I love how Goku deliberately plants the seeds of rebellion in Buu’s head. There’s something of kindred spirit between Buu and Goku, innocence and a love of fighting.

What I love about Goku's character is when he admits when he's wrong and owns up to it. He admits he and Vegeta didn't treat the situation seriously enough based on Babadi's henchmen and he admits they paid the price.

Goku at his core is a goofy, kind-hearted country bumpkin. Z gives him a lot of really grave moments to be serious in, though. If you want to revisit other parts of Kai, I'd suggest the speech he gives to Freeza in which he declares himself a Super Saiyan. It's Goku at his least inclined to fuck around. And in the English dub it's the only time he refers to himself by his full name!
Also when he tells Gohan to leave before he “loses what little sense he has left”
The only reason goku couldn't use instant transmission to go to bulma's house is because he needs to concentrate on someone ki at the house for it to work
@@rhythmkhandelwal2940My friend. The very reason Goku blows up King Kai with Cell is because of this limitation on instant transmission. It was the only location he could teleport to with the least casualties.
At some point I'm pretty sure he even explains that if someone's energy is too low he can't lock onto it. Can someone tell if I'm remembering that right?
if your ki isn't over a certain threshold Goku can't sense you or will have an extremely hard time doing it... also, the further away he is to a person, the stronger that person has to be for him to sense them

@@aisback1990 I mean, you can say its to advance the plot, but if we consider the newer material from Super as canon, then there is this dynamic where the stronger Goku gets, the more trouble he has to register lower power levels, specially humans with a power level of 6 when he is like above quintillion at this point, if we were to try and scale the last powerlevels we got at the freezer arc. Goku would have to figure out which ki signature is Dr Briefs, in a world where every regular adult is around an unit of 2 (considering a hard working farmer gets a power level of 5)

9:42 This scene is how I got introduced to DB in first place as a 5 year old kid. My brother (who was a teenager at that point) was watching this with his friends. I walked into the room and was frozen in place due to SSJ3, meanwhile my bro and his friends were cheering and my mom came in with snacks saying kids these days. I can't forget that moment.

Yeah I love Abridged too but they did dumb down Goku in it a lot more than he actually is in Z. He is goofy and not the smartest person, but he also isn’t dumb. He’s average in intelligence normally and a battle genius.
He’s a master martial artist after all. And he has had a ton of amazing badass moments but they were usually played for comedy in Abridged. So I’m happy you all got to see him like this in this episode.
And while I agree he might have been harsh on the kids in the previous episode but at the same time, they are the ones that everyone is relying on so they need to focus on learning fusion. That’s how Goku is seeing this. Which adds another layer into how mature Goku can be.
I love Goku as a character as well as Gohan and Vegeta. So I’m happy that you are getting to experience his true self in comparison to his Abridged self.
The TFS Abridged Goku is an extreme battle Savant, when it comes to fighting and combat, no one is smarter than him.
Honestly TFS kinda regrets the way they accidentally warped public perception of Goku with their version, which mind you was meant to be an exaggeration for comedy, as was the “Goku is a bad father” aspect, the more true aspect between the two, but even then.
I mean, Super's Goku is...
Let's say, it will make their transition to Super (if they ever get to that) much easier.

That's been the perception of Goku for most English speakers and it's not correct either. Somewhere in between dopey Goku and Superman-wannabe Goku is the real Goku and hopefully viewers found that out.

Super Saiyan 3 was EVERYWHERE in the mid 2000s. Even before I knew what DBZ really was, I saw Goku with that big ol yellow spiky hair.

The major drawback of using Super Saiyan 3 is the amount of Ki it drains from the user
Like how Kaioken draws out the muscles to it's limit which can exhaust the stamina of the user
Ss3 draws out more Ki and causes the transformation to last for a limited time
It a real shame because it’s my favorite SSJ form by far :(

I remember having friends having binders with fan art of ssj3 and ssj4 before the english dubs came out. This got me into Japanese original versions because i could not wait. These ppl made good money selling them too. Like around 2001-2002 ish I remember correctly.
It was legit hard to find any dragonball stuff back then, like there was merch but so few options, almost no figures, or nothing beyond the card game and stuff from like hot topic. Modern anime fans would probably be amazed hoelw rare stuff like that was in the day, so it's not surprising fanart would clean up so well back then. It was hard to even find those guys

also Goku did display smarts in the Abridged version. He explained to Piccolo that he himself taunted Cell with the intent of tempting him to not just blow up the planet before fighting him.

Once the design idea for the SSJ3 was Goku getting his Oozaru-tail back, like he original had. Old Kami cast a spell on him so his tail never grow again. But the Level of SSJ3 should have been powerful enough to break it. It would be a nice detail he they did that.

Goku's SSJ3 transformation is def reminiscent of his original SSJ1 transformation on Namek, though like more controlled and all.
Also to be fair, DBZA Goku also plays mind games like this, like the long game he played with Cell 🤔 But yeah it can be easy to mostly just see the goofy side - but at the end of the day, both of these sides *are* Goku. They are not mutually exclusive with a guy like him.
Buu is similar, like he may seem like a clueless naive guy, but you can tell by how he acts around Babidi that he's a lot more aware of what's happening around him.
Still one of my favorite transformations with SSJ4 right behind it. I just love the build up, the electricity, the long hair and the deep voice. SSJ3 is just awesome and I love it

Hands down one of my most favorite moments in this saga! I remember watching this after school when I was in 2nd grade and all my classmates would talk about it the next day. Can't wait to see more of y'alls reactions in the next videos!

For Context - since Goku was dead and was able to keep his body - he is outside the restrictions of TIME
On Earth Vegeta was training for 7 years
But For Goku time is infinite so that is why he was able to create such a power gap between them
I also think that having a "dead body" minimized the physical drain so he didn't get tired as fast and could train more intense

i use to watch this as it aired every week and i remember being SO pissed that they let us see this cool ass transformation and then go and end the episode. There's a lot more episodes like this too. I understand now why they do shows this way... but it's still a dick move😂.....

Dis is one of my favorite episodes in dragon ball z and dragon ball z Kai it is the best goku going super saiyan 3 Goku one of favorites in the show 😊
The original Z dub is the most iconic version of this transformation scene. It was even longer and Goku's VA screamed for even longer too.

Goku has always been a bit of a doofus even in the original series, but I think the Buu saga is when we get to see his mature and serious side the most. Since the Buu saga was originally the end of Dragon Ball, it felt like he had really matured at the end.
It’s my favorite Goku; he really is the leader of the group at this point.
He has to manage training the kids, dealing with Vegeta’s ego, guiding Gohan and everything else with the little time he has left.

this one of the moments where i wish yall couldve reacted to the original funimation dub, everything bout that blows Kai's version out the water
And good way to explain the difference between the Abridged version of Goku and the original version. In his backstory, he had fallen and hit his head when he was just a baby. The Abridged version leaned more into the fact Goku possibly grew up with brain damage along with the fact he never really had a proper education and therefore they made him more of the loveable goofball who is pretty naïve and clueless to most things that don't revolve around food and fighting. But in all actuality, Goku is actually pretty smart and can be quite the tactician when it comes to dealing with tougher or just multiple opponents who might have an edge on him.
Vegeta was brought back to life when he died on Namik as well

Goku absolutely plays mind games with villains in Abridged, you just missed or forgot.
The only reason the Cell Games happen in the Abridged instead of Cell blowing everything up is because of Goku playing with Cell’s head.

Do yourselves a favor and watch the original Super Saiyan 3 transformation. I appreciate what Kai did in making the story a bit more to the point and getting rid of the filler, but the original Transformation scene with the Bruce faulconer track hits differently.

I'll be honest, Goku, Vegeta and even future Trunks's first time transformation into ssj1 is classic, Gohan's transformation into ssj2 was legendary....
But i always, always had a soft spot for Goku's ssj3 transformation. Specifically the Bruce Faulconer/OG Funimatiin dub version. Bruce's theme provides the most epic and hype-est build up, along with Goku's long, long screaming pushing through that next level.
It may be nostalgic, but i still get gassed watching it even to this day 😁
You guys need to watch the original dragonball plus the start of kai. The goku in those series is iconic goku. Naive, pure hearted, and himself no matter the stakes. Unique character for sure.
The turquiose hair transformation is Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (no, that's not a typo), or Super Saiyan Blue. It's introduced in Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F, one of the more recent movies that takes place after the Buu Saga. A lot of more recent games have it as the transformation he uses the most because, until late in Dragon Ball Super,it was his absolute peak in canon.

You really should watch some of the English dub clips from earlier parts of the series. Moments like Vegeta's Rage (especially the Ocean Dub), Kamehameha vs Gallick Gun, Goku becoming a Super Saiyan for the first time, and Vegeta versus Android 19 would all be fun to see. Honestly even the original Funi dub of Goku becoming SSJ3 would be great due to the music. Hell, the original Funi dub had so much great music. Vegeta has two incredible themes (fear the piano) and Cell has one of the best themes in the series.

Piccolo was there when Majin Vegeta blew himself up, he knows how much damage Buu can regenerate from, if anyone would be cautious of Goku (even at super saiyan 3), it would be him.

4:20 at this point the only one alive that can be backup is Goku (maybe Gohan but he is not here now). No one else that is alive can even begin to compare to Majin Buu. They would just be a fart in a tornado.
Another tid-bit, Mr. Satan isn't his real name, it's a stage name he took, mich like a wrestler would (The Rock, The Undertaker, Stone Cold..etc). Satan was the most intimidating name he could come up with.
Almost a shame didn't get to watch DBZ regular because there is a reason characters are so beloved and its not just because they get swole and fight. They have more complexity and real moments that make audience fall for the cast.

19:25 As much as Funimation hates TeamFourStars, im fairly sure they got their inspiration from Lanipator, Takahata101, Kaiserneko and the other guys as fuel for the translation team handling Kai.

Goku just cant teleport anywhere he wishes. He needs to feel some power level he can use as pivot to his teleportation. That gets specially hard with regular humans. A hard working farmer has a power level of 5. Never mind an old man that seems like has not done hard manual labor in his life. That could maybe be a power level of 2, or 1 or even lower.
I think the last power level reading we got is like 2nd Form Freezer is a power level of 1 million. And Goku is many hundred-fold as strong as that now. If we take the current story as canon (which I have issues with, but fine), it seems that Goku has a harder time teleporting as he grows stronger. The lower powerlevels get more and more insignificant and he needs people to go full power to even feel them to be able to teleport.
Not only is Dr. Briefs power level arguably almost insignificant, but there are who knows how many people still around in the world. I imagine it would be like finding a needle in the haystack. At leasts with Piccolo and Tien, Krillin and the rest, they are in the tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of power level units.
17:09 just to put it in perspective... Goku in the original Dragon Ball when he met Bulma (literally the second person he ever met ever) and started his grand adventure he was 12 (she was 16). Trunks is 8 here and Goten is 7 so the "ADD" comment is very justified

it would be great if once you finish the buu arc, you go back to dragon ball (the original series) and then go through kai from the Saiyan saga to cell. Goku was gifted, but he had to grow a lot too, and train and get better.

You guys have to look at the original DBZ's Super Saiyan 3 transformation. Kai changes many of the voice lines and dulled the SSJ3 transformation scene. It's SO MUCH more EPIC in the original!

I’m not very fond to the English/American dub of Dragon Ball (I prefer the original and the one of my country); however the VA during the transformation of Goku in SSJ3 did something legendary! Goosebumps!

I know that Goku planting the seeds of doubt in Buu's mind was a smart movr but, to be fair, its not like he had to do much to begin with.
Babidi is *hillariously* arrogant. Not just for thinking he can control Buu, but for also testing his luck by constantly insulting him to his face.
here's a fun fact: Sean Schemmel, the voice actor for Goku, actually lost his voice during the super saiyan 3 transformation scene. i've heard being dedicated to your craft, but losing your voice? a bit much, actually. :)
