A RWS is disadvantageous in tank on tank combat, as US Army officials themselves pointed out after NATO manouvers in Poland. The RWS on the turret gives away the position of the tank in a hull down position, since there are quite some components above the commander sight height, which in optimal case should be the highes point of the tank to fully utilize a hull down position. The issue was adressed in the latest Abrams variant fielding a lower profile RWS than the initial CROWS, but it isn't quite perfect yet.
