Cross guard is the best stance for 1v1 saber fights. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking because of its high damage that you use it to hack away at big beasties with a lot of health, but that’s actually where it’s the weakest.
The cross guard punishes enemies with a large amount of parry-able attacks or enemies with low stamina bars that can be staggered. If you’re patient, let the enemy come to you, and get the parry timing right, you can kill some bosses in 6-7 swings.
Patience is the only option for grandmaster
It is not. For example Bode last phase is much quicker and easier with dual wield thanks to auto-parry. Also auto-parry turns Dagan fight to a cakewalk. Bedlam saber-wielders can be nearly stun-locked with blaster stance. Choose right tool for the right job.
I agree. I tried cross guard completely unleveled vs Bode on JGM and downed him in an hour after making the switch. Cross guard simply punishes harder after parrying.

@@C5FC46A0 Dodge, of course. I was using auto parry right before Bode regular attacks in the second phase. At that point they are slow enough to successfully deploy that trick. Bode first phase attacks are too fast for that.
I beat the game in master with the crossguard. Never changed it. It’s my absolute favorite along with maul’s dual blade

Crossguard easily counters droidekas, I was shocked when everyone complained about droidekas.
Yeah cross guard, dual saber, and double sided. Used those the entire game. The basic saber is ok. The blaster stance is fucking garbage. You need to dump all your skill points and perks into it to make it remotely useable.

Bode was Harder to beat than Darth Vader in this Game
Vader went against Cere, a well known fantastic duelist. Bode went against Cal and they’re both decent duelists. Vader is much slower due to Vader’s cybernetic replacements. Bode is not stronger, Bode is simply fighting a weaker opponent.

cross guard is op especially if u upgrade it bc u unlock a ranged attack, i used it on my 2nd play through

I admire your use of the crossguard. Unfortunately I like to hack away but it did help at the 3rd and 4th phase of the fight. Good man
Bode 1st phase is easy with any stance. Crossguard is just faster. Last phase is insane on GM though. There's often like half a second between his attack series to land your hit. But his attack preparations become slower which allows you to use dual stance auto-parry and you can finish him much faster than with crossguard.
If you’re able to tell when he goes to throw his lightsaber, you can use the shockwave with the cross-guard to cancel it. But this fight on Grandmaster was so painful. him and Rayvis were quite tough for me. (Both took over 2 days) Especially because I only had 2 perks equipped for the 90% of the game 💀 one would slowly recharge my force overtime at the cost of a lower maximum force bar. But finally beating both felt like a big accomplishment. Now I just gotta do this shit on new game+ 😭

On Jedi master bode took me hours to kill. On my second play through where I did it on grand master I beat him second try, shits crazy.

This fight did not *bode* well for the bad guy
I was able to beat Bode on my third try. I guess it was because I practiced before fighting the bastard (you know, that green motherf...). So, when the time came, I was used to dodging multiple unblockable attacks and being patient when Bode launched those delayed hits.

Surprising for me to read a lot of people didn't like the crossguard stance.
I never put it away after I unlocked it. Even respecced to max it out straight away. Went whole game crossguard+blaster.
BTW I only figured out yesterday after 50 hrs in the game that you can customize the vents' angle lol.
The crossguard has been the most difficult stance for me to get even remotely not so terrible at...

I swear his dash attack where he sticks the grenade to your chest annoyed me to no end. No matter when I dodged, he just tracks you like a missile 😂 Why I didn't think to jump I don't know lol

Dagan instantly took him down. Bode might not have been fighting with a saber but I don’t think he was holding back at all. He was still fighting for his daughter and was giving it his all. And I feel like gameplay difficulty is gonna vary for everyone so you have to look at the fight from a cut scene perspective on how it really went. Cal nearly lost that fight to Dagan too. Those high republic Jedi were something else
I don’t even think bode could’ve cleared the ISB base on his own like Cal did. He fights hard in the end sure, but Cal cleared it by using a more powerful slow. Bode doesn’t seem to have that ability
Took me 15 tries to kill Bode on mid level , and even halfway through that I felt like dropping a level , just to make it easier , but decided to stay where I was.😊

Well, i lowered difficulty after 5 tries, the fight is badly designed overall, so...
Ive just had to switch difficulty from jedi knight to story to beat this guy! That last phase i sinply dont have thr patience to spend an hour dying and repeating until i learn his patterns

Update: I just completed it in grandmaster using the blaster stance. I found the swing faster. I'll use the crossguard when he shoots his blaster and grenades. But i made it to 4 stims when his health was about 1/8th gone.
The blaster stance helped me attack faster then dodge away. Also reset my skill tree and used my skills on blaster stance, survival and the force pushing and pull one. Took away from mind control to use for blaster stance.
Crossguard is probably the most broken stance, especially with Purity. Though I’d rank it number 4 on my list, I still like it a lot and used it for about 20% of my first playthrough. If you’re wondering, my ranking is:
1. Saber Staff
2. Dual Wield
3 + 4. Single + Crossguard (here together for similar reasons: good DPH, but I like single more because it’s versatile)
5. Blaster
this fight took me about an hour of attempts on GM. had so much trouble trying to dodge his charges, when i realised you could simply jump over him it only took me a couple more attempts. felt like i personally had better luck using single blade first 2 phases and then i went crossguard last phase.
Dude this was incredible, and I came out of it confident that i could do it myself. If not rewatch and try again until i can. How many attempts did it take you to get it perfect?
Thanks! U got this, definitely a tough fight. This video took a couple hours of grind for sure. When it came out I stayed up pretty late practicing it and managed to get it, but definitely still need a lot more practice to get it 100% of the time
@@idealdojang I am gonna have another stab this weekend. I am in need of practice and am getting used to this kind of game. I am not good but am getting better - still playing on normal. But the way I see it, if you dodge and block everything and position well, difficulty does not matter - no hits suffered equals no damage on any difficulty. Keep up the good work, mate. If I move to grandmaster and do well, I will owe it to vids like this. I could watch it with no sound and stil learn.

Liked the crossguard too, but the two sword style is my preference with high speed damage and the parry window

I'm nowhere as good so I lost to him like 10 times and then I said fuck it and got some extra stim upgrades.
Came back. Was patient in my attacks and then I beat him using like only 2 stims on Jedi Master lol. Crossguard rocks

Last phase was easiest...he seemed to be slower...just have to watch out for his red force wave attack which are easy to see coming and when he goes for his leap attack he's vulnerable for a few seconds...

Telling the most powerful, badass chick in the game who can basically immobilize anyone at will to piss off from the fight and only "strike from the shadows" is so dumb.

@@meten90Cal is 23 in this game, Bode is presumably a bit older w/ Kata. Likely mid 20s to early 30s. Bode was a Knight when Cal was a Padwan during order 66. He’s probably been using a lightsaber for just as long if not longer.

It would totally make more sense if it was dagen that messed with his mind (there was even that scene where he analysed him during third fight), connected with him or something thus making him super strong.
When he force grab you, evade the next strike to the right instead of block. This is faster and easier to punish him.

I did the bode boss fight on Jedi grand master an it was so many days of suffering
Due to my foresight i lowered the difficulty from normal to padawan (after like 5 attempts) on this one, to let myself get hit a few times without consequence.
Because damn, this fight is badly designed.
Some of the unblockable have such idiotic timing requirements or position requirements it definitely would have not been worth my time pushing this on even the normal difficulty.
I found the dual wield stance to be much ezier btw, because i keep getting hit with crossguard due to not being able to dodge while swinging your blade and such.
And i also not really played the game with crossguard at all.
I’m on the same page I actually think the guy is the video is using mods to make it look so easy on grand master, a lot of the time there literally nothing I can do about getting hit

His grab attack, sometimes it doesnt have any warning. His two swipes then unblockable cant dodge it, you cant even parry it and hell stop the unblockable, you also get stunned. He does it so fast you cannot react to it its impossible to stop. This fight is such bs. This fight and the two rancors im only gonna do on story mode.
3rd phase he spams his unblockables so i cant hit him. I always get to 3rd phase

I tried the cross blade on this battle for me he moved to fast, so i went back to the single saber….and was able to beat him
After reading the comments i thinks the blaster posture is the most broken, i not surpass 2 hours in any boss fight in grandmaster 😂. Probably because of the shooting damage increase talent.

It's more about the timing, I just tried to dodge pretty much right when he sends his saber forward and shoots the shockwave and you should be able to dodge it. Just gotta get a feel for it
I did beat it yesterday using you phase 3 strategy, phase 1 and 2 I can get through somewhat reliably with twin sabers and being very aggressive on him, but that strat doesn’t work on phase 3 so I used your phase 3 strategy and beat it first try

I think there should’ve been an option at the end of this game to either have Cal stay in the Lightside or completely fall to the Darkside and have two endings, a Light Side ending and a Dark Side ending

Awesome skills.
But this fight proves why crossguard isn't a good stance. Fights take way too long and the extra power isn't an advantage when you can't attack as often to avoid leaving yourself open with those big swing animations.
If single/double was used, you'd have killed him in half the time. If dual wield was used you would've killed him even more quickly because you can parry instantly.
Thanks for watching my dude! Believe it or not I've done every stance on this guy and when it comes to no damage, crossguard was just the best. If u attack more than once or stay to close for to long there's a lot of things he can do to hit u with nothing u can do about it. So crossguard just lets u hit and run and get the most damage out of each hit. Of course it's completely different if your not worried about taking damage
