The end of the fight between Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Darth Maul shows the difference between Sith and Jedi very well. When the laser partitions separated Qui Gon and Maul from each other, the Jedi began to meditate, calming down, and the Sith, on the contrary, walked in a rage like a tiger in a cage, filling himself with emotions. And when Obi Wan attacked Maul after the death of his master, you can see that he was filled with rage, which took him out of balance, since this is not the way of the Jedi and he does not know how to handle it, and Darth Maul, being a Sith who has been raised inside the order since childhood, who on the contrary feeds himself with emotions, easily he was defeated and thrown into the mine, and only when Obi Wan was able to calm down and return to balance, he was able to defeat Maul мне

jedi trainees (also called padawan) are usually taken in at very young age. the reason behind this is to not let them have too strong connections to others. like yoda said: if you are afraid (for example to loose someone) this can lead you down a dark path. there is a reason why jedi often feel aloof or disconnected. it is exactly what they are to make sure they dont have fears or other emotions that can lead them towards the dark side.

The Jedi actually constantly use the Force while in a lightsaber duel, letting it guide their actions. A lightsaber duel is based just as much on fighter's precognative abilities as it is their physical prowess, like how Obi-wan explained in A New Hope. The stronger the Force connection, the easier you can predict an opponent's moves. But the more skill with the lightsaber, the harder it will be to predict their movements, giving them an advantage.

You're right, there are some slow parts in this episodes, and a lot of politics, but Lucas felt that it was necessary in order for us to understand why the non-functionnal republic transitioned into the Galactic Empire. You will learn more about Anakin and several characters in the next 2 episodes. I won't spoil anything for you, but as for this one, you'll see some of the same characters as well as new characters. If you don't have a good memory for names, take some notes, names & relationship between people (X is apprentice of Y, and Y is the apprentice of Z for example)--if you do it right, you should have a chain of names starting from Yoda up until Luke. As you already saw in this movie with the Queen, some characters have more than one name or double identities (especially on the Sith side: one sith name, Darth or Lord something & one public name), you'll understand later. My personal favorite is episode 3 (much darker & it's the link between the prequels & Original triligy, where most of the plot is revealed)--but if you're attentive to all dialogues, you'll have an idea before watching it about who is who. One very important conversation is between Anakin and the chancellor at the space opera in episode 3 (you'll know what I mean when you'll see it). It reveals a lot about the Siths and Anakin's father. I won't say anymore to not give major spoilers, except than: pay attention to details & conversations between people. Have a nice day, while I'll look what else you have on your channel. And don't worry about not knowing everything, we all went through there, back in the mid 70's & 80's. Ask questions & people will gladly answer you while trying to not spoil you too much. There is a complete timeline if you want the backstory from the start (millions of years before episode 1), but I'll give it to you only after you watched all 6 movies--too many spoilers.

Darth Maul was not the phantom menace; it was the trade federation invasion. A phantom is something that isn't really there, so a phantom menace would be a fake threat.

@@marcusmcgill4423 As George Lucas explained in an interview with Vanity Fair, "The phantom menace is a character named Darth Sidious," who Lucas described as "the last of the Sith." It's interesting to note that, at the time this interview was conducted, Lucas didn't acknowledge Darth Sidious was in fact Palpatine. This led to speculation Palpatine was a pawn of the Sith, rather than the fulfillment of their millennia of planning. This, of course, was probably why Lucas was so careful with his wording in the first place; he wanted viewers to speculate as to the true identity of the Sith Lord, just as the Jedi would do over the course of the prequel trilogy.Lucas hinted the title actually had something of a double meaning. As Lucas explained in his interview, the concept of "menace" should be broadened to include Darth Maul - the brutal Sith Apprentice who threatened Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maul stood front and center in marketing for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, with Lucasfilm well aware his terrifying appearance had potential viewers hooked. He appeared in almost all the posters and even in the film's trailer. "At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi," Darth Maul seethed, in words filled with dark promise. "At last we will have revenge."...It appears Marcus you are correct 👍

The famous song parody writer and singer Weird Al Yankovic did this parody of “American Pie,” which very closely tells the story of the movie. He famously wrote it originally based on leaks and advertisements about the film, and when he finally saw it for real, he had very little he needed to change. Enjoy.
