  • In this build, I start with a bike that had been roughed up and changed for the worse and turn it in to a beautiful three speed British bike. Countless hours have gone in to this build so these 30 minutes are only a small snapshot in to what's gone on.
    Hope you enjoy.

    I’ve never been one for gold on a bicycle, but the pin-striping around the lugs gave the frame some life. Beautiful set of wheels there.👍🏼👍🏼

    My favourite Monkeyshred resto video, interesting project, and great format showing loads of interesting info.
    Can't understand how I'm seeing almost a year later for the first time.

    I can't believe someone painted a BSA Bermuda yellow, as you said the original colour is the sunset red you found on the forks that had remained untouched. That red is one of the most amazing colours ever to be put on a bicycle. You did a great job on rescuing it as must as you could, can't believe they did that.

      Thank you. It was a real nice bike. I rode it for Eroica last year on the 60 mile course - it got lots of compliments. Getting it up the hills was super tough though!

    Any idea if the dynamo still worked afterwards? Apparently the magnet looses it's magnetism after being separated from the other part.

    Nice job! I'm doing a similar BSA at the moment and am wondering how to remove the chrome trim on the forks. Also where do you obtain a new badge from on the steering head, and get the transfers from? (I'm in New Zealand)

    Watched a few vids and have subscribed. I really like your style and this is exactly the kind of thing I'd be doing if I had the time. I see you often have trouble focussing on things; it's because often your background is too busy. You should try to put the parts or frame against a more neutral background and your camera will have less difficulty picking out what you're interested in.

    Does that chain wheel have a little man on it riding bike at 6:07 in the video if so do you know what manufacturer they are, iv got a few components with a similar engraving on and with little IR logo as well, would love some info on them.

    Currently doing one of these myself, any idea what diameter the pulley wheel guide assembly is? 1 inch or 1-1/8 inch?

    I have the same spoke wrench as you, I find it a bit fiddly, do you have any of the single fitting park ones with the coloured handled?

      Unfortunately not Robert, just that small Cyclo one. I do find it pings off from time to time as I adjust the tension.

    What is the hub on the first green bike that you bring out from garage? The sound from the hub is amazing.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh wow. I had to check to see what it was. That was my first ‘proper’ mountain bike. My first bike project circa 2010. It had a Halo rear wheel but that’s about as much as I remember. I think both the rim and hub were Halo.

    Love your work, mate, Just wondering what sort of acid you use to remove the rust, couldn't quite catch what you said -
    hosculic acid? oxholic? must be Oxalic, yeah?

    Is putting the front brake handle on the right side just a personal preference? Or are all bikes like that where you live?

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a UK thing. Not exactly sure where it stems from but I think it's something to do with motorbikes. Left hand operates the clutch and ride hand operates the throttle so it made sense to put the front brake on the right too. I guess that transferred over to bicycles.

    • @plumbingstuffinoregon2471
      @plumbingstuffinoregon2471 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MonkeyShred That makes sense, every bike that I've ever owned has the back breaks on the right side though.

    Is this an integrated gear bike? Otherwise why would the shifter be for?

      It is indeed. 3 speed internal gearing.

    Nice work! Never throw away a frame just give it some new paint and it looks like new! How much did you pay for them to powdercoat it?

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one was £60 because it had the mudguards and chain guard. Normally I just pay £40 for the frame and forks.

    Where did you get the tyres from and do not seperate the magnets on a dynohub as it messes up the magnetic field that is needed to produce power

    What kind of a truing stand is that? I have been shopping for one. I don't like any of the ones I have seen. This one is excellent.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jeff. It was pretty much just one that I found on eBay that a guy had made himself. He'd designed them and laser cut all the pieces. It's not completely accurate (bit of flex in the frame) but it's easy to use and accurate enough for me (a wheel building beginner) to use.

    • @trimmerman1
      @trimmerman1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MonkeyShred I thought it looked handmade. I straighten some pretty ugly wheels. If the micro-gauges move at all you might as well just use the bike for truing. I'll see if that guy is still in production. Thanks for the info. :)

    Just like the step thru models, there are a lot of bikes available in reasonable shape that are among the largest frame sizes for some one taller than six feet or taller. Of course there are a lot of bowmen living in the UK. I am only five seven and have frequently been dissapionted in finding these beautifuly preserved bikes only way to big for me.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel your pain. I see plenty of gorgeous bikes that I'd like to build for myself but rarely find the 21" frame that I'm after

    I can't believe how you messed-up the brake and shift cables on the top tube,the brake lever and grip placement show no understanding of ergonomics.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I rode it 60 miles in Eroica and didn't have any issues with the brakes or grips. Maybe the shifter... that was a bit out of place.

    • @larrydaniels6532
      @larrydaniels6532 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MonkeyShred The cables should be routed so that they don't cross over one another,much cleaner looking and indicates a greater attention to detail.The ergonomic comment refers to the grips and brake levers mounted horizontally.With the bars selected,the grips and levers should at least be at a 45 degree angle with level (think of a line from the shoulders when riding to the bars).your placement makes sense if your shoulders are on the top tube.For bars that have more curvature so that the hands are nearly parallel,then the grips and levers are pointed to the ground.I said all this with no animosity,I've been at this for far longer than you have been on earth and hope that the criticism will help to take your builds to the next level.I would love to see a video of you transforming your shop area (as it is now,very visually distracting),tear everything out and cover walls with plywood,build a new bench,repair and paint the floor.Paint the walls a light color and arrange all of your tools on the wall to be more easily accessed.Keep up the good work.

    The only weak parts on these bikes are break calipers.They are cheap and do a terrible job.Almost all English bikes of that era and next 20yrs are fitted with those crap shoots.
