Idk why do I put tape on my fingerboard, and I don't even look at it. I'm just focused at my bow when it goes somewhere. Btw it's my 3rd week of practice.
You know, yours is the FIRST and ONLY video I have seen with progress shown from a true beginner with honesty! There are many out there that claim to be beginners, and aren't. This is a TRUE representation of this process. It isn't easy! Thank you so much. ❤
get rid of those finger placement tape marks. Listen to the note, hear if it's right or wrong, don't rely on your eyes to tell you if you're playing right, they're not listening to the music.
Tapes are too train your ear so you can hear the right notes and learn to correct yourself I had tapes on and got them off at the same time but if your ear is not trained to the violin you could get bad intonation problems if you don't learn correctly
i fell into this problem myself.. was learning also completley without a music teacher and got used to a tuner.. man.. MAN.... MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN.. i would be so much further if i knew this before.
Hi, you're clearly enjoying to play the violin. You've made great progress, very nice to see your video. And I really like your song choices. Good luck in year 2! :-)
This is my first year, and within a month I went from the last seat in second violin, to the third seat in first violin lol, over that, I can do the vibrato too. But the thing is, your video and many others have inspired and motivated me to keep playing the violin, because believe me, I wanted to quit within the first week, so what I'm saying is, thank you.
You have made decent progress overall but you gotta work on your bowing. You need to use full bow and try shifts with that. Right wrist needs to be more fluid. Your left hand is good and intonation is a strong point. Gotta work on finger speed, slur, staccato. Practisr at varying speed to build up technique.
Thanks for your help! I knew my bowing was incorrect but it helps a lot to have someone with an outside view writing down precisely all the elements that I need to work on! Thanks :)
I used to do orchestra, playing the violin, but had to drop it. I've been wanting to pick up the instrument again, and seeing your video gives me inspiration. ❤️
To be fair, in addition to the fact that everyone progresses at a different rate, he may be practicing at a different rate (as in hours per day/week) which may make a difference. Regardless keep plugging! :)
Great progress! Make sure you make the most of your new carbon fibre bow by using the lower half near the frog. You are playing mostly in the upper half, and by utilising the whole bow you'll achieve a clearer and more confident sound. Keep with it! 🎻
Same, in every violin video I love watching violinists' spidery hand movements on the board.. And all the notes are so in tune!! Then I try and I am out of tune and my hand is like made of wood 🙄🙄
yeah, just ensure as u play between the bars and the bridge especially fast song, your bow is slightly facing the bridge and maintain that direction as you play :))) you're most welcomed btw :D
I just started (lesson 6 now), and never had them, trust me: you don't need them, as a result I just adapt to a violin that is larger or smaller, I'm even able to play the same stuff on a viola
@@UnderTheBamboooTree during my first year, one of my favorite thing to do was play the pieces I studied on kid violins (1/2 and 1/4). It was really funny.
I PLAYED THE LAST SONG IN MY ORCHESTRA THIS YEAR!!! Kinda had trouble recognizing it since I’m a viola and I’m not used to the violin part lol. Such a pretty song and also AMAZING PROGRESS!!!
Great job! I know people may have already commented on this, but make sure you practice proper right arm posture for improved bowing. i can assure you, good bowing technique is essential to making your pieces sound more enhanced and the notes not too scratchy. Get Sevcik's Op. 2 (various parts) to ameliorate those bad bowing habits. Also, one important tip....loosen that right hand wrist! It looks too stiff!
I don't agree with Anival, I believe you are doing great, and have a lot of talent, keep going, I have been playing the violin for 15+ yrs and started in my 50's not as a young person, so I congratulate you, you are really special.
It's difficult to play the violin well. I'm trying to play well for about a year or so. I don't need tapes anymore and sometimes I play by ear but I have several problems with bowing and no vibrato yet. Good luck on your journey.
I've been playing for a month and a half, just got a carbon fiber bow which feels amazing compared to the trainer one I was using. Playing the violin is so much fun, I just don't put more than a few hours a week practicing. Oh and I don't know how to read music so I'm kind of learning that as i go.
GREAT JOB!! To improve your vibrato, remove the 1st knuckle from the neck. It allows for more freedom of movement. You can probably take the tape off of the neck now? Third position? Continue and you'll be happy you did.
Thanks for all the good advices :) I have tried to do all of what you just told me, works pretty well :) Starting third position now. Many thanks to you!
Try to use your pinky. Also try that the neck of your violin rests on the left side of your thumb, instead of thighting the neck with it. I like the way you let the music to flow.
I've started learning the violin 3 months ago and it really helps to see videos like this! how many hours a week do you practice? Looking forward for the 2 years progress video.
Very good. Like you I started to learn using the frets to mark only 1st and 3rd fingers positions. Then when my new teacher asked me to remove it to learn to make good notes relying on my ears instead of my eyes I lost completely the little sense of good notes making I had. I restarted all from scratch when removed my frets. But I do not regret it because using fret on a fret less instrument reach limitations when you need to read the sheet music simply because you do not know by heart or simply if you want to play with other people a new piece. Good luck for year 2
It's ok, but I strongly recommend you to find a violin teacher. If someone doesn't correct your mistakes and bad habits, you will never be able to master the violin, or reach an decent level at least.I guess you have lot of desire of keeping learning, and that's very important but...FIND A TEACHER!!! [No one in history has master the violin without an instructor, not even the virtuosos, not even Paganini]
Pablo Nicolás González If you are talking about Paganini then I must say you are totally mistaken. When he was a youth he studied at Parma with some violinists like Paer, also he studied composition for several years. Anyway, the very first teacher he had was his own father. Violin is a very technical instrument, there are a lot of details which can,t be learnt using intuition or watching videos, so an experienced teacher is compulsory to correct mistakes and keep on improving.
@@indiapeete4617 except that we must know that from generation to generation the violinists have better and better play simply because the knowledge on the instruments were better and therefore the instructor also. Among the "very first" violinist none was as good as the virtuoso nowadays.
Everyone who had the idea to make recommendations to this player should post their own video of their own playing so we know you can take your own advice. This guy put his skill on video for all to see. All of these people making suggestions to him have not put their skill on display like he has. Before you criticize put yourself on display and put a link to your own playing in your suggestion. Otherwise it is just talk.
Great job!!! Don't worry about the tapes man it's all good. Great intonation. Your left hand looks great: nice level wrist. Solid bow grip. Playing in the right part of the bow. Nice bow arm mechanics. You've been given a lot of lame advice in the comments unfortunately. I would move on to getting more comfortable playing in the mid-part of the bow, and experimenting with bow speed and weight.
You have really good progress for a year! But you need to start removing those tapes. You can't rely on them forever! Besides, with the amount of practice you've had, I'm pretty sure you have physically remembered the proper placings. Also, make sure you bow closer to the bridge. It gives off a better sound that way!
Im 12 and been playing violin since I was 8 but, you should keep your wrist not so firm so then when you have to move up and down on The finger board it won’t be much trouble
I can see that you have made great progress in fact I gan go farther and say that after one year you sound better then me my first two or three years great job!

2. Relax your wrist.
3. Practice lot of scale.

Good luck.
