50 years later and you realize this is still the best rock and roll of the golden era.

There is no tiring of Yes music, no wearing it out. It just keeps getting better, with every listen, over every year.

Literal goosebumps, every single time, even after 45+ years

I swear that last 3 minutes might be the best 3 minutes in rock history. All the layers, the solos at the end. Even better live.

the only shame is Steve Howe brought the ending from an unknown song from his unknown band Bodast..but does not detract from it's finding the right home

Steve really shows his finger picking with a plectrum/travis picking chops in the begining and at the acoustic break. I saw him yes play this 10 + times and it still blows me away

What I increasingly feel about Yes after being a fan for many years, is how great Bill Bruford's drumming is. It's so smooth🙂. Keep on with Yes, endlessly rewarding.

Great review. Brings me back to my childhood. Jon Anderson's voice is unmistakable, and there is just something about it...that touches me deep down inside. Love YES. One of those bands...underappreciated...by many. An acquired taste for sure...but once acquired...it is like fine wine, and French/Italian/Spanish, smelly cheese. Nothing else like it.

The live versions of this song and Yours Is No Disgrace from the same album, wow, you should really hear that.

What can I say? Yes at their peak (which is most of the time) are simply celestial ❤ Your reaction as always is spot on. Much of Yes music is led by the GOAT of bass Chris Squire RIP.
I must rewatch your Close to the Edge later. If you have a spare 23 mins and minds to be blown, there is always Gates of Delirium ❤❤❤❤

I found your Close to the Edge. I always find your reactions to he genuine and authentic. Loved seeking that again. Gates of Delirium is brilliant but why not delve deeper into 80s Yes? Many gems to unearth ❤❤❤

As a long-term Yes fan, I first heard this song live at the Yale Bowl in 1971 when they were the third sting band to Grand Funk when Grand Funk was the biggest band in the world...Yes stole the show..none of us had never heard this type of music before except for maybe Pink Floyd and early Genesis. My initial thoughts after listening to Yes for 50 years was to place Close To the Edge as their best album...that has now changed. Now I think their "Yes " album is their best because it broke so much new ground...just listen to Starship Trooper, Your's Is No Disgrace, Perpetual Change, and I've Seen All Good People...each one a classic rock song on the same album! In my opinion, other than the Beatles, Yes is the most musically talented band in rock history. When you go to TH-cam and watch their lie concerts you'll see why...forget the "Yessongs" album...it is far inferior to other live versions.

I often think of YES as the Prog equivalent of free form Jazz , one or two tracks absolutely become modern classics but the rest is very much an acquired taste . I have no ear whatsoever for jazz , I find it boring to the point of being painful and that’s how I feel this and other tracks by YES . How on earth can it be the same band who produced the all time classic Roundabout ? … I’m not blaming YES for this and other dirges , I’m the problem ! My brain isn’t wired to accept Starship Trooper as a legitimate banger , I don’t hear the melody or hook that drags you in and keeps you there wanting more .
So before you die hard YES fans furiously set the hounds on me , let me explain that I’m a genuine music lover but my natural habitation is in the Punk genre , which I’m prepared to bet is anathema to many who love this track . So live and let live eh ? 👀

Yes are amazing up until they went a bit overly keyboardish. This LP is excellent though.

The first five albums are awesome 👌 & then came the bloated Tales From Topagraphic Oceans ( 4 15 minute songs ) & Relayer with new age guy Patrick Moraz on synth. Like the 80's comeback album that Trevor Horn Produced with Owner Of A Lonely Heart .. 90125.
