I beleive its a dual prophecy talking about what happened in 70AD and 2027 through 2030. I am very sure but its my understanding of a 7,000 year or 7 day plan.

The part that has always bothered me when people teach on this (And they always miss) is that the disciples were not thinking of a second coming, they were still anticipating the first! You are the first person I've heard verbalize that. It really bothers me how no one ever brings that up. Great teaching! I look forward to the second part.
People are obsessed with Jesus coming back...they get "saved" & then nothing else matters except their troubles being over, even at the cost of Millions, When Jesus returns He brings with him Judgement...that should matter to us...are people's lives so unimportant? Are WE who got to recieve him more important then those who have yet to embrace His Majesty?
Yeah left dispensationalism this last year. And honestly, looking at eschatology since then has made so much more sense. You can let it text speak for itself instead of trying to get it to work in a pre-made system.
I left pre tribulation rapture 26 years ago. Its hard being differant from everyone else I know but truth matters.

Thank God for this! Context is crucial but so many miss it. The 1st question about when the events from Mt. chs. 21-23 & into 24 would happen. The 2nd question about Jesus coming, these (Mt.28:16-17, Mk.16:10-11, Lu.18:31-34, 24:9-11, Jn.13:33, 36, 14:4, 20:3-9, Ac.1:6) prove the apostles were clueless about Jesus leaving so there's no possibly way they were asking about His future 2nd coming. The 3rd question the end of the age, they wouldn't be asking about an age they weren't in yet and wasn't connected to the temple. Thanks Dojo! God bless.

As a sidebar. It was not the NIV but rather the Scofield KJV that tried to interject race into verse 34. Clearly, as in all modern translations, Jesus was referring to “this generation.”!

@@DiscipleDojo So you're saying that Scofield got it from Jerome? I didn't realize that. Even if one substitutes genos for genea it doesn't make sense. "This race will not pass away..." Say what? Yeah, I agree that it's not a sustainable position given all the usages of "this generation" throughout the Gospels. Especially with Matthew 24:34 following Matthew 23:36. BTW, I really like how you put the 3 Olivet accounts side by side. That's very effective.

I think this view of prophecy is valid. There is a fair bit of ambiguity with regard to prophecy that obscures prophecy looking forward. It looks clear looking back. Part of the ambiguity is to keep the devil guessing as well. The devil is trying to make God out to be a liar. And God needs people to have faith.
I recently picked up a (used, because it's so expensive) copy of the Davies and Allison "shorter" Matthew commentary, and have really been enjoying their notes on the Olivet discourse. I really like some of their different viewpoints on other verses I've studied before too; definitely some different perspectives.
Would your views be similar to those of Adam Clarke?
In addition, since the prophesies about the first coming had initial fulfillment followed later but their ultimate fulfillment in Christ, could the same be true of the Olivet Discourse? Fulfilled initially in 70AD and more universally at the Second Coming? Just asking….

Always saw the chronology in the Olivet discourse as straightforward: birth pangs, tribulation and false messiahs, return of Christ in glory with the resurrection and judgement.
The rest of the NT expands on that basic chronology: this age and its evil, the Day of Christ in which all resurrection and judgement occur, the age to come in which righteousness is to dwell.
Whether the Day of Christ is a short period or a thousand years, I'll leave in the Lord's hands.

While the Roman destruction of Jerusalem and the temple was a terrible tribulation, it certainly doesn't appear to be the worst ever, neither for Jews nor for the early Christians. There are some who say a more intense repetition will occur in the future. If the Revelation was written toward the end of the first century, its words certainly point to a future tribulation fulfillment.
So, future fulfillment appears to be the understanding of the apostles, the apostolic fathers and church fathers at least up until Tertullian.
After that, there is a lot of symbolic reading of scripture which leads to the development of amillennial and postmillennial schools of interpretation.
Still, the larger chronology holds: this age, Christ returns in glory during which all judgement and resurrection take place, the age to come in which righteousness is to dwell.

Obviously christ hasnt returned.

Thank you for this discussion! I've been analyzing the 3 versions of the Olivet discourse and had some thoughts. It makes sense for Luke to alter "abomination that causes desolation" to "Jerusalem surrounded by armies". It's not what Jesus said, but it's what he meant and now Luke's audience can understand.
Same with how Matthew adds "spoken of through the prophet Daniel", it's an honest clarification.
Where the lines get blurred for me is the apocalyptic embellishments. After Jesus says 'no one knows the hour' Matthew inserts an extra hundred words about the days of Noah and people being taken and left behind.
Did Jesus really say that? Or is the author expressing a later theological development for an audience who believes they are living in the end times?

New Covenant Whole Gospel: How many modern Christians cannot honestly answer the questions below?
Who is the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Who is the “son” that is the “heir” to the land in Matthew 21:37-43? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary?
What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary.
God is not now a “racist”. He has extended His love to all races of people through the New Covenant fulfilled by His Son’s blood at Calvary. The Apostle Paul warned against using “genealogies” in our faith in 1 Tim. 1:4, and Titus 3:9.
If the New Covenant is "everlasting" in Hebrews 13:20 and the Old Covenant is "obsolete" in Hebrews 8:13, why would any Christian believe God is going back to the Old Covenant system during a future time period?

What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below.
Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him.
He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth.
Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis?
Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart.
Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36)
We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.
1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

I did not catch what the
"sign of the Son of Man" in Matthew or "Son of Man coming in clouds.." means in this context? Is the "sign" the destruction of the temple and why does it come from the sky?
Hey. Im new ish to deep study. I suspect that one of the four olivet discourses you reviewed is actually different and refers to somthing else. Ill leave that with you and be curious to hear your thoughts such as you have them.
The end of the seventy weeks in Daniel is the end of the age. Then there is the Day of the Lord; the 1000 year age; the Millennial reign of Christ. Then there is a short age (little season) afterwards when the devil gets released and deceives the nations again and this is where we live because we are living this deception. Revelation 20

@@DiscipleDojo The Bible is a teacher? You're saying that the end of the seventy weeks of Daniel does not coincide with the end of THAT age? Are you claiming that age has not ended yet? It is 2000 years later, where is Jesus? Jesus said he was returning to judge THAT wicked and evil generation; the same one who crucified him. Either Jesus came back exactly as he said he would before the end of THAT generation (the Day of the Lord and Christ's judgment seat) or Jesus is a liar. Mental gymnastics are required to justify why it's 2000 years later and still no Jesus. Or Christ returned exactly as he said he would and the devil and his seed have covered up true history. How on earth could the devil deceived the nations again after Christ rules the earth for 1000 years? Changing history and denying Christ's return and 1000 year reign would be a required foundation for deceiving the nations after an event like the Day of the Lord.
The Bible clearly backs up my comment. Impossible historical narratives that do not match up with the physical evidence found all over the world clearly backs up my comment.
Loose hands? Maybe still a bit but the Lord is slowly refining that out of me. I still sometimes jump to conclusions as well and false-pride in what it is I think the Bible says still gets the better of me more often then I would like. Does that ever happen to you?

A bit of a side issue, but how do we deal with well meaning Christian friends who are always posting/sending you "prophecy" stuff? You can't prove or disprove something that hasn't happened. When you gently try to address it, it's basically, "Well, you don't know. It COULD happen. It MIGHT happen." dO'NT pUt gOD iN A bOx! How can you deal with "might" happen? Ugh, it drives me nuts!
@Yesica1993 to me, that's why it's important to always pull them back to the context of the passage, as well as pointing out the 100% failurr record of all "end-times" "prophecy experts."

❓❓ question, you said throughout all of Matthew when you read it it had to do with people in their time not us now. Are you saying that the last verse May pertain to us? How would a pertain to just them then? Is he may be talking about those that He took add his resurrection?
So in discussing Matthew, you mention that this was Jesus speaking to those around him - the generation that would see the fall of the Temple. And I agree/get that...however...you then spun off on the final verses in Matthew and discuss it in the second coming terms...which, seems to counter your initial point.
How do these closing texts in Matthew support the position that Jesus is speaking directly to those around Him about the destruction of the temple, and not the second coming?

Great review but I do think you're missing something I believe you and the fundamentalist Christians are both correct yes Daniel was talking about Antioch the fourth but Daniel also believed that that was going to be the end of the world so it's not an either of this view or that view it was both views at that time and it was just a failed prophecy.. imo
He was writing about the past saying what happened but then he saying but soon God will come and defeat them

Where does it say the words "Olivet Discourse" in the Bible ?
The Gospel writers wrote what the Holy Spirit inspired them to write.
You could have just read one version of the olivet discourse because they are basically the same.
Are you going to talk about the Coming of the Son of Man ?

Jesus is not describing the rapture, that happens prior to the great tribulation, he is describing those taken in judgement and those left behind who live on into the millennial kingdom.
There is no rapture in the Bible. That is an invention of 19th century Dispensationalists.

There's no "rapture." There is only the Second Coming.
To this date, I have found NO convincing evidence for a pre-tribulation rapture. 🤷
