Vegetas pride line was different from what I remember. I remember it being, "You may have invaded my body and my mind, but there's one thing a Sayain always keeps, His PRIDE!!!!"
These episodes although dragged out enough as they are, are among the few who are better in the original version than they are in kai. The line are executed better at least
That’s because the original Z dub drastically changed a lot of dialogue
The original Dub of DBZ (by Funimation) changed a lot of things, including dialogue, but Kai was redubbed with the intent of completely removing filler, remastering the whole series, and being more faithful to the source material. The dialogue in this scene is one of the few points where the earlier Funimation Dub was better IMO, especially in terms of the music. Vegeta's speech in the other Funi Dub about his pride and what power means to him is SO much stronger than this version, both in terms of the writing and voice acting.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince Yeah especially that part. Vegeta explaining the reasoning behind his actions in the following episodes in that iconic slap scene has powerful dialogue.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince Kai overall is better but by the Buu saga the original Z dub has caught up in quality. Majin Vegeta in Z has the best voice acting in the entire show, every line just hits different. Sabat’s Vegeta voice is perfect at that point
In the original Z version. Goku tells Vegeta "Do you let yourself be a slave?!" Vegeta responds with a ki blast at the audience. Then he replies with "Tell me. Is it slavery when you get what you want?" Then he makes that trademark Majin Vegeta smirk.

You know that shit is shocking when even Vegeta had an expression on his face like "Dude...are you for real!?"
A cool detail during the scene between Goku and Vegeta at the end: notice the blue electricity? Both of them are actually Super Saiyan 2 (Super-duper Saiyan) in this scene, as well as during this fight! The same form Gohan took when he killed Super Perfect Cell at the end of the last arc.
It's a tad difficult to notice on Vegeta because his hair doesn't change, but Goku's bangs do lift a little in addition to the blue lightning when he goes Super Saiyan 2.
I love SSJ2 as a transformation, I just wish it was utilized more often in the series.
I'd add that despite the confusion among fans, Vegeta actually only got this transformation through Babidy. He noticed that Goku was able to pull it off because he used it, for an instant, during his previous fight. And he got jealous.

This means that Vegeta had Ssj 2, You could argue it was because Gohan had it too, but I honestly don't believe it
No that isn't true and it's head cannon, he already had ssj2 its just goku's was still a little stronger at that point. Not that I'm trying to be a dick but you can look it up.
@@birb2330 I read the manga countless time. He says that because of Gohan. The whole point of Vegeta from Cell to end of Z is that he hits his limits and just cannot keep up. At the end of Z he just accepts that.

I love when Goku shows Buu the Super saiyan forms and you immediately see the difference between SSJ 1 and 2. Ssj1 is more flowy while Ssj2 is more spiky, longer, with less bangs and it looks fuckin dope
Goku’s ssj2 look might be my favorite despite being underutilized and improperly animated (in the first episode of this fight).

Honestly, Kai kind of flubbed this moment.

Kai didn't flub anything, but just did an accurate translation this time, unlike Z

The "transcript" of the iconic speech doesn't do the actual delivery justice - Christopher Sabat absolutely dominates that scene.

Ah yes, the infamous "I'm upset because I'm the prince and he's not and he's stronger than me and IT'S NOT FAIR," speech. Vegeta was completely intolerable at this point - nothing but a whiny, entitled brat. Yes, he does redeem himself later, but to be fair, he had nowhere to go but up after this.
Goku is a warrior and the reason he threatened the supreme Kai's life when he tried to stop them is because he has respect for Vageta as a warrior. He even respects his pride as a warrior. That's why he chose to fight him after he understood what was going on with Vageta. Notice that Babidi couldn't control Vageta and that the magic souls inside Vageta escaped his body? It means no one is forcing Vageta to do this. He is doing it out of his free will. You will see more of those dynamics between both warriors during the fight.
You noticed the M on Vegeta in the intro, that's exactly the sort of thing people are worried about the intros spoiling. It would be a bummer if you knew from the beginning of the arc that Vegeta would succumb.

@@somerandommenacenice joke but whenever I watch the Kai version I think DBZ is made for a 5 years old kid because the dialogues are so childish I even laughed at The Kai version of Majin Vegeta he's dialogues are so cringe & like somebody's forcing the VA to not giving his 100%.
"Even though he's not a villain, because we freaking love Vegeta" Oh he's absolutely a villain. He was not a "good guy"...arguably not even until AFTER this. He was a "tolerated" guy, but all throughout his time on Earth after they come back from Namek he has pretty much just been a detriment that has only served to help the "villains" when there's been implications of him being able to show off and show how "strong" he is (leading to him getting nearly killed most times in the process alongside the other characters). He didn't care about anything other than his superiority even up to now. You START to see him changing at the start of this saga after the years that he's been seeing Trunks grow, but even then he's still not exactly a good person necessarily.

I enjoy the Z lines for Majin Vegeta more than Kai. The Humiliation speech from vegeta in this fight is downright beautiful. Too bad it’s not in Kai

Supreme Kai stands between the. Picollo may respect/fear him, but Goku's response was more along the lines of "I met you 5 hours ago and now you are in the way of a fight 12 years in the making." To mix genres and quote one of the greatest lines from Babylon 5, "If you value your life, be somewhere else"
That and Goku knew that if he didn't fight, Vegeta would just start murdering people left and right until he did.
@@sodasaintcommentaries4054 In Supreme Kai's defense, Vegeta might not have been an issue in the first place if the Saiyans didn't fool around in Babidi's ship. They weren't taking the whole thing seriously and they were prolonging it for fun.
It was awesome to see Vegeta disobey Babidi but then realizing that when he killed all those people wasn't one of Babidi's orders, it was purely Vegeta's decision to do so which is terrible.
To be fair, Vegeta was probably convinced Goku wouldn't fight him seriously if he didn't do some evil shit

Yeah the original did this episode much more justice
Never saw Kai, so seeing this version of the scene is new to me but I gotta say the original Funimation Dub has this version of the scene beat when it comes to the dialogue (and ofc the intensity of the Faulconer score), Vegeta's lust for battle and singular desire to beat Goku comes through better there it's one of Chris Sabat's best performances as Vegeta.

In the DB cosmology, Kami (or Dende) is god, King Kai is god god, and the Supreme Kai is god god god. Goku just threatened to shoot god god god and got away with it with no repercussions 😂

fun fact the VA for vegeta was intensionally holding back his loudest scream and saved it for his sacrifice.
It surprised all of us when Goku threatened to shoot Supreme Kai because that was the first time Goku ever threatened someone, especially someone on their side. Judging by Majin Vegeta's reaction, the blast wasn't just going to knock Supreme Kai away or knock him out, it was going to straight up kill him if he didn't get out of the way.
I really wish you'd release 2 episodes at a time because this arc is super dragged out

My 2 issues with DBZ Kai is the spoilers in the intro and the changing of the legendary quotes that this arc has. In the original damn near every quote from Majin Vegeta was cold as fuck, man suddenly becomes an inspirational speaker (for himself). But in Kai, they switched out all of his legendary quotes for "Good" ones, they're still nice but they don't hit as hard

When youre done with this arc you should definitely watch TotallyNotMark's video essay about this arc. Its a great video and has added clips that TFS made from this arc (which might be the closest we'll ever get to TFS abridging the Buu saga).

I think I finally understand why people complain about episodes being like "they spend ten episodes standing around and powering up", even with KAI they do it too much! My GOD, its insane how little got done in this series between the several dozen episodes we've seen.
EDIT: I am half-wrong, this seems to be a problem more exclusive to the Buu Saga cut of Kai than any other part of it. My apologies. Still though, why did it happen here? What went wrong???

You're talking about the Buu Saga of Kai. That's almost a separate thing from the Kai version of the other sagas. It was made years after the others and left in a lot more filler than the other sagas of Kai did. The Buu Saga was given the absolute worst treatment out of the ones done for Kai.
Saw the thumbnail and thought it was for the new DBZA highlights short for the Buu saga.
As far as Supreme Kai knew, Frieza was near the limit of mortal power and an extreme outlier at that. When he heard super saiyans were a thing and one beat Frieza, they were expecting someone maybe 10% stronger. Not someone 10 times stronger. Debura's supposed to be about as strong as Cell and he's the freaking devil. So Supreme Kai's utter shock makes complete sense. It's like someone goes to a high school looking to recruit college athletes, and they're quadrupling Olympic records.
Plus, Toriyama really seems to like employing a kind of underestimation-reaction gag, where characters who aren't expected to really stand out turn out to be way stronger, and those who just observed the demonstration react with shock. He does that often throughout the series.
Heads up DBZ Abridged just dropped some new stuff in relation to the buu saga
The Z version of everything that's about to come out of Vegeta goes so much harder than this. Y'all should react to clips of those at least, maybe it'll be a bit interesting to see and hear the differences between Z Funimation and Z Kai English.
Yeah, Kai was disapointing. Instead of just removing filler they changed a lot of scenes, music, etc. And always to make it worse.
I hope some day someone makes Dragon Ball Z without filler, just that.

Kai has better voice acting and scritping. And while people love the Vegeta speech in the origjnal dub, nostalgia or otherwise, it's not worth the overall acting reduction and many many dubisms that change the characters or just provide unnecessary padding contrary from the original writing.
Just seeing how people talk about the og Z dub and Falcouner is proof that they don't or would never understand dragon ball.
Ever heard of the kikohu score which was used from original db to dbz along with the cha la opening. Btw the kai version of buu saga is widely regarded as worse than it's original version as compared to the previous sagas. Not to say kai music was bad as it definitely wasn't.
Goku almost obliterating Supreme Kai hits way different when you get to DragonBall Super. I won’t spoil it, but keep it in mind for when you get there.

Goku threatening the Supreme Kai is extreme, but it makes sense given how he is. He knew Vegeta wasn't going to stop, so he deliberately forced the fight to keep Vegeta from going on a killing spree.
Also, Vegeta's line about his "foolish pride" was different in the original dub, it was cut into an EPIC rant: "Meaningless, huh? WHAT DO YOU KNOW OF MEANINGLESS? Spend most of YOUR life ruled by another...watch YOUR race dwindle to a handful...and then, tell me what has more meaning than your own strength!"
I mean, it's more like, Vegeta morally extorted Goku into fighting him first. Vegeta apparently succeeded in riling Goku up.

"If the whole episode is just them starring at each other, I'm gonna be pissed." 😂😂 You would have never made it through the original Dragonball Z. Characters could go three to four episodes without throwing a single punch. The Freeza saga was infamous for it. Longest five minutes in history.
Nostalgia can be blinding and a lot of these comments are proving that to be true
Goku was sorry about threatening the Kaioshin, but also said that he would not have hesitated if he had not stepped aside.
Proves once again that Goku is a threat to the whole universe. Literally.
But Vegeta saw no more sense in his life at that point. Remember how in TFS he desperately wanted to fight Gohan because there was no one left to motivate him and a normal life with Bulma didn't fulfill him.
So it's..actually pretty sad what's happening to him right now.
Highly recommend you watch the scene in the original z dub. Gets so much more intense.
Came here just to say this! I like Kai better overall, but the original did Vegeta's whole Majin segment way better and gave it the gravity it deserves.

I know you've lost all respect for the Supreme Kai, but try to keep in mind that he is still a deity in the DBZ which is why it shocks even Vegeta that Goku would "dare" to raise his hand against him. It's not so much about the power it's about the rank.
Remember Goku is dead, and one of the reasons Goku even is on Earth atm is that he's a really good person who's done plenty of good deeds which has bought him credit in "other word" (aka Heaven).
Now it's not completely out of character since deep down Goku still wants a piece of what Vegeta is offering 😅

Honestly, I was disappointed to see how much Kai "lessened" Majin Vegeta's dialogue. Its still good, obviously, and Kai is definetly a much less exhausting watch overall. But the original definetly gave this mini-arc the gravity it deserved.

Yeah, anyone thinking that Vegeta would willingly prostate himself to anykind of mind control is simply delusional. He is pure stubborness and pride to the brim. The only way that Vegeta would've gotten branded is with him allowing it to happen for his own reasons.
This is Vegeta claiming his self proclaimed birth right as the prince of all Saiyans and the strongest Saiyan warrior and right now, there is no doubt that Vegeta is the strongest of the bunch by far.
(Written before watching) TFS is releasing Buu Bits, small 30 second to 2 minutes shorts that cover MOMENTS of this saga. They are meant to be watched if familiar with the source material, but you guys are almost through with the story covered in the first batch; give that one a watch once the Majin Vegeta plot gets resolved in Kai!

There's a different Dub of Dragon Ball Z from long before Kai that handles that first scene at the World Tournament much better IMO. They changed a lot of the lines in that version, but I feel like the dialogue had deeper meaning to it, the music was better IMO and the voice acting had more raw emotion to it. The pacing of the scene is slower, but you get some really good character development from Vegeta and insight into how his mind works. I highly recommend looking it up.
