So the reason this is a Z movie is because Super didn't exist yet. This movie was made and revitalized Dragon Ball (sort of, over simplifying it), and then the next movie was made and after that it was determined that Super was going to be made, so this movie and the next are Z movies that are...mostly canon (the show takes precedence but the changes are small). Oh and those 3 kids were the original villains from the very first arc of Dragon Ball.
Fun fact: Shenron’s story about the first Super Saiyan God is about a Saiyan named Yamoshi. Yamoshi was a righteous Saiyan that existed before evil took root in Saiyan society, and along with five comrades, led a rebellion against the evil Saiyans when they showed up on Planet Vegeta. He was cornered and outnumbered, and as a result, becomes the very first Super Saiyan in Saiyan history. This is where the legend of the Super Saiyan, the one Frieza feared, was born. Despite his newfound power, Yamoshi was defeated by the evil Saiyans. However, his spirit remained and wandered the universe, searching for 6 pure-hearted Saiyans to create the ceremony that would birth the Super Saiyan God.

It can't be overstated how much this movie changed the game- not only was it the first time (!) where a DBZ movie was actually partially written by Toriyama himself, it p much kickstarted the series' revival in the 2010s and is entirely the reason why DBS exists! The script of this movie was gonna be a lot more of a generic good vs evil story before Toriyama came on board and completely reworked it - Beerus was also gonna be some lizard-like being, but Toriyama gave him this unique look, inspired by his own cat at the time, which had bern jokingly called a "demon" by a vet once Also the little blue guy (Pilaf) and his two cohorts are iconic Classic Dragon Ball antagonists, who appeared multiple times in the original story, but faded from the narrative around Z, with Toriyama saying they just couldn't keep up with the villains anymore 😅 If they hadn't been turned back into kids, they'd be in their 60s by now (despite what Mai claims) Also also, the final episodes of Z ARE canon, folks are just confused about it, haha
Pilaf, Mai, and Shu (the three random “kids”, one of whole Trunks has a crush on) were the original antagonists for Dragon Ball. They’re not all that evil, but it was nice having them show up again
Some people say Bulma lying about her age is one of the greatest lies in Dragon Ball. I'd say Beerus using "70% of his power" is the greatest lie. Bulma's lie is funnier, though
When this movie was made, there was no Dragonball Super, so this movie was part of Dragonball Z for that reason. It was only after Resurrection F that Akira Toriyama started making Dragonball Super, and re-wrote Battle of Gods and Resurrection F as episodes of Super.
"Is it garlic?" How dare he insult the mighty emperor Pilaf like that! My man Pilaf trying to get the dragonballs since before vegeta or frieza ever thought of being badies.
Until the second to last episode of super, I think that scene where Goku and Beerus fight in the clouds is the fastest these characters have ever looked. The fact that the camera can’t even keep up is amazing.
I mentioned on your Fusion Reborn video that for a long time that was my favourite DBZ movie. This is the one that topped it. Battle of Gods, to me, is the perfect representation of Dragon Ball. I don't know if it's been mentioned before or not, but I would *LOVE* to see your guys' reaction to the original English Dub best Dbz moments. Like Goku's Ssj transformation and etc!
I do suggest watching the Super episodes of this(and Ress. F)on your own time. While similar, there are some jokes and parts of the fight that aren't in the movie, like best 2 out of 3 with Rock, Paper, Scissors. While Vegeta's outburst was a great moment, Beerus allowed Vegeta to hit him, as he kind of respected him for putting his pride aside to embarrass himself, and for sticking up for Bulma.
I love Whis(and Beerus) too, super excited to go through Super with you guys! I think IRL Earth would do really well in some intergalactic food competition, and I love the way Toriyama depicted his food, and his machines/cars. Love the reactions guys!
I am glad you guys watched this movie. It’s one of my favorites. Beerus is old, very old. He’s around 160million years old or so. The god of destruction is the other side of the coin for the supreme Kai. And they’re connected as well, like for instance if the supreme Kai were to die or be killed so would Beerus. God of Destruction is a title that’s given, Beerus wasn’t born a god. That’s why whis said “we could make you Goku the destroyer when Beerus kicks the bucket.” I like Beerus because he reminds me of Death from Supernatural. In media like books, television and video games I love the chaotic neutral characters like Beerus and Death from Supernatural. And these two specifically are my favorites because they love earth for the food lol. But they also develope a friendship with the characters as well. Akira Toriyama passed away recently as well and he will be missed. Dragon ball had a huge influence on my childhood. I remember watching the oceanic dub back in the late 80s early 90s as a kid every Saturday morning. And I used to draw using his art style as well. I love Dragon Ball.
I'm sure y'all will watch Resurrection f but after you do you have to watch super from the beginning. Don't skip over the first two arcs even though they cover Battle of gods and resurrection f, Not only do they do stuff differently somewhat but also you'll miss a lot of information that's only in the show.
Beerus isn't evil, even kingkai said he wasn't evil and admitted beerus is necessary for maintaining the balance (yin and Yang), beerus is a god of destruction and is simply fulfilling his role, did you notice Whis comment about Goku becoming a destroyer after beers death so is he mortal?
28:13 A fair warning to all earthlings of the planet: Never…EVER…! Under any circumstances..if you value your life…lay a finger on a Saiyan’s wife. Ever…
Actually cant wait for you to see the peak moments of the Tournament of Power and the Super Broly and Super Hero movies. Those are actually some of the hypest moments of the modern age of Dragonball. Especially Super Broly. When TFS made the minor joke in Buu Bits about him being THE GOOD ONE, they werent kidding and they have a reputation of hating original Broly because of his backstory being so ridiculously dumb in the worst way imaginable despite how cool he is. Rest in peace Toriyama.
For you guys who are binging Dragonball this is coming hot off the Buu Saga but besides from one OVA we got introducing Vegeta's brother, Tarble that never comes up again, so we had waited from the end of GT which aired in 97 in Japan all the way until 2014 for more canon DBZ content. A crazy hiatus.
You're both right about the food theme. The creator, Akira Toriyama (R.I.P. the GOAT) was famously known to be a foodie, and also very fond of American food and American food culture as well. So much so, that he often gave characters and places food names. Vegeta is Japanese for vegetables, Jeice and Burter are juice & butter, Goku's Sayian name Kakerot is carrot; and Whis and Beerusu are wine & beer.
Name puns, specially food ones didn't started with Toriyama. And vegeta is short for the english word vegetable, not "vegetable in Japanese". Jeice is cheese and Whis is whisky, not wine.
I do prefer the tv series ending of Beerus missing his world destruction blast because he "fell asleep" just before firing, and Whis bundling him up to leave while thanking the Z Fighters for showing Beerus a good time. It showed that Beerus really enjoyed his time on Earth, yet due to his status, he could not openly admit that he liked it, so he pretended to be so tired that he did not finish the job, but "woke up" when Whis mentioned that he had gotten to go boxes of food from Earth.
What's funny is that it makes sense u don't recognize the pilaf gang but why don't anyone else? Aside from Vegeta hercule and the kids, *everyone* there met them in og dragon ball
This movie was probably the best Dragon Ball movie, hands down, ever since it came out. To me, it's my second favorite DB movie still, it just has the heart of Dragon Ball for me. Hell I even got to meet Goku's Eng Dub, Sean Schemmel (Can't spell his last name loll) at FanExpo Canada, which was very unreal to me at 15 or 13. Although my Number 1 movie is still a little far from now, glad you enjoyed! And to note, from what I remember, that cut content from the Theatrical Release isn't that big. Stuff like Gohan telling Krillin he's gonna go suit up in his Gi, some of the pilaf gang scenes, and other very small dialogue exchanges. The major scene that wasn't in the theater cut, as the Oolong vs Beerus in RPS. Which is honestly strange cuz it is pretty funny and flows pretty well into it.

15:16 they may not look like it but they're more OG than ALL of the Z fighters. They are the first ever villain group andwere shown in episode one of original dragon ball
Kaioshin is the God of Creation, Beerus is the God of Destruction and Whis is the one that keeps them in balance.
Watching these movies in the theater was really next level. It's a shame they only did limited showings.
I don't know if it's been mentioned before or not, but I would *LOVE* to see your guys' reaction to the original English Dub best Dbz moments. Like Goku's Ssj transformation and etc!
The 3 kids you didn't recognize are the first villains of original dragon ball, which you guys definitely have to see
I do suggest watching the Super episodes of this(and Ress.
That’s why whis said “we could make you Goku the destroyer when Beerus kicks the bucket.”
I like Beerus because he reminds me of Death from Supernatural.
Rest in peace akira toriyama ❤
Whis being voiced by Space Dandy is the best thing ever
I'm sure y'all will watch Resurrection f but after you do you have to watch super from the beginning. Don't skip over the first two arcs even though they cover Battle of gods and resurrection f, Not only do they do stuff differently somewhat but also you'll miss a lot of information that's only in the show.
Seeing this hypes me up for dragon ball super broly and super hero later
An hour of you 2, I love it
And thus Bulma and Beerus became besties!!!!
I'm not gonna lie I personally love this version better than the blue.
The last episodes of Kai are canon, but theres a timeskip before them so DBS actually takes place before those final episodes of DBZ.
Vegetas brother tarble only appeared in a small movie called Yo son goku and friends return, and it was never dubbed
Dog slumped LOL
Vegeta losing his absolute shit over Bulma being hurt is one of the best moments in DragonBall history.
Btw bulma's age isn't 38 it was a mistake of the movie and she's actually 45 during the movie
THE sounds great infront of alot of things. THE Batman, THE Superman, THE Man of steel, and THE the X-men. See so epic.
Bulma briefly mentioned Vegeta had a brother. He appears in Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!. Please react to that.
54:36: The last few dbz episodes are CANNON they just haven’t happened yet cause dbs is in between the end of the Buu arc and the end of z
So does Gohan just wear the Great saiyanman clothes underneath his regular clothes?
28:13
A fair warning to all earthlings of the planet:
Never…EVER…!
That's my BULMAAAAAAAA
Loved that scene XD
On the off chance nobody else said it, Beerus’ line about using 70% of his power was retconned.
The ending of DBZ is canon. But Super takes place after the fight with Buu and before the end of DBZ.
