    Great episode. Bought my first HK in 1986 in Ft Campbell, KY. Paid a fellow GI $250 for a P7 when he had a child and his wife didn't want a gun in the house. He purchased it with a pawn ticket from another GI for $200 who was about to lose it at the pawn shop. I still have that pistol in great condition. Put it away for over 25 years in the 90's. Took it to the range this year and the owner offered me $2K cash for the pistol. Of course I said "No". To this day, I also own a VP9 and a VP9SK. Love all my HKs.
    They remind of my tour in Nuremburg, Germany. Erlangen actually.

      I'm envious. I've wanted a P7M8 for 10 years and used to balk at the asking price. I wish I would have paid up back then because they just keep climbing in value.

    I’m another sick HK addict, and retired from Army and Air Force. Began with a new P7M8 long before Hans Gruber ever heard of one. Back then they were $459. ($499 for an M13). When you say Heckler & Koch GmbH, the GmbH represents a different sort of company than an AG. GmbH is pronounced “Gay em bay ha” in German. Owner of two P7M8s, a stainless USPc 45, a P30, two VP9s, a VP40, a P2000SK in 9mm, 40SW and in 357Sig. I also have the VP9 Match. On the longer side, I also have the MR556A1 Competition Model. What has kept me into H&K is their ambidextrous designs. (I’m a lefty). The only except is the earlier USPs. The only modification that I have done to my HK pistols is to replace the mag release on my P2000SK to a slightly larger one off the HK 45. One very interesting think I only learned recently was that the small laser designator I have mounted on my USPc will also fit on a Picatinny mount! Thanks for your fun, thorough coverage of the fine H&K firm. I find many of your conclusions to be very sound. One of the most thorough on the web! Vielen danke!

    I recently got a USP Expert, I don’t usually see USPs in the store so I had to fold and blow my stack of cash. I was in the market for a full-size 9mm and was close to just doing a glock. My FN 5.7 isn’t really affordable to feed as of late with the lack of ammo making it double in price despite 3-5 new guns emerging and running the sweet little round.

And forced me to buy a p2000sk (3rd time) but with LEM and night sights it will become my main edc and P30 for when I need a bigger gun. Next on my bucket list is USP compact 9mm and p2000, want both with LEM but would buy USP compact 9mm da/sa I’d like to have both types of them, I’m done with Glocks and other brands and just going to focus on HKs going forward. When I Teach / Train Tactical Emergency Medicine withsome LEs or military types, they like me to carry whatever their department is using, ie Glock / Sig. Two Summers-ago, I used my H&K VP9 that my wife surprised me with for Christmas, in a CCB Handgun - Blade - Combatives - Tactical Medicine Course with Bill Rapier, in Idaho. I was on board with you until you said don't worry about carrying an extra magazine. Now, when it comes to HK, sure, you don't NEED a backup mag, but on lower end/high production firearms (Glock, SIG, Beretta, Kimber) you absolutely should have a spare mag JUST IN CASE you have a malfunction and need to throw the first mag away.
    EDIT: I also got my VP9 for $400 with a case, all grips and only one mag. I also bought a Holosun EPS and TLR-7A gunlight at the same time for $200 for both; insanely good prices I couldn't walk away from. Oh, and the firearm light and greendot sight were new in box.

    Let me tell you a bit about the cost of an HK in South Africa:
    HK no longer import into SA, but you can get them via custom important with license.
    Convert to USD and you would be paying around 2000USD with a few extra magazines.
    Cost: you need to complete a course on the basic firearms act and one on self loading pistols (you would do the same for the other 3 firearm classes), cost of applying for a license.
    Don't forget about spare parts as buckups, a safe to store your firearm as one is mandatory, ammunition and the cost to renew your firearm license every 5-10 years depending on what section you apply for.
    Its all complicated but worth it. You can get any gun you want in any configuration and ammo capacity all over the country, just not full auto.

    Excellent, very thorough video! You certainly know your stuff. The V4 CH (V4.1) LEM is worthy of mention. Friendly recommendation: Don't release the slide *at full velocity* without anything entering the chamber. It causes unnecessary stress and premature wear. Wilson Combat has a good video discussing this.

    My dream gun out of the 24 ish guns I’ve owned has always been the p30l since before even John Wick haha. Finally got it NEW for $650 I think they priced it wrong because every other Hk was over 1 grand unless it was an sk the. They were $800 I’ve had 4 hks and had I not needed to sell most of my collection… I’d still have some dope and 1911s sig and Hk but alas I’m starting anew and the p30ls new for that price? In Germany those guns cost 800€ except VP9 long slide which is 1200€ and HK USP long slide 1500 (short slide is 800), Glock, Walther, Beretta APX etc cost also around 800€, while Sig Sauer p226, or Bereta 92FS cost more around 1500€, I'll probably go with HK p30 and or a Glock 17 or 34.

One of the considering factors was indeed the horrible trigger pull. My thinking was if I ever got into any altercation and injured my hand there was no way to pull that trigger double action

After retiring, I stopped shooting Glocks as much and jumped into the HK boat. I now have the HK45c in LEM with lazy wolf work, the HK USPc in .45, the P30L, P30, P30sk all in light LEM with gray guns short reset. The vp9 in bronze slide and the VP9sk. I totally agree that this is an extremely expensive collection that is growing all the time. Anyways, do you find yourself choosing the usp or the p30 line?

    Wow! I'm a new left-handed shooter who is sold on the VP9L OR. Throughout all the videos I've seen this is by far the most comprehensive video out there on the subject. I'm a CA resident so I will have to buy mine in a PPT, due it being off roster, but when I hear how much people buy to upgrade their guns (esp Glocks) after purchase it's well-worth the additional cost to know I'll be satisfied and am getting a quality product.

    Wow very comprehensive video here with tons of info. Been looking to get an HK handgun for a while I just have such a hard time deciding between a USP compact, P2000, or P30 lol. I like the fact that the P2000 has a shorter grip and can be concealed more easily but other than that the ergos of the P30 are amazing. Always wanted a USP if for no other reason then I know that it’s the gun you take to hell and back if it hits the fan. Wish I could buy all of them eventually lol. I’ve seen a lot of the V3 DA/SA P30’s lately. Do you think the trigger in SA is just as good as the LEM? Can’t seem to find a LEM anywhere these days. Although some people claim that the LEM is just better all around, I guess I’m impartial but haven’t felt one in person yet as none of my local stores have any HK’s so I’d have to order one. Thoughts? If you could have a V3? Is the SA trigger pull really that bad?

    • @DeFenderCo
      @DeFenderCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have 2 P30L models; my LEM in the video and a V3 undergoing some R&D work. The V3 SA mode is great, but the reset sucks. So if all you can find is a V3, grab it and put the Grey Guns short reset kit in it. I think you'll be pleased with it.

    • @DIYDad1
      @DIYDad1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DeFenderCo yeah that’s what I’ve heard about the grey guns kit that it totally changes everything. Might need to look into that if I get one in the future. Hopefully soon! Good to hear that the v3 isn’t as terrible as some say. I’m not so worried about a heavy and long DA pull that’s kind of the point lol but for precision shots it would be nice to have a great SA pull. At least be able to hit targets at 25 yards or so hopefully that’s not asking too much from a pistol like this.

    • @DeFenderCo
      @DeFenderCo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DIYDad1 You can hit 25 yards all day every day with the stock V3 SA mode. But if speed is your goal, the Grey Guns short reset kit is a must. The long reset in SA mode will cost you time on follow up shots.
