Toasted Coconut Cold Brew Coffee (Starbucks Copycat Recipe) - Pai's Kitchen

  • Coffee and coconut are two flavours that go together like peas in a pod, and I know this because we use this combo in a Thai dessert, too. So when Starbucks came out with a "toasted coconut cold brew coffee" I really wanted to try it. My conclusion after tasting: I can make a better one at home! :)
So I went home, got busy, and came up with this delicious recipe that is just the right amount of creamy, nutty, and refreshing. And if you prep all the ingredients in advance, you can put it together in a matter of seconds!

Pai suggests using dark roast for cold brew, the opposite of what almost everyone else recommends. And she's not wrong.

great video, my only suggestion as a huge coffee nerd is that it's not the bets to use electric and blade grinders. They heat up when in use and heat u the beans a little and can a unnecessary roasty taste. Manual burr grinders are the absolute best! keep it up i'm going to make this today.

I've always used Aroy-D coconut milk for my coffee. It's usually the left over coconut milk I have when I make curry. It tastes great. Will have to try the toasted coconut. PS. I work at Starbucks and yes the coconut milk has no coconut taste at all. It's a plain neutral taste. And very watery and light. It doesn't make good foam either.

I really appreciated that Pai tried to introduce true coconut flavor in coffee. I tried Starbucks version with less ice, there was no coconut flavor at all. Waste of money.
I would believe her recipe better because of her Thai cooking culture background.
Thanks for recommending your favorite brand of coconut milk. Here in America, many products are imitated (not fake but poorly mass produced).

I only make cold brew coffee by the gallon for regular coffee and two quarts for my flavored coffees. I don't fiddle with bags of any kind I simply make my own from a piece of an old clean nightgown I have made six from one nightgown. I don't sew them either I just put the coffee in the middle and tie it with kitchen twine.

Starbucks version taste nothing like real coconut. It smells like hand cream. I don't get why every coconut product in the U.S. smells more like smelly aged coconut oil or artificial product.
With advance transportation, I think everyone in the U.S. should have had chances to experience fresh and real coconut, atleast once in their life time. It's confusing why people still enjoy artificial coconut smell.
