When I first heard Tolerate it, it killed me. Finally someone appreciated this song. I found some people it went over their head.

I have to say I liked it a lot when I first heard it, but when I went on a night walk last night just to listen to the album in the right environment, this song really hit me hard. It absolutely deserves its place as track 5!

Tolerate it hits so hard!!! The chorus kills me everytime. It's, like, I've been doing everything to keep you looking at me ('mirrorball') but you just tolerate it. And the line that says 'i know my love should be celebrated but you tolerate it' OMG, TAYLOR, YOU WANT ME TO DROWN IN MY OWN TEARS?? She described every relationship I've ever been in

My thoughts on these two albums.
Folklore was a midnight confession. While Evermore was waking up to a breaking dawn.
Folklore crushed me and left me with a cliffhanger. It was dark and powerful.
But Evermore somehow gave me some sort of closure in the end. It's hard to explain this feeling.
In Folklore, it was almost like she was looking back at her past and present and trying to find clarity out of all the chaos. But she wasn't still out of the woods yet. There were glimpses of evermore in Folklore too.
On the other hand, Evermore lifted my spirit. I genuinely needed it. Look at how Willow picked up from Cardigan in the MV. She was missing a person in Cardigan. It took her on a journey with the help of her music but she came out with empty hands alone in her room. Again, it leaving us with a cliffhanger.
But in the next moment she looked down and it wasn't empty anymore. The gold thread pulled her back into another journey but this time, the person followed her as she followed him. And just when she thought nothing has changed, she found her man who was waiting for her all this time.
With Folklore, she arrived at the station for a new adventure. And Evermore is the journey on the train. The pain and regrets will still follow her but that's life. You can't avoid it no matter what.
And my gut feeling tells me that she needed this when her next project comes out. I maybe wrong but I'm just saying.
Now, some may like folklore better than evermore and vice versa. But personally for me i love them both equally because what kind of parent picks a fav child? Maybe some do, but not me.
Some of the songs kind of threw me off in Evermore on my 1st listen. But when I listened to both albums back to back again, it made more sense better than I can explain. You just need to be on the right frame of mind devoid of the initial release expectations/rush

you should definitely give HAIM’s album a try! their album “women in music pt.iii” is one of the bests of 2020 too. if folklore is an autumn album and evermore is a winter record, women in music part iii is summery. it kind of pays tribute of the sound of nostalgia - from 60s-70s soft rock to 90s alternative music, with very sunny sound palette.
ps. the girl named “este” that taylor mentioned in no body, no crime is actually one of the members of the trio (the three are sisters) but yeah, the song is purely fiction

Closures not supposed to sound fully complete. It’s a song about her fulfilling the “mad women” role and stripping herself from her usual song composing. Yet she makes the song, with the odd drums in mind to give the idea it’s being ripped from her mouth, to show all the words she wanted to say in response to people assuming things about her/ might apologize for assuming things later

Also I believe it's intentionally grating because of the anger behind it. Her vocals are determinately calm while the music behind is rage and distortion and chaos. It's brilliant artistically. The line "cuts right to the bone" is reflected in the stress we feel in the music. It's one of my favorite tracks now several years on. This album and Midnights 3 a.m. are my go to albums then TTPD.

Well now Taylor remains off socials but SHE IS THE BIGGEST STAN OF CHRISTMAS. During 1989 era , she literally handpicked and handpacked gifts for her fans and sent them all over the country . THERE IS LOTS OF FOOTAGE OF PEOPLE RECIEVING VERY SPECIFIC GIFTS AND A LETTER FROM TAYLOR or some of the times Taylor herself reached their houses .

Dorothea is the girl singing in ‘Tis The Damn Season, she’s a girl who left her little hometown for fame and stardom in Hollywood, and made fake friends there. She knows the only person left who actually cares about her and knows her is the boy back in her hometown (the one singing Dorothea) so when she comes home for a visit so she stays with him just for that weekend, because she has to leave again for LA

Taylor's grandmother Majorie, was an accomplished opera singer! Love that she put both of her grandparents in songs, Epiphany (on Folklore) starts with her talking about her Grandfather serving in the war and this song "Marjorie" about how she influenced Taylor and how she still feels so close to her. On both albums they are track #13, Taylor's favorite number and her birthday is December 13th!

I agree the instrumentals on Closure is distracting. But she did that for a reason, right? She never does anything without reason. I think maybe that’s the point. I don’t think this is about Kanye but I have heard someone else say that instrumental was similar to something he had done before. So maybe it is about Kanye. That’s the only reason I would think why she would have that instrumental on this track, it kinda ruins it. Whatever the reason, I think that’s the point. It’s supposed to ruin it just like whatever this person did ruined any hope of mending ways, and this instrumental never gets resolved.... it continues to be a distraction. Closure would mean eliminating that instrumental. But she doesn’t need the closure. It has to mean that.

You could be right, but I think it's more about her old record label "Big Machine", and here are the reasons why . . . 1) I think Kanye has gone off the deep end and hopefully he gets some help, but he is in her rear view mirror. 2) This is someone else's interpretation (and I would give them credit if I remembered their name) the sounds sound mechanical and disjointed like a "Big Machinery" breaking down. And 3) she mentioned getting a letter from someone saying they knew that what happened didn't go down right, that really sounds like Scott Borchetta in hindsight not liking what happened. Which is too bad for him, he should have sold to her instead of Braun.

Not sure if someone's already mentioned this, so I have been a huge Bon Iver fan forever and how Justin Vernon (lead singer of Bon Iver) sounds on 'Evermore' is how he usually sounds. The deep voice in 'Exile' was different from how we're used to hearing him.

Not sure if you plan on listening to her entire discography, but DEFINITELY listen to the songs "Dear John" on her Speak Now album, and "All Too Well" on her Red album. These two songs are considered her best during her Country era. The songwriting is absolutely insane. In "Dear John" she's singing about an ex (John Mayer) and she absolutely SLAYS him. The song starts slow and then builds and builds and builds. I also think it's one of her best vocals to date. And in "All Too Well" she takes you through an entire relationship and paints the picture so vividly -- just songwriting genius.

Marjorie hits soooo hard for me. I makes me think of my grandma who I spent most of my time with as a child & aunt who I never got to meet because she died when she was 24 but I’ve always felt connected to her somehow. Especially now that I’m 24. When she says “I should have asked you questions. I should have asked you how to be.” Kills me because when we’re young we’re so caught up in our own lives that we forget to ask the people who have already lived how they did it.

I have read the comments and I have different take on the song Closure. That song, for me, is not about Kanye but her former label. BIG MACHINE. As you can notice, the backing sound seems like a broken computer (a broken machine), a very beautiful and clever way of relating her relationship with her former record.
And if you'll watch her "making of the song" series on her album Reputation, there's a part there where one of the producer make a random piano sound like the sound in closure and Taylor said this: "Is it weird, i like it, it sounds like a broken computer"

It’s one of those very rare albums that for me at least, every single song is really good and many are in my favorite songs of all time. Yes! I think Closure is supposed to be annoying/distracting on purpose, almost ironical. It’s about Kanye, and he uses similar sounds in his music.
Edited to add: Almost like she won’t give him the privilege of another GOOD song instrumentally. By being the shortest song on the album, I think she may have been relaying the message that she doesn’t want to waste more of her time on him now, or going forward.
