Doesn't matter what plane you fly...if you are building time, try and learn Crew CRM practice call outs, use GPS planes as much as you can, fly IFR even if its not IFR, and learn 121 and 135 rest requirements.... and watch these interview question videos
I still get the feeling "flying by yourself in a 172" time is not as good as actual commercial missions with passengers and things like that, but maybe it's greater experience than being in the right seat just telling people what to do, or doing repetitive survey work or doing touch&gos all day long to drop people parachuting. But I think if one can manage to do a little bit of all these things, it would make him a better pilot.
Can you verify your comment about flight hours, I have my PPL and VFR and IFR rating and night IFR , total hours 30hrs . Are you telling me i can fly a cessna 172 for 2000 more hours and a regional airline would interview me?
Yes, as long as you meet all of the other minimum requirements such as the Multi commercial. Relevant flight time is important toward your getting hired and in successfully completing your training. I would suggest your flying as much in the instrument system as possible.

If I fly in a non instrument equipped little plane (experimental)? Thar still counts even VFR?
It sure does count towards your total flight time.
