I love seeing Primo get some more attention on this channel! I got one recently and absolutely love it. It seems simple, but the oval shape really is a game changer for me in terms of more usable space and easier 2-zone grilling. I'll have to check out some of your gift recommendations
Thanks for validating the best accessories that I love for Primo as well. I have had my large Primo since 2016 and just bought an XL one after about a year of research (and your videos) to decide on a second grill. After searching and considering others like BGE and KJ, I just couldn’t justify not getting another Primo. The oval shape is definitely a game changer if you make a lot of briskets and ribs.
Love the channel! Any advice for accessories for the Primo Round? Some places say that all Green Egg Large accessories work on the Primo round, but I’m skeptical.
Thanks so much, i don't have one nearby to film with.... i wrote them a while back and they asked if montreal is close (its about 6hrs) and thats too far round trip to record something for the Komodo Kamado folks. Hopefully it will be easier in the future to track down one i can borrow for a while to film with
It has vent settings for 250, 270, 350 and 400 along with a double indirect setup and smoke wood tips. I didn’t go into rotisserie as I like coals banked to the back
I am looking at moving from my Weber to a ceramic grill mainly to continue to cook in the winter environment in the north west. I have narrowed my choice down to the primo xl or the Kamado Joe. My question to you is which one do you think would be a better choice.
they each have their advantages and some disadvantages. The Primo rack system and clearance above the stones is more limited which makes some things more difficult than in an egg or a joe. the temp control is also more difficult because of the three holes vs. 2 in the kj and one on the egg... every half inch is multiplied when you have more exhaust vents ant that makes the primo more difficult to adjust temps than the others as the difference between 250 and 270 is almost millimetre precise. but, the primo is a small family business, made in the US and the longer size (50 sq in less than big joe/xl eggs) is smaller than other big kamados but the length has some advantages for long cuts like brisket. the raised racks are nice but poorly designed in my opinion as they take up so much grid space you can no longer fit 3 racks of ribs without stacking them on top of one another like i showed in my 6 racks of ribs cook. Stock for stock the food tastes the same... i think living with the KJ is easier in everyday use
@@SmokingDadBBQ thanks for replying. Had narrowed it down to made in America, vs options and price.i did consider the space between the cooking rack and stone and was concerned about overcoming a brisket bottom like I saw in the ksj vs bge cook. Thanks again
No. Only long cooks show a benefit. Anything faster than ribs it doesn’t make sense. Only exception is occasionally I like a spatchcock chicken at higher temps. If the feed stone could get wet and I wasn’t worried about grease on it I would use it more often
Thanks for the video. I am leaning toward the primo over the kamado joe, so this is helpful. The big question I have is which works best for pizza, and does the primo pizza accessory work well.
i haven't tried the primo oven accessory but i bought the stone. it does great... my bias here is having tried the KJ DoJoe vs the stone i found the results near identical so have a hard time justifying the $300 for a pizza oven accessory that doesn't materially improve the pizza and is tricky to store
@@SmokingDadBBQ Would you still use the pizza oven for making things like brisket or pulled pork or are the advantages of that not as strong in a Primo?
@ I haven’t tested it to confirm. In theory it should provide the same benefits as a smoking device but I haven’t seen if the grids can be placed above the stones
Hi, I visited the website and added the Primo e-book to my cart, but I can’t find where to apply the coupon code mentioned in the description. Could you help?
it should prompt you at the checkout phase after returning from PayPal for example... if it doesn't work email me and i will refund you the sale price but i see some coming through so i think its working ok
Unfortunately, the XXL has virtually none of those, as of this post. It being a product released within the last few months, I hope they’ll remedy that problem, in the near future. Apart from that, if I didn’t already have a Kamado Joe, I’d be all in on the Primo. It just seems like a more premium product.
Yes while the 2xl size is appreciated, it is lagging way behind on the promise to follow up quickly with the full assortment of accessories ... I do wish when a product launches that more of the complete ecosystem was ready to go with the naked grill itself
Agreed… I am “all in” on the XL… solely because of James’ informative videos and the full spectrum of accessories…. If the XXL had the same, I would be all in on it…. IMHO, poor launch…. backasswards….
its no joke.... if you are someone who makes your own rubs 100% worth it.... otherwise a coffee bur mill like yaro kanto or electric drill can provide some of the speed benefits if you don't mind the grind limitations

What size FredStone are you using for the double indirect setup?
Thanks!
This is the best kamado/pitmaster/BBQ channel on TH-cam, hands down. After the Primo can you please consider doing a series on the Komodo Kamado?

Will your guide give me the set up for ribs, rotisserie and other meats?

Do you have any thoughts on the new primo XXL - 500, I would like to buy one
Thanks
I would wait until the promise of more accessories comes true as at this stage that would be a criticism

@SmokingDadBBQ Thanks, very good point. Quick question, do these pizza ovens make it easier to do? Especially if you are making multiple pizzas?
