    Had a 2010 based on a E-450 and did a d2s projector retrofit from morimoto with hid bulbs and the output was amazing. And later added a 40inch light bar from Baja designs for more output for long country commutes when no other traffic was present.

    Great video. Some of us prefer driving at night. You generally have less traffic, fewer road construction delays, and winds usually die down at night. Visibility is an issue for us so good headlight are important. Xenon headlights are the brightest but they have 3 problems with them. 1. they are blue light that often is blinding for oncoming traffic. 2. They burn out faster and are not shockproof. Burns out 5x faster than LED. 3. They are not energy efficient, burn hot, and are harder to install. This makes the LED headlights the number 1 choice of us "Night-drivers".

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We had some of the same issues with the HIDs we put in our car (harder to install and burned out fast) and will be upgrading our car to LEDs soon. Stay turned for a update. :)

    We haven't driven much at night. Not sure how our lights do. LOL I keep putting off the inside and really want to get that done. A few of our bathroom vanity bulbs are exposed, no cover, and I don't like the look of the LED. I run into the same thing here at the house with the flame tipped bulbs in the chandeliers. Thanks for the information. Adding the night check to our To Do list!

      +DWDinAtlanta You might like the look of M4's Elite Series bulbs for your vanity. They're like little high-tech works of art, like nothing else we've seen. Very bright, but they make smaller ones if you want a little less light, and there are a couple of colors available, too.

The same kind you have in the video. The flashes and turn signals did not work. I changed to the LED flasher as recommended and still nothing. My side markers went off also. When I turned the RV on both the lest and right was lite.What do you think?

    Great video. Did you take down your video illustrating the HID upgrade to your toad car's headlamps? I wanted to compare the installations. Has LED technology usurped HID to the point HID isn't really an option anymore?

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +micglobal We did indeed remove the HID video, as we had two ballast failures, and the installation was much more involved than the LEDs. The light output is similar, but with the reliability and installation issues we had, and the great experience we've had with the RV's new headlights, we're switching the toad to LEDs, too. We'll have an update about that coming up pretty soon.

      Hi Kevin. The bulbs in our headlights (NOT the high-beams... we didn't have room behind our high beams to replace the bulbs with LEDs) were #9006... which means this is the current (upgraded) replacement from M4: m4products.com/headlights-9006-v6s-headlight-kit-with-9006-hb4-bases/?aff=4 We'd suggest that it's a good idea to just get your eyes on your current bulbs (pulling the generator out makes it pretty easy on our coaches) to be sure they're the same... JUST in case!

    Are they street legal? I looked at upgrading my headlights last year and found that the replacement bulbs were not DOT certified and I could be held responible for any accidents.

    • @M4LEDcom
      @M4LEDcom 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not a DOT certified light, similar to HID modules. Your light fixture is DOT certified and the light control is very similar. Please use at your discretion.

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LED headlights are indeed not DOT approved. They do still use your DOT approved fixture, so light output is greater but similar in pattern, since it's the fixture that plays the biggest role the distribution of light. The DOT regulations aren't keeping pace with technology, as the specs are written in watts, which applies to incandescent bulbs, and is mostly meaningless for LEDs, since the watt ratings are so small in comparison. As our regular viewers are aware, we're very particular about what gear we use. You'll notice heavy winter coats being worn during the shoot, and we're releasing the video at the end of May. That's because we've been testing these at length for over 4 months for their practical application and use. When we said we have not been flashed by any driver who thought we were blinding them with high beams, or with too-bright/glaring headlights, we literally mean that we have not been flashed one single time. We've even driven our own RV and car toward each other to see how the oncoming lights appear compared to other vehicles, and followed the car with the RV to see how the lights appeared in the rear view mirrors. Again, we were satisfied than in real-world use, there were no issues with glare. We were not willing to release the video until we were totally satisfied and confident that our increased ability to see was not coming at the expense of our fellow drivers who share the road with us. We can't guarantee that all combinations of LED headlights and fixtures will be the same as ours, but we're confident that this LED design has done an admirable job of replicating the light pattern of our original bulbs. If anyone is concerned about the legality in any particular jurisdiction, they should contact their local authority regarding use.

    I have a 2005 Tiffin Allegro 32' motorhome and these bulbs look incredible. Getting to the back of the headlamp appears to be very difficult for me. (Note: even though I'm a 64 year old widow, I replaced the headlamps & tail lights on the 2003 Jeep I tow with this motorhome - so I'm no afraid to take this on!). Can you offer any suggestions that would make it easier for me to #1 - access the back of the headlamps and #2 - find the number on the existing bulb. Would it be ok to use my floor jack to lift the front end for easier access? Or, should I just take it to a shop and pay the big bucks? The head lights I use now are so dim, I drive at night with my high beams and no one even flashes me. Thanks for your help. Peety

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Peety! We love your attitude!! We would suggest that getting under the RV while it's up on a floor jack can be dangerous and we don't recommend that. Access to the headlights is different for every RV, and we don't have experience with your rig. We'd suggest that posting a question about gaining access to the headlights would be great to post on a Tiffin Owner's forum, such as on iRV2 (irv2.com/forums). It's free to join and post, and people are eager to help. Someone there may also know your headlight number, but we'd suggest that you should check your bulbs yourself for a few reasons: 1) To be 100% sure you have the correct number, 2) To confirm you can access and remove them, and maybe most important, 3) To confirm that there's space behind the bulbs for the larger LED bulbs, which have heat sinks on the back, requiring clearance behind the bulb socket. We had a couple of friends who wanted to put LED headlights into their Winnebago, but there was virtually no clearance behind the current bulbs, so no way the LEDs would possibly fit. Hope this helps a bit!

    I don't comment often on youtube but have to here. I like the idea of better lighting but these LED lights are not the right replacement for those types of lights. I know what M4 may say, but the truth is these LED conversion and all of the HID conversions on the market are made for projection lens only.
    The US DOT, which set the standards for lighting has been discouraging the use of these conversion kits because of both the light scatter and the glare they create. In a lens in the video, the reflector and lens design are made for a specific type of source and even M4 has said "This is not a DOT compliant tested light, similar to HID modules. Your light fixture is DOT certified and the light control is very similar to your original halogen bulb. Please use at your discretion." which is all the more reason why people should look into a complete lamp unit conversion and not a plug and play one.
    The glare and light scatter may not effect everyone, the cold light with the blue tint to it may also not bother many but there are a few, especially those with sight problems who can be blinded by this lighting, and may cause an accident.
    To add to this, the US DOT does not test lights, they work on the honor system where they depend on the manufacturer to "certify" that the lights meet their standards. SO for the past 10 years or so a flood of conversion kits have hit the market, and the US DOT and some states may have been going after the sellers of these kits.

    I just wish LEDs were as bright as HID.

      +Custom Southern Arms We have HIDs in our car and LEDs in our RV, and we think they are virtually identical in brightness... with the LEDs being whiter, so they seem even brighter. We had a ballast fail on the HIDs and are getting ready to switch to LEDs in the car, too. 😊

      RVgeeks LEDs do have their benefits. Mainly the life of the product and the low current draw. I've seen side by side comparisons of the two for years. I figure if I wait another year or two, they'll improve and be brighter, then I'll switch over.

    Great, and you blind the rest of us. Thanks!

      We have never once been flashed by another driver thinking we had our high beams on. Never. We adjusted these extremely carefully, and don’t blind anyone.
