Love the interaction between them. Tal Wilkenfeld on bass ... Jeff was always joking around and when this young unknown girl showed up at his door to audition for the 2007 tour, he thought it was a joke., he quickly found out that she wasn't a joke and started to compare to one of the greatest Bass players. He became her mentor and he and his wife treated her like a daughter so much so that everybody thought she was. Even Wikipedia.had to be corrected. It's funny when you said how familiar Jeff Beck looks, like maybe you've seen him in films? Well, if you've ever seen "This Is Spinal Tap" then you were close. Christopher Guest, who played Tap lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel based Tufnel on Beck, right down to the haircut, sleeveless shirts and seriously loud guitar playing (the Marshall amp scene: "These go up to 11" 🤣). Comic brilliance and the perfect parody! And yeah, Beck was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Loved this band with Tal & Vinnie. Glad you've discovered another legend.

Imagine just discovering Jeff Beck, huh... so Beck is one of the original guitar Gods. He was in the Yardbirds after Eric Clapton left (1965), and brought in his good buddy Jimmy Page (who would go on to form a little band called Led Zeppelin afterwards). Clapton could only play blues solos... because Beck had not yet come along and pretty much invented the modern rock guitar solo.
The man's influence (not exactly control, because he's always intentionally slightly out of control) over what's going on with the guitar is unparalleled. Note how he's modulating the tone by using the volume control and myriad finger techniques in addition to, as you noted, the constant use of the whammy bar (that's what most call it, the technical term is a tremolo bar). He's pretty much inventing all of that on the spot, other versions of these pieces can sound distinctly different.
A guitar player's guitarist. He haunted small venues for most of his career, never really striving for fame, but just doing his thing with some of the greatest players out there. He is tremendously missed.

Some Vintage Jeff Beck here .
This "Live At Ronnie Scott's" is arguably Beck's finest compilation .
Doesn't hurt to have all timers in his ensemble - which characterized Jeff's long career : Maestro Vinnie Colauita at the Drumkit , Tal at the Bass , and Keyboardist Jason Rebello (& other Cameo performers Eric Clapton & Joss Stone) .
Beck's ability to find the tones/timbres/colors - Between the notes - set him apart from perhaps more technically brilliant guitarists .
The intimate setting is the perfect venue .

For a good example of one of Beck's guitar techniques, see "Where Were You" from this same gig, where he uses the whammy bar to play melodies with harmonics. After his 1965-66 stint with the Yardbirds, and 2 Jeff Beck Groups with vocalists, his next albums showed the influence of fusion's Mahavishnu Orchestra. The drummer of that band, Billy Cobham, had "Stratus" on his first solo album, and Beck had Jan Hammer of that same band play on his next few albums.

Tal was in her early 20's when she played this gig with Beck and Calaiuto. She's in her mid-to late 30's I believe now, and has only gotten better. The death of Beck, I have no doubt, left her shattered. He was so much of a mentor to her, and in many ways, a second dad. I believe she has expressed that opinion about him in interviews with her. So in a sense, you were correct in thinking she was his "daughter. 😀

I also wanted to mention something that a drummer friend of mine pointed out and that is that Vinnie is a polyrhythmic drummer. So for instance while he is playing one rhythm on the snare etc he is playing a totally different one with his feet. I have no clue how rare or common that is but it boggles my mind and I never would have noticed. "Stratus" is by Billy Cobham, that's why it is often chosen by those jazz bands who want to brag about their drummer.
My favourite version is by Senri Kawaguchi: th-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nhInPLmaJRgg2BoX
She was 18 at the moment, and from that performance, you may understand why many people say she is currently the best jazz drummer active in the world. Akane is the best drummer in rock, and Senri, in jazz. That's my two favourite drummers.

Jeff was one of the all-time greats, absolutely love Tal too, this performance was the first I had seen her, and every performance at Ronny Scotts is great. Check out Tommy Bolin a guitarist you likely never heard of who not only was the genius behind the original Stratus th-cam.com/video/bRkW3qwXdYI/w-d-xo.html but Jeff had acknowledged that Tommy was one of his inspirations for Jeff getting into fusion in the firs place. Tommy died young at 25, but left behind a pretty incredible rock music catalog but could and did play any genre. I believe I read somewhere that Billy Cobham the drummer and whose album it was just let Tommy go where he wanted. I know Tommy did not read music. Then if you are into a great rock guitarist, singer song writer from the 70's that too few people know, get on down that Tommy rabbit hole and you will need a long rope to climb back out, but you won't be sorry.

Tal is not his daughter, but she did live with Jeff and his wife for a while. She came alone from Australia to LA. when she was fifteen. Jeff was looking for a bass player for an upcoming tour. His drummer Vinny brought her to an audition. Jeff thought there was no way this eighteen year old could be very seasoned. He realized his mistake quickly when Tal would point out some of his errors.

Ah yes, the Ronnie Scott's gig. Great band, although the keyboards are largely superfluous (sorry, Jason) on several tracks.
Jeff Beck was the only 'guitar hero' from the 60s who continued to surprise. It's not just his progression through a series of genres and styles down the years, his playing was surprising in the sense that you seldom knew where he was going from moment to moment. He obviously picked his phrasing carefully but also kept improvising enough to keep things interesting for himself.
I think I first took notice of his work on Donovan's Goo Goo Barabajagal and only later realised that the advanced Yardbirds' stuff of yore was largely his doing, I'm also very fond of his second solo album Beck-Ola. Lee might like the fact that it contains a pleasingly large dosage of Nicky Hopkins!
