By far this show portrayed the costumes most realistically compared to all other imperial shows--it's so majestic and beautiful! I can tell it put a lot of effort and attention to the details while keeping originality. Also, I noticed Ruyi's outfits when she became imperial noble consort and empress were more beautifully embroidered compared to the first empress'. The first empress' outfit looked the same as all the other consorts' and concubines'.

While I didn't dig into the economies of both shows, I thought the costumes from the Yanxi Palace didn't match the era because they looked too modernized compared to the Cixi era which took place almost two centuries after. There is a western look to the costumes in the Yanxi Palace that to me didn't look authentic, as I thought during the Qianlong era the western influence was just beginning to break in.

Out of all the Qing dynasty dramas about the Harem, this series is one of my favorite. I've rewatched it 3 times and still can't get enough the detail on the costumes and the casts. This part is my favorite seeing Ruyi becoming an Empress. It sure gave me chills.
As a Westerner not very familiar with Chinese history, I'm finding this series simply breathtaking. It's just gorgeous to see, there is so much color and detail. The sounds and the music are exotic to my ears, the sets and activities of the cast members are fascinating. The scenery is so expansive the costumes, the hair, the jewelry is amazing. Add in the outstanding writing acting, and the beautiful actors and actresses, and it's a total immersion experience. Thank you for posting these clips!

Now.. The music for her coronation sounds similar to when she was sent to the cold palace. Maybe its mean to foreshadow that being an empress is just another kind of imprisonment for her later 😭

看到這集如懿當上皇后時，真的很感慨，是乾隆一手將如懿推上后位，把她推到后宮中最崇高卻也最危險的位置上，是他強迫如懿坐上后位，太后也警告過他，這樣做無非是害了如懿，他卻說如懿如果無法承擔這些便不是優秀的女人，甚至後來不停地以各種莫名的理由責怪如懿，斥責她不是好皇后，就像寒香見是自願喝下不孕藥的，如懿也再三告訴她，但皇帝不分是非就打了她。而如懿從來在意的都不是位份而是情分，皇帝口口聲聲說他心愛的女人是如懿，可他後來對如懿做出的種，真的看不出來有愛，甚至是基本的尊重也沒有，這部戲中的皇帝心思真的很矛盾
別說是皇帝了，很多尋常男人也會這樣。
