  • 3 exercises you can do in standing. A few minutes per day that can make a big difference.

Good to see someone recognizing the importance of equilibrioception.
At 66, I've been balance-training for about seven years now - and, although I've obviously aged during that time, my equilibrioception abilities have not just stabilized but also improved - and improved quite dramatically. (This is due to a process called neuroplasticity, enhancement of the brain and neural system once wrongly believed to end in teenage.)
Since Covid hit, I shifted daily training from the gym to home, and bought a couple of Bosus (now the equipment I recommend to improve equilibrioception).
Originally, I practised standing on one leg on the flat side of a Bosu, then standing one foot on each Bosu, and performing split squats. Once competent at these exercises, I moved on to doing the same but with my eyes shut. Scary at first but, again, neuroplasticity kicks in, and competence ensues.
This last level challenges and enhances both equilibrioception (sense of balance) and proprioception (sense of bodily awareness), both of which decline with age - unless we train to maintain and improve them.
