    Would like to hear an unbiased viewpoint on this issue. Obviously he has a reason to make AI sound harmless.

      What would you even consider as an unbiased viewpoint and where would you find this guest? Most people have a stance on this issue and those that don't won't have much of an opinion on this topic. Trevor can in the future invite someone with the opposite stance, but asking for unbiased guests seems like a tall task.

    • @pelicanhill3251

      @@damiester1 He could bring on a computer science professor from MIT or something. Someone with knowledge of AI, but without having a massive financial stake in its success. Of course someone from Microsoft is going to give a sunny view of AI because his company is set to make billions and billions off of it. It's like bringing the CEO of McDonald's to talk about the safety of the beef supply.

      There's no such a thing as 'unbiased' opinion. Everybody has their own bias. What you can do is bring people from different points of view @@pelicanhill3251

      I feel like most powerful things can be used as a tool or weapon in human hands.
      It's interesting how what I took away from this, was that people don't trust their government, or governments in general. So listening to their authority on who or what to trust feels almost like a fool's errand.
      Thinking of tiktok specifically, and how it seems that it is the social network with the most Native American influence, and indiginous American representation, and really such a peek into the lives of everyday people in the world and the fabric of the US. It connects individuals in a real way.
      Then you hear that an entity like the US government has a problem with it, it does draw suspicion.
      I have to wonder now if that is by design, then remind myself " of course it is..." .that's so discouraging ! Lol

  • @gingerhipster
    @gingerhipster 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I dunno about you but I'm def super concerned about the emergence of a nationalist US superintelligence in the next few years. It's especially concerning because there's nothing anyone can do about it, and also it'll probably be an accident or unintended consequence from the perspective of many of the people designing the tools that will create it.

    • @gingerhipster
      @gingerhipster 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      AI is a tool until it's not because AI is a paradigm shift. This still isn't an accessible idea to most.

    Early AI research, like many technological advancements, was driven by military needs, such as intelligence gathering, data analysis, and autonomous systems. Over time, AI has expanded into civilian sectors-healthcare, finance, entertainment, and more. Now, private companies play a huge role in advancing AI, but military applications are still a major driver of innovation, especially in areas like autonomous weapons, surveillance, and cybersecurity.- GPT

    I think he wants a world where AI make humanity better but unfortunately no one company or person is creating AI. The company he may want to be a part of in making human better, there will be other that will use it to replace humans. Money is the driver and corporations will do whatever for their bottom-line. Yes even taking AI beyond humans.

    This edition is also on point, Mr. Noah. It is a great conversation to have.
    The fear of dependency is a real thing. Especially when we find that special that has the ability to impact our lives in a significantly positive and sustainable way. We need to always work on seeking balance.
    As for AI, the idea of creation may have been noble "making lives better", but as any human invention it stands the risk of being a weapon of the evil mind against us. We can't let go of our responsibility as humanbeings to keep a control over it.
    The devil can use our words to create a nightmare in our existence. That has always been the case with human creation. Even using GOD's against HIM.
    AI is not an exception. It can destroy if we let it control us or have too much access!
    ...

    He also wont talk about the algorithms apparent biases as it relates to race and class when applied to social constructs.

    Very good episode however you u vaguely touched on topics that are not as near as problematic. To me it was very tone deaf but maybe you will be more complicit and go into greater details on not a simple Conversation. The exploitation people use this technology has to be stopped. People feel emboldened when they are not checked. Life never was like that at one point. Now you order food to your door or anyone can say something about you on a keyboard!

      "To say that the Chinese government is not comfortable" with foreign programs/apps is a little soft... China controls its information wholly so its citizens are curated pro-CCP/ anti-American propaganda. Every post on the Chinese internet is screened by censors (bots). This is why you can't find any information there on the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre and a massive host of "sensitive" topics for the CCP. There can be no false equivalency between US & China's Internet. China ranks 09/100 in Human Freedom. US is like in the 70's out of 100.

      Americans can learn about the mistakes of their government. We can read about the war in Vietnam and how awful it was for instance for the Vietnamese, Agent Orange, etc... Chinese live in total blackout from reality unless they get VPNs to jump their countries' firewall. Many do but it's officially illegal there.

    The ai as a tool thing is misdirection. There is too much of a power requirement for this tool that is very bad at its job. It's gonna sell you on it being a replacement for humans and miss something humans won't and in the meantime use ungodly amounts of electricity. The power of ai is not to do it's job right it's to look to humans like it does. That distinction is incredibly dangerous. On top of that if it did work it would still be used to consolidate wealthy in the hands of the rich. In short regulate it viciously if you know what's good for you.
