Honestly- I hate that line. In the books he never asks her to marry him, not in those words and while of course they're going to have their creative liberties, it's always felt so awkward to me. Like he just said he didn't want to be friends and it just feels out of place. Jeremy Northam though, I agree a hundred percent😂
I think the best couple would be Anne Elton and Captain Wentworth from persuasion, they are best friends already, same age, fitting temperament and both adults. I feel like the relationship is very balanced, on equal terms and their love also grew over many years. But I definitley agree that Emma and Mr.Knightley make a very fitting, promising couple!
Only Jane Austen could inspire such delightful proposals! Oh, I do wonder sometimes how my life would be without Mr. Darcy, Mr. Knightley and so many other wonderful characters from Austen's lovely stories.
Yep, and not only Austen had written, but the actors and actresses made it so real to us too. But we need to have real life too, so don`t just dream with books and movies, but let`s life our lives too!
Love his facial expressions throughout the movie, especially when she's playing the piano and then when Elton sits between them and he keeps switching between amused and mock sincerity--and here of course. Also love the little detail that he's almost afraid to touch her face, so precious it is
I love his facial expressions too. His eyes 😍 His expressions in this scene remind me of Paul Rudd's in Clueless when him and Cher are sitting on the stairs and she tells him she cares for him.
I just watched this video AGAIN ... I love all adaptations of this book for different reasons, but this proposal is the best! Everything that needs to be said is said. This Knightly is fabulous, his facial expressions and delivery are superb. Just the right blend of longing, patience, honesty and awareness. I'll be swooning over this one forever!
The writing of this scene in this version is better than the 2009. I feel like that one is sooooo good, but they made this scene a little weird there. It's much better done here, agreed.
I cannot imagine my life without Austen's Mr. Darcy, Mr. Knightley! Ohh, its been so delightful to have known these characters and have read about them in depth and seen them potrayed by the most beautiful characters! Its so awesome, ahh and the courteousness while proposing, every time I watch one of thesw proposals, specially of Darcy's I just delve into it , swooning over it , its so magical the way the foundation of the words have been laid, its like it was written to sweep me off my feet everytime I read or hear them, and the chemistry and the lessons and everything is so aweinspiring! Austen really is the best
Always wanted to have a proposal like that, and I got it, the same words. And I am sure he never even heard of Emma hahaha at the end, he just changed his mind. Well, that`s life. Love Mr. Darcy and Mr. Knightley, they are just perfect
Claire Austin Because you don't love in return.....that's why you are lonely......most of the time is what woman's want a guy who is crazy in love with them.
No.Garay plays a hysterical female rather than funnily witty one and that unpleasant guy with receding hair cannot be a romantic hero to me. Though I love their Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, BBC totally failed in their choice of main characters for Emma. This version is much better, though Paltrow is so unnaturally skinny for the part.
I love this scene almost as much as when Rochester, (Timothy Dalton's)1983 asks Jane Eyre to marry him. Alas, darn it! The first time aroundd Rochester alreaady had a wife. Still bravo!
Emma is actually my least favorite Austen character lol, probably because she is always wanting attention and got annoying but I do love the actors in this version and this scene. I much preferred Anne in Persuasion, where Sally Hawkins played Anne. I’m a bit wistful that all these dreamy men and rhetorics are actually a figment of female authors’ imaginations. 😢
"Marry me. Marry me, my wonderful darling friend." simple yet so endearing. And Jeremy Northam is soooo dreamyy
Out of all the Austen couples I think Knightly and Emma had the best foundation for love, friendship.
I agree
I really like Catherine and Mr Tilney but yeah I see where you're coming from
I totally agree
maybe except for the fact that he saw her as an infant and then watched her as she was growing up...
Jeremy was the best Knightley! So gorgeous and charming! What an actor!
"I do not wish to call you my friend because...I hope to call you something infinitely more dear."
ok guys imma cry now. :")
I almost forgot to watch this today

And, of course, Captain Wentworth!
@@ghtsw11of course... 😍

I love the way he acts with his face! Those scenes you mentioned, I have watched them so many times, just for his expressions!
I love his facial expressions too. His eyes 😍 His expressions in this scene remind me of Paul Rudd's in Clueless when him and Cher are sitting on the stairs and she tells him she cares for him.
"maybe it is our imperfections which make us so perfect for one another" aaghhhh wow

Jeremy is such a Dish! And the best Knightley ever. I wish that was my life (sigh) .....
Marry me, my wonderful, darling friend. I bawl every time I hear that part.
This is the absolute best version of Emma! ❤️
did i mention we have a new drain installed
Jeremy Northham is the best Mr Knightly in Emma
AMEN! All these blonde Knightleys are awful!
Love Jeremy Northam or rather Mr. Knightley!!! Gorgeous and gallant, kind and true... what more can anyone ask for?
"My wonderful darling friend!" *sigh*
That is one of my favorite lines from this story.
I absolutely adore Jeremy Northam's Mr. Knightly.
These two have the best chemistry among all the Emmas and Knightleys. He is playful yet firm while she is stubborn yet sweet. I love it. ❤
the new movie proposal scene was hilarious but this one is just as good as well :,)
This one the dialogue is better, the situation is explained, but the new one feels more natural
That one is BLASPHEMY!
@@ajmosutra7667 like i said it's hilarious. it does the job
I think it is the best from the 4 adaptation's proposal
Why anyone would want a “hilarious” proposal is beyond me. But I guess brownie points for originality? 🤷🏻♀️
Maybe it is in our imperfections that we are perfect for one another. ... Marry me wonderful, darling friend.
"Maybe its our imperfections which make us so perfect for one another!" :)

I loved the young gwyneth paltrow. She was so cute.
Always wanted to have a proposal like that, and I got it, the same words. And I am sure he never even heard of Emma hahaha at the end, he just changed his mind. Well, that`s life. Love Mr. Darcy and Mr. Knightley, they are just perfect
LONG LIVE PERIOD DRAMA!!
Beautiful ❤
When will I stop crying while watching this?
Ugh why can't I have someone that loves me this much
Claire Austin Because you don't love in return.....that's why you are lonely......most of the time is what woman's want a guy who is crazy in love with them.
And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make..
When he's acting opposite Jennifer Ehle, it is something spectacular too.
Yeah..."Possession"...great movie!
I rode through the rain xD
I liked Jonnys "I'll obey you." BETTER. But; he's look and," Good Day." Was just as sad
Jeremy IS Knightly
I haven't seen any other versions of Emma, but this Knightley (Robert Northam?) is exquisite and so was Gwynneth.
Jeremy Northam...sigh...
I also like Kate Beckinsale's Emma and Mark Strong as Mr.Knightley is fantastic!!! Watch it!!!
How could anyone say no if a man proposed to you like that. ❤️😍
I love this, but I just have to say one thing........the video had to cut off right there! ;)
Mr. Knightley is handsome and I wish to have a man like him to propose to me like that.🥰🥰🥰
Best marriage proposal ever I believe.
*sobbing*
My wonderful darling forever---how he wished she said "yes"
Men!
How could you cut it off in the beginning of a kiss like that😝
Loooove this movie
Romola Garay and Jonny Lee Miller
❤❤
ale YES on Johnny
No.Garay plays a hysterical female rather than funnily witty one and that unpleasant guy with receding hair cannot be a romantic hero to me. Though I love their Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, BBC totally failed in their choice of main characters for Emma. Begone!
Jeremy & Gwyneth had better chemistry.
I love this scene almost as much as when Rochester, (Timothy Dalton's)1983 asks Jane Eyre to marry him. Alas, darn it! The first time aroundd Rochester alreaady had a wife. Still bravo!
i love mr knightly proposal, mine favorite is emma of 2020 with Anya blood nose.
Man she's so sweet and cute here, why did she have to get married to Tony Stank
adorabile Emma come tutte le protagoniste dei romanzi di Gene austen
awwwwwwwwww, indeed!
Oh my god her neck is SO thin!! I think her head is going to fall off under the weight of all that hair!

No! No! No! Just no!
Oh Jeremy Northam: the only true Mr Knightley! Just like Colin Firth is the only true Darcy
