  • @BrunodeSouzaLino
    @BrunodeSouzaLino หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    5:55 The reason you have this "breakup speed" is because you're trying to increase your top speed when the time increase should be your average speed instead. That's how classic musicians practice. You start at a bpm where you can play comfortably, play for some time, then you increase the bpm by a small amount like 4 or 8 and repeat. Do 4 to 5 increases then next day you start from your first time increase. While it's still practice, the increase is happening in a more organic manner. This also eliminates the dead spot of "breakup speed" because the increase is so small you don't have time to think about whether you'll be able to do it or tense up, if not similar things which could hinder your practice.

    Excellent advice. Especially around the 6 minute mark, he speaks about practicing many licks in five-minute chunks as opposed to one exercise for an hour. This piece of advice is actually evidence-based, as it corresponds to the variability of practice hypothesis (which has at least some evidence to prove it in the form of comparative motor skill learning studies).
    Many people (myself included, during years of classical guitar studies) get this wrong and spend too much time on mindless repetition, when they would be better served by a greater degree of variability in their routines.

    7:25 That's sort of the same for me. Guitar squeals and pinch harmonics... really good and flavorful ones. When you can FEEL it. When it has gone from a trick they do to being integrated into their playing. It's like the random guitar videos I come across and you see players all the time that know the trick, but it doesn't FEEL right... and you can just tell they are an intermediate at best. I mean, we all went through that stage lol but the same people complain that everyone always tells them to play with feel... and it yea lol we do, becauset it's really hard to explain. It's the small subtleties and some point we ALL cross it! Also, playing FULLLLLLL SONGS and not just a pieces of it is a real give away...

      I mean do is Rusty known for good music like Marty? A good vibrato? Good feel? No. So he’s out himself in a niche because all he can do is throw a barrage of notes at the listener (like he says it). The dude is so far down on my list of who I want to aspire to be like. I’d rather play slow and controlled with good vibrato. The first 3 years of my playing I wanted to be super fast but I noticed quick that slower playing makes more fun because you actually are able to express more nuance that way. It’s also more challenging.
