I know you posted a while ago but I wanted to maybe give you a bit of insight. This takes place around 1750. Chinese (or actually Mandarin) has simplified and traditional languages. Along with that, this is going on language almost 300 years old that's dealing with very formal settings and expectations. Add to it that the structure of their language isn't set up the same as English. Put all of that together and it makes it very difficult to translate what they're saying into English exactly as they are saying it so it makes sense to us. Since some words and or phrases can be interpreted slightly different, the translation we get depends on the translator. I've seen the entire show once and watched many, many snippets like this, sometimes the same scene done by different TH-camrs. The translation is different each time. Some are literal translations from Mandarin and are much harder to follow because phrases are said differently between the two languages or because in Mandarin they are more poetic than we are in English. Some translations take it too far into English and it loses its cultural charm. So even though it seems choppy and hard to follow, the main ideas of what they are saying is in there.

I guess some of the translators should consider trying to translate properly instead of just taking a stab at it and taking away from the integrity of the show for viewers who can only rely on the subtitles to understand.
Ruyi had a heart of gold. Too bad Hongli forgot about all that. One of the dumbest emperors ever! Actually they where ALL dumb in the sense of love. Ruyi deserved better! 😩 I can’t STAND Concubine Jia! She deserved EVERYTHING that came her way! 😠
If you look at history of Kings/Emperors from all over the world, you can see that most of them were indeed idiots/dumb (result of preserving the "blood purity") and it was really the advisers/ministers who ran the country, mostly by tricking the emperors or going behind their backs to do the right things...
I like the scene of Rongpei taking by an empress to work in the palace,,Rongpei is so straight n honest she is determined too..not caring her life for truth n fight for the poor..she has a strong good heart for truth n generous she knows her fignity.. that why empress likes it.empress is a king of a diamond heart n a very wise empress to take a wise decision.. I love all the scene iam a drama addicted 🤗🤗😍😘
Rong Pei, Hailan, Li Yu, Suoxin, Jiang Yubin, Ling Yunche, Consort Ying, Consort Rong, even Yuhu and Empress Dowager are the people who always stand for Ruyi. That made this drama well balanced between bad and good character side.
This is the spin off to Empresses in the Palace. I thought this was good until I watched Empresses .. The last two episodes was to die for! Didn't end sad like this
