This theme just brings me back, my dad in his chair, my brother on the couch, my mom in the background. They're all passed on now, but for a moment, they're beside me once again.
This was my grandfathers favorite show. He passed before I was born. My grandmother never liked the show, but whenever it came on she would listen to the theme song before changing the channel. I didn’t understand until later, but she was probably just living through the memories as you and I are today.

In the 90s when I was a kid I’d always watch Rugrats, then Nick at Nite would start and Brady Bunch would play, sometimes Cheers. Then this would come on and I’d turn the tv off.. 😂
This song and intro is deep in my subconscious, from childhood. It always meant "time to turn the tv off". I hated it. I feel I should go back as an adult and see what this show was all about.
This show took place in a Mobile Army Surgical hospital or MASH. It’s a great show with emotion and a lot of cheeky/dark humor. Something needed to keep your sanity in a war. A number of themes paralleled somewhat to the Vietnam war throughout the series, being a seemingly unwindable war. And trying to keep your spirits up. one of the episodes even depicts McCarthyism(related to the red scare). Many episodes, I miss watching this with my grandma so much! It’s regarded by many as one of the best shows of all time and of its era.
Honestly, even though this show was meant to be comical, I still think that from all shows about wartime, they at times portrayed the very gruesome, dark and confusing situations to a very realistic degree, paired with the lighter moments to also show how without humor, you would probably be unable to cope with all the horrible things you see in such a situation. My mom watched this show a lot and allowed me to watch along and at times explained stuff about the actual war and it's crazyness, and in social studies and history lessons in high school, I also learned about it and it was at times almost weird to see a television show having pictured some of the things that happened there being described that realistic (even though sometimes with different locations or people involved) that I sort of knew what some of the key moments I had already seen in the series due to the enormous amount of casualties they caused.
In the early 90's Every night, my parents would watch American's Funniest Home Videos, then Mash would come on after. Like everyone else, that was time for my sister and I to go to sleep. This theme song is like a strangely nostalgic lullaby.

This Intro is so beautiful and bittersweet because of the seriousness of the subject....The Field Care of Wounded and dying Soldiers. Yes, you have beautiful nurses but as illustrated here and in reality, they were all concerned about those men that were coming in on the seemingly endless flight of choppers from field.
I honestly have always been surprised how much blood they actually showed at times, this series did not kid around in that department (I sometimes watched the reruns in my country that aired everyday at 4:30 PM I think, because my mom watched it a lot)

This show originally aired in Cleveland on channel 8 which was CBS back then Indians are primarily on cable now but they still air a few games on broadcast TV now it's channel 3 that airs games 20th Century Fox, which owns MASH is being sold to Disney so I wouldn't mind a reboot on ABC, but this version of the theme music should be retained for such a show because no re-recording can do it justice.

Honestly, I was once told that ducking down when walking up towards one was not about the danger of getting caught in the rotor (though the instinct of fearing a collision might prompt you to do so) but due to the enormous air pressure of the rotors cutting through the air which, when landed is not as big as when they are getting off the ground, but was still very uncomfortable on your ears, and since ear protection like either those foam-roller-push-in things were not around back then, I think that might be one of the reasons. Next to that, some TV shows and movies might not even use actual helicopters anymore, but green boxes full of calibration markers so a camera movement can make software track a virtual helicopter later added in. I was at the IBC (basically what E3 is for computer games is what the IBC is for broadcast-equipment and software) in 2010 once and there they already showed multiple NCIS clips that took place in huuuuge green-screen studios with the walls full of calibration markers for the software to track. The "ambulance" the actors crawled out of was a big green block with 2 doors that sort of resembled the later virtual ambulance.
Ah the days where tv was the best thing ever. No phones, no internet(which would suck but who cares) nowadays tv shows are so bad that many have canceled their cable subscription lol.

My childhood i were watching this when i was baby and younger! And now after 7 years i watch it again.
It’s funny, for me this song makes me think of early Sunday morning, because that’s when reruns would play and my mom would watch them. Instead of making me sleepy it reminds me of errands, church, brunch, and that feeling of dread you get knowing that half of the weekend has already passed and that you have school tomorrow.
Haven’t seen this intro in nearly 18 years. Yet it brings me back to when I knew I was up waayyy to late and school was in the morning. I had to quickly turn the tv of or I’ll be sleepy when it’s time to go to school. 3rd or 4th grade.
