In recent research, scientists have been investigating a method called "decoded neurofeedback." They used brain scanners to monitor the activity in the visual cortex while participants looked at specific objects. The participants then carried out unrelated mental tasks without knowing that they were associated with the observed patterns. As time passed, the participants became better at identifying specific object orientations without being consciously aware of it. Although this subliminal approach may not be as dramatic as the learning depicted in "The Matrix," it has the potential to eventually improve skill acquisition. Further research indicates that the human brain may operate on a different learning principle compared to artificial neural networks. Instead of directly modifying synaptic connections, the brain initially arranges neuron activity into an optimal configuration before making adjustments. This efficient process helps retain existing knowledge, thereby accelerating the learning process. Moreover, variability among brain cells might contribute to faster learning. Studies have shown that altering the electrical properties of individual cells can enhance learning.

Unfortunately many people don’t have a “calling”. And if given more free time, they are loosing even more purpose; they will be more lost, out raged, toxic, and depressed. People need to work to find purpose in life and avoid boredom and it’s unintended consequences.
Honestly I wouldn’t mind robotics and AI taking over the super laborious, repetitive, and boring tasks that the more unfortunate people have to do like as in a factory worker, admin offices, tax accountants etc. Boredom has been around since the ancient times of the human race. We’ve come far from first inventing the wheel, but mankind’s boredom, unhappiness, yearnings and competitive greedy nature are still thriving and has never been understood. I think most intelligent people appreciate the raw nature of the universe and earth that was not man-made and will always be the most enticing mystery that AI or any other tech can never be a match to. Ai and private blockchains I think will bring a harmonious future for us because nobody can get scammed like we’ve been scamming for centuries by middle men of businesses, lawyers, banks (including any nation’s government fattening themselves from their people!). The only way to get rid of ‘feeling lost’, bored, rage or depression is to see what thoughts are contributing to this sense of emptiness and to see we are not our thoughts, that we ourselves have a programmed virus telling us that we have to work hard to get any money. Maybe that emptiness is the source of all creation. When Jesus said to work by the “sweat of our brow”, perhaps he meant to ‘think’ about our human troubles very deeply, “know thyself”, to love. I’m not sure love is here on this planet in mankind’s heart. If it were, there would be no wars. Wars are for the very rich to stay rich while young people get maimed and slaughtered fighting for richman’s business deal.
Work if you want. Other like minded folks will form to offer objects and services they believe will make life better for most number pf people the most amount of time. There won't be anything that couldn't be experienced. Spending time in virtual reality will allow incredible experiences that would feel like, but not be dangerous to attempt. Discovering a passion and engaging in many interests while increasing knowledge and skills throughout ones life is compelling.
Nah, I'd argue most people today don't have the luxury to even look for their calling. I know too many people working way too much just to survive. They don't even have the time to think about searching for their calling / purpose. And I also know friends who KNOW what they want to do in life but they can't due to having to work to survive. So I don't think it's even fair to make your argument when most people don't even have the OPTION. Once they have the option / freedom / time and if they still can't find their calling / purpose, then your argument may have a point.
Theme Nights: Every couple of weeks, you can enjoy a new theme night where you celebrate foods, music, and movies from different regions and cultures. You can have dinner in front of the TV, explore a new hobby together, or even make your own homemade movie. Sensory Experiences: Pay attention to your senses. Slow down and savor tastes, smells, sensations, and sounds. Whether it's trying a new agua fresca flavor or enjoying gelato, let food enhance your memories. Firsts: Take advantage of opportunities for "firsts". Visit a new place every year, explore local parks, restaurants, or hidden back roads. Take a class together to learn something new and share the memory of learning.

Shifting from Occupation to Vocation will historically liberate the humans species from the drudgery of thier human labour. Therefore, my question is, if given a chance, will the Chinese people like to live in a democratic countries like US and Europe or still prefer to live in the political system of thier country?
@@alvin.w.graylin I've seen the products of some of that "research". Companies re-packaging ChatGPT resulting in its "netizens" confused over how badly it translates Mandarin. "Sara A.I" at a Huawei booth being a Thai girl with a microphone. Image-generators used for overly-saturated propaganda posts on social media. The world is getting less and less fooled by such fakery. The fields of "rotting" EVs show just how much of a grain of salt that any raw numbers coming out of China must be taken with. Having the biggest number of something doesn't mean that is a meaningful number. It's just done to fake being in a leading position to trick investors.
@@vallab19 (looks like my reply to alvin disappeared, maybe will stay replying here instead) The problem with A.I research in China is it very much isn't vibrant. It's heavily subsidized by their government because they see it as a way to show they're a leader in tech, but they've done the same thing with 5G and "green technology" and so on with the same result: companies cutting corners and just faking progress instead. LLMs that are actually re-packaged "western" models. "Sara A.I" demo actually being a lady with a microphone. Intel chips lasered to erase their identifying info and replaced with fake info. Hong Kong's protesters very much give you the answer of whether they would rather be democratic like "the west".

The argument that with intelligence and that AI being intelligent means that it will have wisdom is a HUGELY flawed premise. Having loads of data and being intelligent does not necessarily mean that such data or intelligence will be used wisely. Wisdom is created through consistent experience with the data/information/intelligence that is given. AI can be programmed by what a human thinks is a wise choice and it can spit that out but AI (as well as we as human itself can only be able to have wisdom through experience (ie trial and error with said intelligence/information) to know if something is wise. Wisdom requires the capacity to make thoughtful, contemplative choices, with virtues/values/ethics/common sense, experiential self knowledge, understanding of complicated situations, self transcendence, unbiased judgment, and understanding (thereby making AI conscious and sentient) all of which AI may be programmed to do by what a human tells it to do (ie imitate or simulate such) BUT is unable to conjure such on its own of its own volution as humans do. AI can view the list of possible scenarios that are programmed into it by a human and spit out what may be the best choice out of that but AI is incapable of conjuring its own thoughts therefore does not have the ability to make thoughtful contemplative choices nor does it have understanding within complicated situations (it can only give the list of possible scenarios but it is free from understanding them as we humans understand) ergo is incapable of having wisdom. You don't know any knowledgeable people who are super corrupt you said? Hmmm....so I suppose Stalin, Hitler just to name a couple were dumb then? From what I know and understand both were quite knowledgeable and both super corrupt!
The whole thing about working with China on any of this is flawed in general. They've faked all their own A.I advancements (their "Sara A.I" at a Huawei booth was faked with a girl there talking into a microphone, their ChatGPT clone couldn't understand Mandarin...because it WAS just a re-packaged ChatGPT, etc.) and tend to focus on military/propaganda applications of the tech instead. They're already using image-generators to fake views of areas in China (which they've already done through heavy photo-shopping, but it is done a lot faster now with A.I), and we're meant to encourage their development of it...?

My hyper-specific predictions for the next 5 or so years: "Pokémon GO" will be the first app to bring AR glasses to mass appeal. It will be hugely popular; every other person you know will have an AI Pokémon "pet", this will lead to "FOMO" and everyone will want a pair of AR glasses so that they can see one another's Pokémon. People will have augmented reality digital human AGI friends, which will include, but will not be limited to, historical figures, and popular fictional characters. At first they will be AR illusions, but after a year or two, people will augment these digital "skins" over embodied humanoid robots. Wanna go bowling with George Washington? No problem. "Westword" style LARP theme parks will take off in a big way, utilising the above technology, but also using augmented reality to create elaborate set dressing that is out of physical reach (like the tops of tall statues, trees and buildings), and special effects, like magic lightning bolts, dragons flying about in the sky, explosions, etc. Women will no longer apply make up physically, but will instead apply AR beauty face filters.
Come on guys, unless you closely monitor AGI as it emerges you cannot know with certainty what it will do with the whole human lexicon of knowledge and history. The hair on your neck should be standing on end as it is on my neck when thinking how quickly and unpredictably this is unfolding. Elon’s noble intent to make sure it is truth seeking and fact based might help but there are too many players from which to mess it up.
But... The lack of human contact with other humans and nature is causing serious problems. Or is it only the algorithms causing these problems? Whatever, the algos need to be fixed to reach your vision of abundance. If not, we're headed for dystopia.
I own the meta quest 3. It is not as problematic as the rift. But it still is disturbing. Something is wrong. The lenses just do not feel real. You become confused. Disturbed. Immediately after putting the headset on. It feels a little like wearing wrong glasses. No headset out there is free of this. So therefore i just can not stay in vr too. Long. No matter if i just sit still. Once i put on the headset it feels bad. Immediately. And i LOVE VR. But it just messes me up. Really, really, really messes with your head. There is nothing i can do. This technology is therefore FAR from being perfect. The biggest problem is that it makes you confused and physically unwell. No one will ever " enter the metaverse " as long VR is as flawed as that. I would be in VR all the time. If i could. I can not. It makes me puke
The apple product will fail like the apple Newton. It has to be more practical. Smaller like wearing a pair of glasses. I tried one out with my 13 yo daughter. She wasn’t impressed and said “silly”.
So for most of this podcast you are convincing us how wonderful it is to be in a metaverse and have these virtual glasses on etc and then at the end you say that parents should limit video games because they can be addicting and only provide value short term? Hmmmm....talk about contradictory! And not only that but you are making the case for what I and others have said on here about virtual metaverse is not of value!
The host also mentions about "democratisation" of the technology.....with China, a country without democracy. (even going so far as to try re-defining what the word "democracy" means, to pretend that they have it since it's become synonymous with successful countries by this point) Can't really work with those companies there, given their history of completely self-serving business practices of stealing from/undercutting every given industry. Nothing but red flags there.
I lived in both China and U.S. the last 18 years… I’m likely more aware of what happens in China than most. Don’t believe everything you read in the media…

Unfortunately many people don’t have a “calling”. And if given more free time, they are loosing even more purpose; they will be more lost, out raged, toxic, and depressed. People need to work to find purpose in life and avoid boredom and it’s unintended consequences.
*losing
❤ this video other than noooo I don’t want to struggle , I rather do stuff where the path opens up more easily the more I do
This topic gives me an “ick” feeling when I consider infants and children and their needs for brain development. Parents need to be 100% present. Period.
1:05:51 a scientific calculator from 1976 AD is still a thousand times faster at doing a lot of longer equations and makes far fewer errors than I and I don't see any reason for me to figure out how to do all that in my head.
Happiness should be something that everything alive should be able to enjoy and share freely and infinitely without any cost. Mankind has struggled, forever, to cover the cost of happiness with worldly possessions becoming clannish and distrustful along the way. It hasn't worked for most, sadly. Let us trust that humankind has the ability and, now more than ever, the potential tools to turn this dilemma around.
Have you seen the movie ATLAS with J.Lo? Corny movie, but I’m sure it’s telling us what’s to come! And wanting us to gain trust in AI 🤖
Peter please listen to the podcast The Cipher on bbc sounds
🙄.... seriously when billions of people no long are need or required by the state or the hyperweathlty it is not going to be pleasant.
DeAI on ICP Dfinity doesn’t require centralized computer cloud while providing consumer protection for civilization not wanting data harvesting or malicious Terminator attack robots.
Where is Terrance Howard 🤣
I own a quest 3. Its fantastic. Its much clearer than the quest 2 and yiu have great experiences and gaming with it.
HTC a leading company? mm ok...
I’ve created hundreds of Metaverse spaces for a wide variety of use cases. I’m throwing a rave June 30th celebrating Pride month. At Radio by Altered Alley on Spatial.
Ai jobloss or human 2.0? Maybe. But with swell robotics everywhere, Ai jobloss is the only thing I worry about anymore. Anyone else feel the same? Should we cease Ai?
I think its a cop out saying people aren't taking the actions to protect themselves, the company created the environment, they make the money, they dictate how it works, it is 100% the companies responsibility to keep its users safe or true accountability would be the company's closure. Stop blaming your users for your poor exploitation of them.
Shifting from Occupation to Vocation will historically liberate the humans species from the drudgery of thier human labour.
It is good to hear that around 1/3 AI researchers in US is from China but the tragedy is there is almost nil percentage of AI researchers able to work in China tells us something.
FYI, China has a vibrant AI research community. They are behind the US, but not by that far. There’s as much if not more AI papers coming out of China than any other country.
@@alvin.w.graylin I agree about the AI research in China. However my problem is, about its authoritarian political system that most of us will not prefer to live our lives.
@@Vaeldarg Yes, your views on China seems to reflect the reality of thier technological progress.
I think the reason Americans use more energy and are less happy than the Europeans is because we have to drive longer distances for everything we do and need. Road rage has become a common trait of the American culture.
Everyone talks about abundance, but if we aren’t working, and we don’t have our jobs then how are we gonna afford to do all these fun exciting things that we now have time to do. For the super rich it doesn’t affect you and for the companies creating this or they’re only gonna get wealthier but what about everyone else. We haven’t had time to, acclimate to the ideal of joblessness. I think most people talking about this are pretty much the wealthy or someone who’s going to get wealthy from this technology
They're already using image-generators to fake views of areas in China (which they've already done through heavy photo-shopping, but it is done a lot faster now with A.I), and we're meant to encourage their development of it...?
i want to be much more smarter than an average today human so i can understand more and more of the universe. I want to be able to assimilate any kind of knowledge at a very quick rate. I understand this is not what everybody wants, but its the end goal, so i want eventually to merge with AI, or at least giving me "more compute" like i dont know, more brain infraestructure that I use instead of an AI? i dont know how it would work but you know what i mean
Peter, you really should grow beard.
Ai personal conscience/right choice maker agent named Jiminy cricket would be awesome….. maybe a AI agent called shoulder angel…..😏
You heard it here first ….. you’re welcome
My hyper-specific predictions for the next 5 or so years:
"Pokémon GO" will be the first app to bring AR glasses to mass appeal.
No one said that!
Devices are not the problem. I have a quest 3 and it's fine as a device. The Programms and Games just suck
I think the team at Apple agrees but wishes the platform out there so that it is mature by the time that size/weight is possible.
Of course, his family is in China, right? He cannot be so dumb with regards what happens in China
I lived in both China and U.S. the last 18 years… I’m likely more aware of what happens in China than most. Don’t believe everything you read in the media…

Read the book. Your questions are explained in detail. FYI, I come from very humble beginnings and get no personal benefit from the technology we’re discussing. Also, the book is structured as a debate so both the optimistic and pessimistic views are covered.
