I’m really looking forward to this series for a few reasons. You just blew my mind about the left stick input. That really explains a lot of the inconsistencies I’ve been experiencing, and I never knew that was a thing. Can’t wait for the next video in the series.

A lot of these sorts of guides end up amounting to not much more than "practice", which is good advice, but it's good advice I already knew. Somehow, in all my 7ish years of playing destiny, I never actively noticed that behavior with the reticle friction. That's actually really helpful. (I imagine I had it subconsciously, but that's bad for practice. Can't practice what you don't even realize you're doing.) I don't usually follow these sorts of guides, but I'm impressed so far.

Thanks Drew, your humility is rare and much welcomed in this youtube/twitch landscape. D1 was my first FPS and I had no idea how reticle friction worked. Moreover, I was too dependent on right stick corrections. Since watching your vid (originally not signed into google, but had to re-visit for comment and thumbs up), I’ve been practicing and have seen tangible results: Most notably, my stick sensitivity has increased from a 4 to a 7 because I’ve been less dependent on the right stick for maintaining my target. This had an unanticipated benefit to my shotgun play. I’m looking forward to more of your vids; keep up the great work!

  • @rubberduckiedogs

I’ve been playing this game for awhile now and somehow I never knew about the left stick movement activating reticle stickiness. I’m a bit rusty after taking a break and after losing a bunch of duels that I would have won not that long ago I realized I haven’t been strafing/moving the left stick consistently as my brain was focusing so much on aiming the right stick. I just assumed my lack of incredible juking was the reason for my recent pathetic play, but now I know it’s so much more than that. Thank you for doing this series, man.

With the auto rifle meta I really lost my sense of precision aim but this season I’ve been really committed to two hand cannons (True Prophecy and Bottom Dollar) and two snipers (Succession and Frozen Orbit). The only exception I really make on serious play is making the switch to Felwinter. I believe in repetition in the same weapon builds a lot of blocks for becoming more comfortable. For example, I was very comfortable with the iron banner sidearm and coldheart in Year 1 of D2 and it just worked. It helps to play with the meta but if you’re comfortable with weapons, that is what ultimately makes you better in the end.
I will watch this later when I get off of work because I’m always looking to improve like most. Happy to see this becoming a series

I'm definitely no drewsky, but if you can use cover to only be in one sightline at once (like he used the lip of the door there to block the first enemy's view) and engage the one you'll be able to kill faster/have to kill faster (the one in TLW's effective range, and potentially about to shotgun him) then that'll increase your chances nicely.
Works best if you have a weapon that's both fast and forgiving, often at the cost of range, eg. TLW, some sidearms (I like Brass Attacks, especially my roll with Killing Wind/Rampage), etc. That sort of rapid engagement is usually fairly close quarters

Thank you for the video. It truly helped me more than any other improve your aim video.oit there by helping me understand the mechanics. I honestly hate aim assist. I used to play a lot of COD and always disabled it as I want to be I complete control of my cross hair. This helped because my habit with strafing is how it always was, you strafe right you aim slight left always moving joysticks opposite each other. Makes sense why I always had such a hard time staying on any target that was moving as I'd always be trying to follow them with the right stick thinking my sensitivity was always just too high as I always over shit them. Turns out it was just a consistent over compensation. Thus is the first crucible tip guide that immediately showed improvement in my game play. Thanks dude!

Some advice I suggest is find 1 or 2 primary weapons to practice a lot of this stuff with. Preferably the main 1 or 2 primaries you use. For example: I've been a thorn main since D1 launch and I'd practice using it in pub matches all the time. From me using it so much Ik the pacing of it so well i do it subconsciously. Pacing of the weapon helps so much and it helps you learn the retical better as well. I hope this adviced helped with any of your aiming.

I recommend if you can to do a controller cam. The video is amazing and directions are very clear, but a visual interpretation would be fantastic!

Excellent video dude! I'm a Crucible main and would consider myself to be good to very good (not 1% tho), but I had no idea about the left stick activating the reticle friction. I think I've been utilizing it instinctively and due to personal experience with FPS games (and bungie FPS's specifically), but it's awesome to have a better understanding of what's going on behind the scenes. This is definitely going to help me out. I can't wait to try this out, or least be more conscious of this, and use it.

Great video. You need to talk about your current elite controller settings and your bindings. I have an elite 2 and I still don't know how are you doing those circle movements so fast. I tried every curve config, very stick tension / height. Also I'm puzzled at how fast you can dodge, I barely can two tap a button in the same time you snipe, dodge and recenter so I guess you're using single button for dodge. It'd be great to understand the ins and outs of your relationship with the controller :)
As a PC contorller player, I am truly hyped for this series! Keep it up.

This has been incredibly helpful! I'm a journey man D2 player and enjoy the crucible and this advice is going to make the crucible even more enjoyable. Seriously Drewsky, this is awesome advice and I am really appreciative...but buddy...hey you didn't think make this a few years earlier? Anyway, off to practice.

Some pointers on sensitivity and more specifically, a guide on elite controller settings would be awesome.
I've always wanted to mess around with those settings to really fine tune my aim but have no idea where to start

Can you make a topic on aerial gunplay, aiming in air , when to ADS, at what point in the flight trajectory and tips for each subclass ? Also how do you deal with primary exotics in the air?

Idk how some people feel about this but there are programs to allow you to place a crosshair on your screen at all times so you can see it regardless of your weapon

I really enjoyed this video Drewsky! Thank you! May I request covering the topic of surviving gunfights and how to stay alive. I struggle with knowing when to back out of a gunfight and knowing which scenarios I shouldn't get into. I trade often and would like to die less. Thank you!

I'm an ok player (top 6%) and I'm always looking to improve. I've watched so many great videos from content creators throughout the years, but this one is different. This is very basic, yet overlooked, advice. And it can only aid in becoming more efficient.
I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of this series. What controller(s) do you use?
