It's a visual clue: Fuca Lang'hua is a hypocrite. Much like she makes a big deal of how she's the "mother of the nation", but ensures that her chief rivals bear no children.
The Empress Dowager called her out in an early episode and said all the consorts looked as ugly as they did when they first came to the palace because she forced everyone to be cheap. lol I think part of it was she didn't want them showing off and looking too good for the emperor. She was a snake from the beginning even with the bracelets she gifted to Ruyi and Consort Gao.
@@hpr2008 it's funny as hell too because the consorts would wear the cheaper clothes in front of the empress, then go right back to their own palaces and put their finery back on 🤣 they didn't believe her anyway. whereas ruyi actually dressed more simply without compromising her elegance
When A’Rou admitted that the emperor had never actually slept with her but deliberately made all of the other consorts think he had, every woman in that room felt that. They might have hated A’Rou, but they all understood how bad that must have been. For a split second, I think they all pitied her. A consort’s main purpose in life is to bear a child for the emperor. For him to withhold that on purpose…whew.
I started watching this about 3 yrs ago. An episode just popped up. Now i just watch my favorite episodes. One reason its so good is because we love n hate diff ones. That proves what good actors/actresses they are. Of course Ruyi n RongPei are my favorites.
I’m not going to lie. This was one of the times I appreciated Qianlong being such a theater kid. He could’ve done it without fanfare just demand his servants drag ARou into his hall, strip her off all her titles and then confront her with the truth. But he went this route to show the other consorts because he knows it’s what A’Rou truly deserves 😂 i had so much fun watching this.
I think A'Ruo refused to give up Consort Hui and the others to keep the venomous snakes in the palace to hurt the emperor and Ruyi. That was her only means of revenge for herself.
The Guifei has her father and brothers hostage. A'ruo has to do as she is told or Consort Hui's father (who is the boss of A'Ruo's father) will certainly make A'Ruo's family a living hell, if they will be left alive, that is.
I still think Ruyi's Emperor is on the toddler side, blaming everyone else for the things he did, throwing tantrums, working everybody's nerves like he's working on a job, and just being an all around brat, but he's also quite intelligent (which I should have known since he was Emperor and he was the ruler of a country). I made another oopsy-doole and I hang my head in shame.
In the royal court, the emperor had few if any checks on his power. Everything and everyone deferred to him and his favor could make/break someone. So I can see how such an environment raises an overgrown spoiled brat for an emperor
Watching this over I must day consort Jia was really good at scheming. She literally planted the seed that everything was done by Concubine shen. She covered everyones behind.
Yes, Jia was very good at multi-tasking. None better, except the Empress Dowager (and that was because she'd been through everything the younger concubines had been, are going, or will go through.) But I have to say that Wei Yawan is coming up fast she even toppled Jia, even going so far as to use Jia's own methods to do it. And to think, the Emperor actually taught Wei Yawan how to do everything, and I do mean everything, she did. Of course, he didn't know that she would kill people, but he didn't know that she wouldn't either. So, at the very least, that made him an accessory to his own 3 year old daughter's murder, which in turn, contributed to Ruyi's giving up on him. Not stop loving him, just giving up on him. Just more of my seemingly neverending thoughts about the movie.
Arou was never going to places the blame on anyone because she was protecting her family. Even though she hates ruyi, you can't say she wasn't loyal. But her loyalty lies with herself and her family.
Yeah but her family is still going to die after everything that she did .they said the familial exterminations were the punishment there is really no point for her to lie as either way she is losing her family
That look Ruyi shot 1st Empress tho! Both Ruyi and the Emperor know 1st Empress had a hand in it. Had A'Rou not been so arrogant and hateful perhaps someone in the palace would've been loyal to her and helped her out. Plus she still blamed Ruyi despite the emperor making her tell what was really happening between them....which was alot of absolutely NOTHING?
Aruo was favored during Ruyi's time in the Cold Palace. The others saw her as competition. Also, even the ones who didn't like Ruyi saw Aruo as a traitor for what she did. Having been a maid before her promotion didn't help either.
A'Ruo certainly didn't mind framing and falsely accusing Ruyi but now she cries foul? I don't see how she could blame Ruyi for the emperor's years long contempt and mistreatment. 🤷🏽♀️ Then she was mad at the maid for telling on her? At least the maid didn't lie like A'Rou did on Ruyi.
Because people like A'ruo always blame others no matter what they do, I have the same problem. they always think Ruyi is at fault no matter what happens just to blame Ruyi because she hated her.
I’ve watched it several times and I just think that she was a victim of a vicious loveless cycle I feel bad to be honest it might drive you crazy just to see how everyone else is happy with the person that you love but the person that you love hates your entire being so yeah she’s more of a victim than anything
She had a chance at a good marriage, but threw a hissy fit when she found out. Risk would have found her a decent and prosperous man to take her as his legal wife, and the couple could have had as good a chance of a good life as any other arranged marriage of the time. Instead A'rou wanted the stress of being one of dozens of women fighting for favor. Having lived in the palace she had to have known what she was getting in to, but she insisted. She involved herself in murder, and happily for Karma got what she deserved.
@@cassiemoneequinn7530 VICTIM....How so? A'Rou was treated well by Ruyi yet, she treated Suoxin & others of her same rank horribly, tried to seduce the Emperor behind Ruyi's back. Then willingly back -stabbed Ruyi for a come up. VICTIM?, I think not... She got exactly what she deserved! She was despised by the harem, double crossed, back stabbed and thrown under the bus by those she trusted.
I put partial blame of this on Ruyi for not managing her well enough (before Ruyi was sent to the cold palace). She let A'Ruo get away with bullying other palace staff, and A'Ruo more or less could do whatever she pleased. When she finally faced consequences, A'Ruo threw a dangerous tantrum and blamed Ruyi for all the wrongs in her life On the other, A'Ruo kinda only saw the glamorous side of being a concubine/noble lady. She didn't realize how it was a gilded cage with lots of underhanded in-fighting until she too was locked inside the cage
A'Ruo got treated that way by the Emperor because he knew dang well she was behind everything that happened to Ruyi, and he knew she framed her. A'rou could live in denial all she wants bottom line she was guilty of it and she got long since caught .
i can feel ruyi’s sadness when she was talking to the mute A’Ruo… i mean, u did considered her family, so for her to stab u and betray u so much, it just hurts
If Aruo could write , she could confess the truth . But I really believe she wouldn't . However the punishment for killing Royal heirs was that nine generations of the offenders family was killed also ...So there was no way to save any of her family as well . This hiding of the true culprits and the mastermind makes no sense ....But perhaps she thought that the Empress would hide her family from the Emperors justice ....
A'Rou brother and father worked for Noble Consort Hui's father, who was a notable general in the Emperor's military. When Hui stood up at the banquet and told Arou she didn't even think of her family's safety, that was her way of threatening the lives of Arou's brother and father. That's why Arou wouldn't tell who instigated her. She was saving her brother's and father's lives.
@@Meela234 Isn't it true that those who are convicted of killing royal heirs / their own families were killed including and up to nine generations ? IE cousins .....So they would have died anyway ..
I believe she told the Emperor after Ruyi left and he just didnt tell her. The Emperor knew that Noble Consort Hui had a hand in it. This is why he had Yuhu investigate where A'rou's brother and father was at
It's implied that Hongli knew Gao, Jia, and Xiaoxian were involved for a long time but he didn't want it to be exposed. It would be too much scandal. He wanted a neat, easy target to pin everything on to get Ruyi out of the Cold Palace and resolve the whole issue without losing anyone important to him or his power. He knew who was involved, as did Ruyi, and everyone else in court, but no one could just come out and say it. That's why he gave the poison to A'ruo to keep her quiet. If he hadn't, and A'Ruo had exposed Xiaoxian's involvement, he wouldn't have been able to turn a blind eye anymore and Ruyi would never let it go.
A'Rou's maid:"Mistress, don't blame me..." Isn't that the same thing A'Rou said at that thing that passed for Ruyi's trial? My, my. Words certainly have a way of turning around to bite you, don't they?
When Jia was confessing to ruyi about the things she did and told her she didn't have to do anything to AROUND she already hates her! I want to know why in the reason!?
A'RUO was ambitious, brat and rude from the beginning as ruyi never treated her as her servent..one time emperor praised A'RUO for being smart and her father's merits and she thought may b she has a chance with the emperor. She even tried to seduce emperor by dressing up like a noble lady infront of the emperor. But she was a maid so it was a crime for her to dress up like that ( it was forbidden for palace maids to wear colourful, embroidered dresses without any festivals) and she could be severely punished for that.. Ruyi warned her. Stupid A'RUO thought ruyi was jealous of her and she is trying to take away her chance of success. So she made a ridiculous dream in her mind that emperor likes her and it was ruyi's jealous which was on her way. So she began to hate her 😊
How can these kings grow up in such broken families with plottings and schemings and not be disgusted by the thought of giving the same environment to their children. Like I grew up in a family where my grandfather and father mostly my grandfather would smoke and drink and curse and beat people in anger. The environment that time was so disgusting for me that I'm still disgusted at the thought of smoking and drinking and I go nowhere near them
My my my what a tangled web we weave and everything gets caught in it I know it he knows the truth but he didn't want her to know the truth he know his wife did this and he know about the other one he's just didn't want his wife to know the truth wow
Its a bit lengthy and between the lines but Ruyi had made thoughts to marry off A'Rou because she felt that A'Rou's temper would get her into trouble that Ruyi couldn't get her out of. A'Rou thought that the Emperor genuinely actually liked her and wanted her to be a concubine and Ruyi kept pushing her away from the Emperor instead of going "Hey, so I have this awesome servant girl who would make a great wife ((Similar to Chun with Yuwan))" and that her being in that predicament was thus because Ruyi wouldn't 'treat her rght' not realizing what the people who were the ones who instigated her would actually server her up on a silver platter.
@@lyqueruss2715 So, in short, because Ruyi tried to help A'Rou and give her a good life, A'Rou developed the idea that Ruyi, not A'Rou's own failings, was responsible for her plight? 🤦🏽♀️ Plus, the emperor NEVER showed any type of affection toward A'Rou.
Even though I agree that Emperor is wrong in many things and wronged Ruyi many times that's how it was for them that time. Emperor was considered God. For few years his place was also not stable. A wrong step could cause his deposing. Love wasn't equal to that. And consort Hui and Empress both came from powerful clans. They couldn't be easily punished. Even his own mother Empress dowager he saw a threat in giving her too much power in court(when they were choosing which princess will marry Mongols). Later on becoming stable enough on his seat he thought of himself as "god", his words r only right, his actions are right and it can't be otherwise. Thats how Emperors were. And another little thing, he loved Ruyi, that's undeniable. And because of that he got mad at her more, got jealous because he wanted be the only man in her mind. I don't think he would go as easy on Ruyi if she did the same things as Jia did(for example). So yeah, he is a dick, but you can understand where it all came from. (Please tell me if I'm wrong about something! I watched the whole series and that's how I understood it)
Yeah! You are right! I think his biggest wrongdoing is persuaded ruyi to become his wife at start. He only think about his love and himself but later he cannot protect her and even forget about their past love.
I do agree with you. It is as Rubi said when she blasted him with all the truth bombs and her grievances and then cut her hair. He loved her as Prince Hongli, but Hongli died when he became the emperor. From then on, their love was eroded by his power trip and power struggles. Lots of people say that he couldn’t protect her because of the power struggle, I say, he wouldn’t protect her. He had a choice and he chose himself and his power over her. He probably even thought to himself that he could let her suffer a bit now so he could gain more power and then be able to protect her (bullsh*t excuse) and exonerate her, like in this scene. But as we know from watching, he just fell more in love with his own power and controlling everything.
Greed and/or the romanticization of the wealth/lifestyle. For the younger ones (i.e. the teenagers), there may also be the fantasy of a "romance with a handsome emperor" thing going on.
@@leen5571 The king/emperor is swapping all sorts of body fluids with all these women; I would be so grossed out and scared of catching something. Obviously people did not think of those things then, just as many of us don’t think about it now.
"Grass is Greener on the Other Side." Jingse makes a similar concept that she wishes she was born a common woman after she learns she needs to get married. A good illustration of this is the scene in Aladdin where Aladdin and Jasmine are in Aladdin's 'home' and looking at the palace talking about it. Aladdin talks about being able to move around without worry but Jasmine says everyone tells you where to go Aladdin talks about wearing nice clothes but Jasmine says everyone tells you what to wear. Both of them see the shiney points of what could be a good life but internally they know the bad points of that life as well.
The truth of it all is right in his face, but he won't deal with it like a man nor "the emperor of the world" because if he deposes his lying, deceiving, conniving, poisoning, murdering Empress/Queen, it makes him look bad for his choice in making her Empress, lavishing gifts on her above and beyond all others (i.e., box of pearls at the banquet), and favoring her above his entire harem. He's not dealing with her, or interrogating her because of her loyalty and devotion to him, he's not dealing with her because his ego can't handle the hit it will take if he does. He actually said he 'hopes' she's not what they're now pretty sure that she is: just suspecting her has now changed to believing she's involved up to her pretty neck. Heck, even the servants and eunichs know more about his palace, the harem palaces, the co-servants, harem and household chaos than he does and even when they tell him the truth, he is too weak, arrogant and proud to accept it and deal with the problem at hand. The more time he gives these murderous, conniving women, the more children/heirs he's going to lose. After all that has happened, he still chooses to remain clueless and weak. How in heck does a man like this think he's an excellent 'ruler of the world' when he can't even control a bunch of women of his own choosing?!
I agree, except that the empress wasn’t chosen by him. She was forced on him as his main wife in order for him to be able to marry Ruyi as a concubine. I think many of the “wives” he took in when he was young were not really of his choosing. Most of them were probably shoved at him by the ED. When his power stabilized, he took in whoever he fancied, like that poor Mongolian princess (?) whom he forced into marriage against everyone’s better judgment.
This is such a sad episode, and I can't help feeling sorry for A'Ruo. She's a woman unprotected by a powerful clan, completely vulnerable as she tries to rise in society, deceived and manipulated by the Emperor, taught to hate Ruyi by circumstances and the poisonous women around her. In the interview with the Emperor and Ruyi, when A'Ruo finally reveals that he has never touched her, that all the nights she'd spent with him were just fakes, illusions to trick the other consorts, Ruyi glances at him with a very poignant expression. She hadn't set out to destroy her servant and is initially puzzled as to why A'Ruo hates her so much. But then she realizes that the Emperor's manipulations, which he says were intended to discover who'd sought to kill Ruyi, guaranteed that A'Ruo would hate her, even give her good reason to. Ruyi is mad at the Emperor because he had used her in exactly the scheming ways the other consorts had used A'Ruo. Ruyi is the one who most resisted the incentives to scheme, and yet she couldn't avoid being used as a pawn in someone else's schemes.
The actress playing Ruyi is so pretty. And her voice is different, she dominates the dialog when she speaks.

imagine how sanbao and suoxin feel watching their former sister and friend do these things to ruyi, then seeing her get her due punishment
A'ruo used to bully/quarrel with multiple palace workers and Ruyi let her get away with it. I wonder if Suoxin and Sanbao were also bullied by her and despised what she did to Ruyi
@@ahstiasummers5583 A'Ruo definitely bullied Suoxin. I don't think there's any scenes where she does the same to Sanbao, but knowing her character, she probably did
you imagine too much. this show is shallow. they just despise her. no complex feelings
@@ahstiasummers5583 I remember there was one scene were Ruyi told A’Rou to stop treating Souxin the way she was, when A’Rou bullied Souxin in front of her
Has anyone ever noticed that Empress Xiaoxian claims to not like luxurious things but comapred to Ruyi as Empress, she dressed rather extravagantly.
True, she loved showing off that SHE was empress and no one else...
She was a fraud!
周迅,對阿若說話時 那段真是每看一次雞皮疙瘩一次
演技太到位了
I always laugh when I see how hard Mei slaps Aroua 😂, she (Mei) spins counter clockwise after she hit her.......
And he knew favoring her would make the others hate her too.
I started watching this about 3 yrs ago. An episode just popped up. Now i just watch my favorite episodes. One reason its so good is because we love n hate diff ones. That proves what good actors/actresses they are. Of course Ruyi n RongPei are my favorites.
I watch this scene so many times. such great acting from the everyone
Noble consort Hui just outed herself by reacting the way she did thus garnering the emperor’s further suspicions 😂😂😂
And that’s the moment Ruyi realized, the emperor never intended to punish hui or the empress smh 16:09
She ended up just as dead. Gao probably had her brothers killed as well.
One of the fundamental rules of scheming is that you must have backup plans and someone you can pin it on.
Just more of my seemingly neverending thoughts about the movie.
in the books she is much worse omg the books will have your mouth fall to the floor all 6 of them
Actually the a ruo actress acted very well.
如懿:看看你惹的禍

This proves no matter what culture it is or where your from money changes people, and they are the same in certain instances.
Ruyi is very sharp and analytical.
She needed to be with the mess she was dealing with all the time
A'Ruo certainly didn't mind framing and falsely accusing Ruyi but now she cries foul?
When she finally faced consequences, A'Ruo threw a dangerous tantrum and blamed Ruyi for all the wrongs in her life
On the other, A'Ruo kinda only saw the glamorous side of being a concubine/noble lady.
@@Meela234
I believe she told the Emperor after Ruyi left and he just didnt tell her. The Emperor knew that Noble Consort Hui had a hand in it. This is why he had Yuhu investigate where A'rou's brother and father was at

I always wonder if the emperor gave her the medicine so she won't exposed the Queen's involvement in the constant attacks against Ruyi.
2:18 Ruyi immedietly realizes that the Emperor is making his move against A'rou and her backers.
A'Rou's maid:"Mistress, don't blame me..." Isn't that the same thing A'Rou said at that thing that passed for Ruyi's trial? My, my. Words certainly have a way of turning around to bite you, don't they?
I was amazed by the fact that this Drama was be able to join all best actresses of china.

So she began to hate her 😊
It's Ruyi's fault having dotted on Arou!
She saw her as a rival. One who she could not compete with.

如懿的眼神 好黑化
Ruyi's sly smile when someone who has harmed her is getting their just due. 😏
Anyway, how is any of what A'Rou said Ruyi's fault?

Mei Ping. that Slap. Bravo 👏👏👏

Why would any woman deliberately want to go into the palace and become a concubine? The whole place is a cesspool.
Women were just chattel then, they could either get married, become a nun or be their parent's servant for the rest of their lives.
He did that during a banquet in wasted that good food thats lik shit being spilled right when its time to eat Thanksgiving dinner.
At last, ARou got punished
