    I've used Blue Beacon many times, thing to remember is they are all independent franchise so the quality is related to that. I only use ones located at the larger and busier truck stops as they have more skin in the game as far as quality goes. Word of mouth in the trucking biz can sink a business very quickly. Thanks for the vid and happy travels.....

    OK, I'm sold. And to think I avoided big rig washes because someone once told me it would destroy the finish on my coach. Maybe they meant the ones with automatic bruses. I'm like you in how I keep my rig shiny and new. I have a 2001 Winnebago Chieftain and by waxing her (Winnie Boo Boo) at least once a year, giving her a bath often and keeping her stored under cover her entire life, I would never subject her to a harsh auto wash. But after hearing this from you and knowing you care for your rig as well as I do, I'm going to give it a go. Great price for all the time savings. Thanks for sharing. Great video.

    Pulling our Redwood out of storage where we cannot wash, been there since November last year we were under cover but the rv is dirty, Thankfully the rv park will allow washing but on a small scale using as little water as possible and leaving their space clean. Your rig is beautiful. This will be our 1st week as full-timers your videos have given us so much info pretty sure I will e going back to review. Thank You

    I also use Blue Beacon for my 43' Road Warrior fifth wheel and F350 DRW tow vehicle. They do a great job and combined I paid about $45 dollars and I gave a $10 tip. My first trip there was just with the Dually and I wasn't sure if they would accept it but they did. If I remember correctly, that cost me $25 or so, including a RainX rinse. I hate not being able to take my Dually through a regular car wash but I love my truck even more.

      It is probably best to stay on top of things. An RV seems to really be a small city that needs constant attention. Things can be caught early and handled with only the big stuff going to pro service centers. So many nightmare videos on rv service but I notice they have page after page of items and get upset when not done right. It's easier to hound service for one big item than pages of items easily done by the owner. But no doubt having a newmar to begin with helps too.

    You guys are great. ! Thanks for the wealth of information. New to RV’ing with my 2003 Dutch Star 3803 I truly learned how to drive from watching your videos. Never having driven a coach the seller quipped “are you sure you’ve never driven before?” Even my family thinking it funny that “I learned how to drive by watching RVGeeks” leaves me alone when I’m researching and watching all your videos. And with this video I checked and I just found out I have a location less than 30 miles from my house! Again a million thanks for all you do for the RV community

    I wish they had Blue Beacons in the North East, specifically New England. We would use them all the time. Alas, no love. At least not yet.
    One caveat regarding washing your RV at a truck stop washing service. Not all washing services are the same. The thing about Blue Beacon is that they use a mild detergent that is designed not to hurt the finish (paint job) of RV's. That's why they are the best to use. However, other trucker washing services can and do use a harsher detergent that is not recommended for RV's so you want to do your homework and don't bring your RV to any washing service that uses a harsher detergent.

    With the water restrictions being super strict, I have yet to stay in a campground where washing my rig was allowed. Little spot cleaning just isn't the same as a good washing. Thanks for introducing us to a great resource! I'll be searching for Blue Beacons wherever I travel. Thanks also for the link to your favorite tools for when I can DIY.

    The timing on seeing your video on this COULDN’T have been more IMPECCABLE!! Wife and I got out and did all our black vinyl with that cool Maguire’s Marine RV cleaner-protectorate this morning. As soon as we finished, she started talking about US washing the rig ourselves. Now it’s just a 20-foot Class B, but I didn’t want to do that! The wax seems doable ...
    But we both, I think, like the idea of paying $40 and letting Blue Beacon wash it! We’ll be 7 miles from one in Idaho here in about a week!

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL! We know how you feel, Jim. Our 43-footer seems like it gets bigger and bigger every year! 😉 Check with your local Blue Beacon to be sure they use soft brushes for RVs... not all locations are RV friendly.

    Before retiring I owned a fleet of trucks and would drive occasionally. I also have a class A. After each trip the vehicles could almost drive themselves to a Blue Beacon (my truck wash of choice). Its a regular thing because my time has value as does everyone else's.

    One caution about Blue Beacon or any "High Power pressure wash cleaning" for your RV. Water can get into outside stove vents, refrigerator vents, storage bays, Slide seals, as well as the generator area. Make sure you figure out a way of protecting these areas prior to the wash. Tape them off, block them with reflectixs material, etc. We had a generator damaged as high pressure water got into the circuit- board box. So although this method can get your RV clean just use extra caution.

      Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. They're all individually owned, and we've heard a lot of good things, too. So maybe another location might do a better job. We've been to several of them, including other companies besides Blue Beacon. While some were definitely better than others, we haven't yet had an experience we'd call "bad" yet.

  • @MovingForwardAdventures

    We will have to give Blue Beacon a try. We ussually do the cleaning ourselves with a wash and wax cleaner (since most places do not allow washes at the sites) but that take hrs and hrs lol. Thanks for the good review! Safe travels guys.

    My first try at a truck wash(Blue Beacon) wasn't positive. The RV was pressure washed with some brushing. Then after the unit was complete they turned on the overhead automatic washers and it cleaned the roof really well. While wet the unit looked great. I also had my car and bicycles washed too.($50)
    After we got home I noticed the windows and side had streaks all over the unit and half the back and my bikes weren't very clean.
    So...look over your unit before driving off.

    Another wonderful video. I started using Blue Beacon last year, and find that they're perfect for the "in-between" wax job cleaning. One item to note, if you still have a propane fridge... when they run the high-pressure hose outside of your fridge vent there is a VERY good chance that they'll get the inside wet enough to toss an alarm or fault on your fridge (assuming you're running propane while traveling down the road). Once it dries it will work just fine, but just wanted to toss that out there as I was scratching my head when it happened to me the first time. I couldn't figure out what had suddenly gone wrong with the fridge. HA!

  • @porthole2
    @porthole2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have been using them for over 5 years now., especially when coming home from the south as I pass one 28 miles from home. What they do in 20 minutes would take me several hours, and now after having both rotator cuffs repaired I use them even more.
    In the northeast they tend top be more expensive. My average wash for the truck and trailer has been about $63 with the RainX treatment. I don't know if the RainX really works that great, but I see a lot of trucks opt for it and my rig always looks good when I get back on the highway.
    The guys that do the work have a job I would not want, they are constantly getting sprayed in the booth. I usually will give a $20 tip to the "pit boss" in front of his crew (usually 8 total) and sometimes point put some areas like the cap or underneath the cap for extra attention.
    And also here in the northeast several offer chassis under carriage wash for salt and brine removal.

    • @porthole2
      @porthole2 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW, if you do an inspection and don't like something, they will take care of it. And one time one of the workers knocked a marker lens off. The 'boos' immediately came over and offered to have it replaced. Wasn't their fault, the lens in question was already cracked and barely hanging on.

    There's no comment about risks using a pressure sprayer (spraying upward) near the external appliance vents or at/on the edge of double pane sliding windows(?) We had issues with this when using a detailer :( Results were 2 fogged windows and need to dry-out the mechanicals behind the fridge panel. We have not used a truck/RV wash for this reason. Would you say the wash shop staff knew these risks and compensated? Thanks for another great video!

    My wife and I are brand new to our fifth wheel for the first time in our sixties ready to retire shortly. My question is we haven't washed our used rig yet. I'm curious to know how many bottles of Meguiars wax does it take for your whole rig your first time is it more than one bottle of your liquid Meguiars that you have listed? Do you have a video on washing your diesel engine? We have a 2003 Dutchstar w/Catapiller engine and the engine needs washing big time. After a week at the repair shop getting a turbo sensor and new muffler/catalytic converter combo replaced(dirt parking lot), it looks like it was entered in the Baha 500. Do you spray the engine down with an engine degreaser first or dish washing soap(like dawn) or something for pressure washers. Or do you just use plain water and only rinse it. Hi guys. That baby looks great. Just wondering what your thoughts are regarding using Zep Wet Look Floor Polish. Are you familiar with this product? Thx bg

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi BG. We've heard about people using Zep Floor Polish... but primarily on RVs that don't have a full paint job. So we've never used it... but our concern about anyone using it is the fact that the floor polish isn't designed for outdoor use, and could break down or yellow over time, making things worse, not better. We haven't read of people having that problem... but it's definitely something we'd suggest that you look into before doing. We'd hate to see you do it, only to find out a couple of years later that you wished you hadn't!

    • @takeitallin6882
      @takeitallin6882 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep those are my exact concerns. It's the back end of that decision that I've not heard any one describing. Typically with commercial floor Polish you have to chemically strip it off when it's time to reapply. I think I'll stick with the more traditional wax. Take care

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that's a good point, BG. Not sure how (or IF) the people who are using the ZEP products are properly removing them for re-application. Seems like it's one of those things you can do to make the finish look good today... but what about 5 years from now? We've always used automotive wax on the finish on our RV... and right now are using Meguiar's NTX 2.0 Tech wax (available on Amazon: amzn.to/2xx5WHr ) and LOVE it. Easy on. Easy off. And it lasts!

    • @RVgeeks
      @RVgeeks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for the words of caution. You do indeed need to be thoughtful about using a pressure washer on the engine and generator, but it can easily be done safely. If you've ever been to an engine shop (unfortunately, we had a serious oil leak high on the engine block a number of years ago), Cummins diesel mechanics routinely used far more powerful pressure washers than our little portable Karcher unit has. They do it all the time to thoroughly clean engines to find oil leaks, and to confirm after repairs that they were successful in fixing them. We also pressure wash our car's engine on a routine basis. Since the advent of electronic ignition and fuel injection, it's a breeze, with no worry about water penetration, as long as you don't go crazy and hold the wand an inch from things, or for long periods. Now the place to be very mindful of not aiming the water directly at electrical components (at least in our rig), is in the generator bay, since all up above it there are LOTS of connections. We simply aim the water downward onto the generator and don't linger for long periods in one spot, and don't get too aggressive with it by getting really close in (keep the nozzle back about a foot). We've never had a problem, even though we do this all the time. Thanks for reminding people that care does need to be taken though!
