off the bat and there’s still a lot that actually only offer 10 days.
I moved from the UK 47 years ago (pre-Thatcher, it was a time of rotating power brownouts, of petrol coupons, of miners and car-workers striking) - one of the best moves I made. I had been working for an architect, but my Canadian cousin convinced me to try Edmonton, Alberta: - it was booming (still is, I believe), and my skill was a big plus in my application. Yes, I had left beautiful Devon - and wondered why I'd gone to Edmonton. BUT - I learned to skate any evening, to ski at weekends, to buy a van and camperise it to go to the lakes every weekend to bbq stakes, to have a swim-pool in the top of the building, to walk 6 blocks to work, and to seeing $1000s in the bank. Did 2 weeks annual leave matter to me then? Not when I could play any time I wanted. After what I called 'doing time' in Edmonton, I moved to Vancouver... if Daniel's photos have moved you, try to get over here. Vancouver is a very vital city, always on the move. Climate isn't too far removed from that of Britain - but it can get lots of 'liquid sunshine' some years. But, to be a little different, try the Comox Valley - Courtenay is a small city pop. 22,000 - that has most anything you could want: it has most of the big shops, lots of smaller stores. You can sail, kayak or swim in the morning, ski in the evening, fish for salmon almost any time, hike the glacier, camp in the forests, go fossil-hunting, walk by the estuary and watch seals, pick oysters off the beach, buy eggs from one farmer or buy buffalo meat from another. Plus there's twice the house for Vancouver's prices, and gasoline price approx is half that of UK. There's workers being wanted almost everywhere.
FMLA gives you 12 weeks (sick, vacation, then unpaid total 🟰 12 weeks). As an employee at a medical center, I had 5 weeks vacation, 12 sick days, 8 paid holidays per year.
What a wonderful opportunity for you and your family. I love watching everything you create, as I get closer to retirement and possibly downsizing my home this is truly interesting. I enjoy watchng a "real" journey including all the bumps in the road.

Most of my friends have sold their houses and moved to different parts of the world for the best for sure. UK hasn't been really the place we could call home nowadays, with the increasing costs of smaller stuffs, rent and such and not to mention that our working hours are worse in certain fields without getting paid sufficiently. My family and i might do the same soon too.
@@laurapinevice9341 Might move to Malta or some other European country tbh. We're still debating where to settle and what are our chances and so on before taking the big leap.

I have wanted to move to Vancouver for so long…. But I don’t think it would be so easy for me as it was for you since your wife is originally from there.. it looks like such a cool city, and so much great architecture to see there.
That's exciting man, I'm happy for you. I own a publishing business and was able to move to rural Kentucky, USA for a lot less money than I would have staying in Oklahoma City. I built a 2400 sq ft studio for my business and also have 33 acres along with it.
I'm sad that London has become so out of reach, it's a fantastic city. I love your channel and the content, thanks for sharing this news and welcome to Canada.
Welcome to Canada! I've been subscribed for awhile; live in Calgary, Alberta - province next door to BC and have travelled to Vancouver for years on business. Love love love it, just can't afford it. Yes it is pricey but it has a great architectural and design vibe if you ever want to do a contract a local firm. They do work all around the world. Great LRT and lots of bike lanes. You will be very happy there, but it does rain a LOT.
I left Vancouver for London 8 years ago and find the U.K. so much more affordable! My career pays much better here and I was actually able to buy a house (impossible in Vancouver on a creative salary). Things like food and travel are much more affordable too. We did end up leaving London to live by the sea, as being from Canada I missed being close to nature and having close community, but I don’t think I could go back to Van at this point. Best of luck with your move, I think there are pros and cons to both places:)
looking forward to the new apartment videos! I've just installed the besta ikea storage system in white into my home office and I absolutely love it. I've had my eye on it since you showed them in your dining room. I thought about submitting my space for a makeover but I've been taking away a lot of notes from your redesigns. I love my space even more now. Thank you!!
Hi Daniel! My boyfriend and I recently moved in together and I've been watching your video religiously for ideas haha. Its so weird and I'm so surprised you are moving to our city! Very so welcome and good luck on everything! I'm also sooo surprised that Vancouver is considered "affordable" for you because it's still one of the most expensive places to live in the world. We looked at those high-rise apartments too and they were quite expensive for us. But then again, jobs right out of college don't pay alot i guess. Vancouver is heaven for asian food though!
It took me to sell my UK home, purchase a complete new one in another country, to move back to the UK 3 years later, to open my eyes and appreciate what I already had. We all have our own personal reasons for relocating to different countries other than the ones we grew up in (and that is great, for life experience) but we need to understand our reasons for doing so. I would always advise anyone to do so, but it's not a 'holiday,' so understand your reasons for doing so.
Well done you! We moved out of the UK after selling my business because I just couldn’t be there anymore. The UK was an easy option for us and is easier to live but it no longer felt like home, my birthplace, so had to go. We now live in Garrucha in Spain and my head is now straight. Feel for, happy and feeling the sun on my face makes me feel well.
Hello from Cyprus Daniel and family. Bravo on the decision you both made. Takes faith, strength and courage. I love your videos especially because you are down to earth and give a lot of useful advise. We moved to Cyprus from Dubai and in the last two years moved to a small village for the same reasons you moved to Vancouver. Downsizing while renting was not that challenging, finding a permanent home for everything we decided to keep in a semi furnished house without wardrobes, however still is. You’ve helped me. Thank you.

And take a walk along the seawall with the fam in Stanley Park. Cheers and thanks for the amazing content 👍

My wife is one of your viewers and she told me, hey! One of my favorite content creators just mentioned the documentary that you researched and produced ( Futuropolis ). Made my day. Thanks for creating good content, honored to have my documentary mentioned in your work ☺️
Great decision for moving away from London / UK and seeking for a life style you and your family wanna live in! Best of luck on your new chapter👍
I have a similar thought on living in Macau atm hahah, the architectural industry sucks here, very limited to no opportunities within the region, designers aren’t being treated or paid fairly either.
Wishing you and family the best in the next big adventure ... also trust your mum is doing well. Onward!
I'd like to hear more about your inventory and also keen for tutorials! Congratulations on the move! Sounds amazing!
Hello Daniel. Welcome to Vancouver (my hometown). I've been following you for a couple years for your minimalist space design. I look forward to new content as you design your living space.
Sabine, what part of germany you came from before moving to Vancouver ?
I’m going to miss you visiting small London properties, and showcasing great architecture. Not sure if the Canadian equivalent will hit the same for someone who lives in the UK. Best of luck and look forward to seeing what’s to come👍🏻
Congratulations guys!!! Sounds like you are super excited about the change, which I am definitely sure that will translate into an even better channel
My bf and I have been arguing over this decision for years. It came down to me not wanting to go from +6 weeks of annual leave in UK to only 2 weeks in Canada.
Most people I know here with professional jobs have at least 4 weeks plus 5 sick/flex days.
25 days ain't 6 weeks of hols though. i mean as a base.
Hey Daniel, I'd be keen to hear how TH-cam life/job is like for you. I have been doing my 5 year uni degree while doing a YT channel on the side. Though uni is my number one priority I always wonder what if XD. I am keen to hear whatever content you have to deliver, just do the content that makes you happy/ you enjoy doing and it will be encouraging and entertaining to hear :) (can't wait to see the new apartment)
Congratulations! Here's wishing you and your family all the very best in your new home. I'm looking forward to your new video content in Vancouver.
Where are you planning to move ?
@@laurapinevice9341 Might move to Malta or some other European country tbh. We're still debating where to settle and what are our chances and so on before taking the big leap.
I'm so excited for you guys! Me and my husband are moving to Vancouver as well by January 2023, so a more in depth video of the process would be super nice. Maybe sharing the notion template? ❤
Vancouver is insanely expensive... ))) never never go there
Thank you for sharing so openly. Very brave of you to confront these issues so honestly. Good of you to share.
Thanks for telling us your story. I’m currently renovating a tiny studio in Melbourne Australia in the sport/art precinct while about to build a shed loft house in the country to replace my house destroyed by a storm! Your channel provides so much inspiration. Looking forward to this next chapter for both of us!!!
Congratulations on your move! Sounds like it's a really good decision for your family. My husband and I live in downtown Vancouver (across from the main library) and if you need any help or assistance, we'd be delighted help out.
Welcome to Vancouver. Check out Gastown, Granville Island and the Indian Arm luncheon cruise up to Silver Falls.
as a fan of your channel and resident in Toronto. congrats on your move and welcome to Canada!!
welcome to the city! 🤍
The one and only Joe Lee! Thanks man!
Love Vancouver and Vancouver Island as well as the rest of BC. Good luck to you all, well done.
Studio apartments in even modest parts of London start at $1.5m and up. It's ludicrous. There often isn't even enough room to place a bed.
looking forward to the new apartment videos!
Welcome to Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦visit Kamloops where I recently moved , Kamloops is gorgeous and cheaper than Vancouver and only 3 hours from Vancouver
Welcome to Canada! You will love it here. Good luck with everything. Excited to know about your future endeavours.
Oh I'm from Vancouver. Hope to meet you one of these days!
Good luck with the new chapter! Moving house, city, country and/or continent is always an exciting adventure.
Thank you.
There's an older British couple that I follow that moved to Canada to just find out that they like the United States way better. Now they end up spending half of the year in the United States traveling through the warmers southern states that stay warm in the winter and they love it. They love the better whether they love the cheaper food the cheaper alcohol the cheaper everything.
Thanks to YT sweet algorithm I came across your channel and I have to say this is one of the most enjoyable and authentic channels out there! Thank you!!
Will miss having you guys on this side of the pond, but can't wait to see the newly designed flat when you move in!
Welcome to Vancouver. You will love it here.
Really dig your content Daniel, I'm super jealous, I love Vancouver lived there when I first moved away from my home country, enjoy it!
Happy For you! New chapter for the family 🙏🙏
Welcome to Vancouver! Hope you like this amazing city!
Well done Daniel. We left London for İstanbul in 2013 and have not regretted or missed London at all! Would love to see you in Istanbul
Congratulations! You will love it there! I wish you all the best! It sounds like a reasonable decision. And there is no city more beautiful than Vancouver!
Welcome to Vancouver! What a cool move to make. I know you’ll love it here. I’d offer recommendations on where to visit but your wife probably has that covered 👌
I got a huge smile when you zoomed out and mentioned Vancouver; the map of Vancouver hanging aside your desk now makes perfect sense!
Great city to live in and it'll feel cheap compared to London. If you haven't already visited, I suspect you'll love Dr. Sun Yat-Sen garden and pay the admission fee for the garden (not just the free park). And take a walk along the seawall with the fam in Stanley Park. Cheers and thanks for the amazing content 👍
Best of luck in your new adventure, I for one will still be watching your tube videos. 🙌🏼
Daniel, I love your videos and I live in Vancouver! Welcome to this great city.
Good luck with the new apartment and the new city! Your skills, creativity, and knowledge will work anywhere.
I moved from The Netherlands to Australia, best decision I made. Still love the Netherlands and miss it at times. But just had a whole new and different set of opportunities in Australia, which I would not have had in the Netherlands. Exciting times ahead for you and the channel.
Hi Raymond, greetings from here in Sydney!
@@chrissomerville2625 And greetings back from the Gold Coast (left Sydney 10 years ago)
Congrats on the move and welcome to Canada! Vancouver and the surrounding area is just gorgeous. Emjoy!
I’m really happy for you and your family on this new chapter of your life. I’ll miss the original flat from where you started as that’s how I found you.
Congrats on the move, Daniel! Hello from Brooklyn where space is also small and expensive which is why I love watching your channel. I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Totally relate to the need to find a new country when things are not working out. We are Americans in our 70s living currently in Germany. We will retire in Uruguay in another year or so. Love the expat life and love your channel and ideas. Keep up the good work.
LOVE ❤️ watching your content. Find all the best angles in your new space while it is empty so we can see how you transform your own space.
First and foremost, congratulations on your bold and and exciting move! I actually cried because I was so happy to hear that you and your family have moved into a better living situation! As a beginner TH-camr, I would like to see information about your earnings, if you don't mind. I am also looking forward to seeing your new space and lifestyle! As always, thank you for producing outstanding content!
Beautiful family! Very happy for u guys
congrats and can't wait to see what unfolds in this new chapter . Vancouver is awesome
❤that you are in 🇨🇦!!! i guess everything is relative. We in Canada consider Vancouver/Toronto the most expensive cities to live in Canada, the price of a condo can be the same for a large house in some amazing cities like Calgary. Either way welcome to 🇨🇦 we are so happy to have you!!!
Daniel, I can see your excitement about this new place. I'm happy for you man. Respect for making a decision that works out better for you!
Welcome to Canada! Glad to have you and I hope you enjoy our open spaces!!!
What a surprise! Good luck on your new life in Vancouver!
The farewell to the apartment in London is really a bittersweet thing but I’m looking forward to see the videos of your new home and studio.
As a minimalist, I’m also interested in your Notion list of your belongings made for moving.
What a nice and honest video this is, very much appreciated!
Have a lovely time in Canada, Daniel! Bless you, your daughter and your missus, hope you enjoy yourself in Vancouver
Congratulations! I hear Vancouver is a great place to live. It would definitely be on my shortlist. I would definitely like to hear about your inventory project prior to moving. We have taken over my parents' old home and are now embarking on simplification, starting with a triage (keep, sell, give-away/junk). So, any time you are ready Daniel 😉
Congratulation Daniel welcome to Canada, I am in the other side of the country Toronto. Cheers to you and your beautiful family, all the best.
I cannot wait to see the future growth of you, your family, and this channel. Congratulations on taking the plunge!
WOW! Congrats! You know we're now gonna want a house/flat tour!
Moving out of the UK is a good move right now, especially for the little 'un. Trying to convince the family to emigrate as, yes, you get much more bang for your buck elewhere. Canada is gorgeous, you're in the the city but have that wonderful outdoor life, fresh air and stunning landscapes! Again, congrats for living the dream, and yes for how TH-camr's make the mullah - I thought you guys were rolling in it ;-)
So cool! I’m a recent subscriber and I live in Vancouver, so I think you’ve made a great choice and will love our beautiful city! Welcome!
Didn't know you guys moved to Vancouver! Great city, great environment surrounding it. Hope to see you guys out there when I visit sometime.
I have two older brothers who left London for jobs, and they both are back with horror stories to tell. One went to New Zealand and the other to California. Now one is back in London as happy as can be, and the other now lives in Devon, moving abroad can be great but many people do have horror stories and do return home.
May i ask what their horror stories were? Worse then having to live in a dusty box room with a sink and no oven or fridge?
Welcome to Canada, sir! Loving your videos. Keep up the awesome work.
You flew over the pond! Oh man I hope you enjoy it! Would love to see yearly updates on how it’s all going
All the very best with the new chapter looking forward to seeing more
