Today I visit the gravesites and former Encino ranch home of of gay comic actor, Edward Everett Horton.
Edward Everett Horton's former estate is located on Edward Everett Horton Lane in Encino, California.
Horton is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, CA. I also visit his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He's probably best remembered as the narrator of the 1960s FRACTURED FAIRYTALES cartoons, Chief Screaming Chicken on the BATMAN tv show, Roaring Chicken on the tv show F TROOP and for his roles in classic movies such as IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD, and for co-starring with Fred Astair and Ginger Rogers in movies like TOP HAT, SHALL WE DANCE and THE GAY DIVORCEE.
Thanks for joining me today and for sharing the memories!

Horton had one of those rare, truly distinctive and instantly recognizable voicee, but we'd have trouble putting a face to it. I wonder if he did any other voiceovers for commercials or movies. Had audiobooks existed then, I don't think he would have wanted for work.

EEH added so much fun to all those movies he appeared in. Thanks to TCM for bring all those classics to modern audiences. My first awareness of him as a child was in the Rocky and Bullwinkle show. Fractured Fairy Tales were, and ARE still the best... Never knew anything about his private life before..

i collect memorabilia of edward for almost 15 years now (starting when i was 15). had a blog for him for about 3-4 years as well (sadly no more). i live in europe and would have never had the financial means to travel there to see his grave in person so THANK YOU!! this was AMAZING!! by now i think i should have 2000+ articles & pictures of his + several handwritten letters or signed autograph cards. one article i distinctly remember of him, which henceforth, made me think of him as rather bisexual and not gay. in it he personally says that he's stopped hoping for a woman to fall in love with him because he's never been optically appealing and characteristically a clown to them. he must have been interested in women in his youth but had no chance apparently. i assume he then had turned to the male sex and was more fortunate. something else that i want to share is that eddie himself knew of his stigmatization of being a "sissy" type actor and never acted upon it although he didn't really approve of it. he said that you can compare his sissy type roles with his roles where he played a leading man, a husband, a father and they will outclass them. the audience stigmatized him like that, not his way of acting. i see him more like a character type of actor rather than a comedian. in "roar of the dragon" for example, when his loved one dies, he takes a machine gun in grief and kills people. a very masculine role that defies his common image immensely. :-)

Thank you, so much, dordoni, for sharing this with us. How awesome that you have been collecting his memorabilia all of these years. Hopefully you will write a book about him. I remember as a little kid riding along the 101 headed toward our home in Canoga Park my mother would point off the freeway and blurt out, “that’s where Edward Everett Horton lives!” I didn’t know who the hell she was talking about and why she was so excited. Thanks to you, now I know! Too funny.

I remember growing up watching Rocky & Bullwinkle. The narrator of Fractured Fairytales. Saw him in movies with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers typically playing character roles.
Vivian Vance was from Cherryvale, Kansas and was known for her role as Ethel Mertz, the wife of Fred Mertz who was the cantankerous pinch penny landlord on I Love Lucy and as Bub on My Three Sons. Ms Vance spent her retirement years in Tiburon, California near San Francisco. She died of cancer in 1979, her remains were cremated a d her ashes scattered at sea.

Many thanks for doing this presentation! I was always a huge fan of EEH and he never fails to make me laugh (even today while watching his old films). In the early 1990's I became acquainted with an (older) lifelong autograph collector from New York City. His collection consisted of mostly signed "Playbills" from Broadway plays. Anyway, one of the first things I asked him was, did he have anything signed by Edward Everett Horton (?) It turned out that he did, and I still treasure the 1965 Playbill from "Carousel" which Mr. Horton signed - it was from the last stage production in which he appeared (this was at the newly opened "Lincoln Center.") Mr. Horton's clear signature was not hurriedly scribbled - it's letter perfect, as you might expect. Thanks again for your great efforts. Cheers to all!

I did know him because of Fractured Fairy Tales, but I also loved him in his last movie role, a non-speaking role, Cold Turkey. He was also great in Top Hat and Arsenic and Old Lace. I believe he guested on Dennis the Menace TV show at least two times, and I enjoyed those shows.
