PCC
A police certificate is a statement that you don’t have a criminal record or, if you have one, a copy of your criminal record. They help us confirm if there are any reasons you may be inadmissible to Canada.
Important document needed for PR, Work/Student Permit.
Who needs to give PCC
you and your family members who are 18 years or older
every country you (or a family member) stayed in during the last 10 years for 6 months or more in a row
You don’t need to give us police certificates for any period of time before you were 18 years old or for time spent in Canada.
When is PCC needed
For PR, it's a must and is needed once you get your ITA.
For work/study permit applications, IRCC may ask you for PCC. As we applied for a Work permit, though it was not mandatory, we choose to get one. So that if it is asked after filing an application, it would cause delays.
So if you are planning for a work/study permit you may apply for PCC.
It is good within 6 months.

While Applying for PCC, you have to mention the purpose and the country. And it's written there that it's valid for that country and purpose only.

BLS International Centre : If you are in Canada.

No, you will need to be present at passport office as they capture the photo. But you can apply pcc from canada from BLS centre

Can’t we get PCC directly from local police station?
Yes, it is mentioned on IRCC website that you can get PCC from your local district police station. However check with your police station that you need PCC for immigration. Otherwise getting it from Passport office obviously works.

Special considerations
Character Certificates are not accepted.
Some police clearance certificates have limitations relating to jurisdiction and time period having been searched. Such certificates will not be accepted.
There are different formats for the police clearance certificate depending on the issuing authority.

I have a question related to pcc.
One of my friend's got married in June 2021, she is planning to go canada pr and she is just exploring the important things which is required for pr. So my question is that at the timet of pcc is it mandatory to have spouse name in passport or they don't need that type of document, only marriage certificate will work ? She mentioned some people said it is important some said not mandatory.
If not mandatory, will pcc department will clear the process with it?

Spouse name on passport is not mandatory. So it is fine to have the passport as it is now. Marriage certificate is the mandatory document and there should be no problem with PCC.
