The point isn’t that she’s Canadian, Thai or even Martian. The point is that a cooking presentation for an English-speaking audience is always much better (in terms of clear communication and entertainment too) when it is presented by someone who is themselves a fluent (if not native) English speaker. *For me, an Australian, this was perfect.* (I also struggle with the American presenters using confusing old-fashioned pounds, ounces, Fahrenheit, etc. and saying weird stuff that assumes the entire world lives nearby in Springfield USA.)

In a few days I'll be heading from the UK for two months in Chiang Mai. The roti vendor in Warorot Market makes the best rotis I've eaten anywhere in Thailand and I'm soooo looking forward to reacquainting myself with them! He adds an egg to the bananas, which takes the whole thing to another level. To ring the changes, his mango and pineapple rotis are delicious too. Bang goes the diet!

One of the first things I do whenever I go to Thailand is get a roti!! I love it so much! I usually get just plain with condensed milk or with chocolate. For some reason I never want bananas? Perhaps I’ll try it next time! My boyfriend also loves roti and this is the first recipe I’ve seen that actually looks like the roti I remember so I’m definitely going to try, thanks so much for the recipe!

Great vid. A roti is an indian word but this is really a paratha which is basically a dough with ghee which is an indian butter rolled out so it is in layers and is flakey. Now a days I buy the plan parathas, 6 for £2 UK and add chopped bananas or eat with dall or veg or Nutella or with lamb curry. This is the original way to eat it and common in all Asia. Glad they have this in Thailand. I had it on holiday there a few years back and chef is right they do rush it and don’t cook it through as some parts are flat. A paratha should rise fully like a rugby ball and you know it’s cooked then. A roti is closer to a name bread but more thicker. If you lie paratha try a puri bread which is light bread deep fried. In the UK all this is old as standard in all indian restaurants and takeaways.

It'll be good I'll get to compare the difference it makes letting the dough rest overnight. But even without much rest (1 hour) I still think it's very good.

Nice! One tip that I learnt from my grandma is to use a big wok if making large, thin (roomali) roti at home...basically place the big wok upside down on the hob...when hot wipe an oil drenched kitchen towel over it and place the roti...it cooks from one side very quickly...then bring it to pan (heating on the other hob), add filling, fold and cook as in the video...yum 🤤

With these types of roti, if you stretch it using the technique like spreading fishing net over water, and then crunch it up together again and re-spread it, and repeat a few times, it tends to taste a lot better. You have to repeat the process many times for each piece of roti.

It’s south East Asian version of Indian Roti Pratha… in most areas in Singapore 0r Malaysia.. or maybe Thailand.. we have lots of fusion version.. like strawberry filling or chocolate…. But most commonly …we have meat inside called murtabak… originated from India.. anyway I like your version..

Victoria, of Victorias Keto Kitchen recently came up with a flour made out of bamboo fiber that everyone is RAVING about being super close to wheat flour. Itsa 1 to 1 sub for regular flour. SO MAYBE, this could be a lot more Keto style.

I was in Chang Mai in 1998. My favorite was just the plain sweetened condensed milk and sugar. I remember the bright yellow margarine! Also they did not do a super crispy version, it was still quite mailable, they rolled it up and gave it to us in newspaper. It was amazing. I found a recipe while in Thailand and tried to make it for my parents when I got home 🤦‍♀️ There was a hint of the right flavors but I was not “baker” back then. I cannot wait for round two 2O some odd years later.

I moved to Thailand and I love banana pancakes but since the lockdown, no tourists = no street roti. Now, after watching your video, I can make them at home. Thank you. BTW, your channel is the first place I go when I want to get the authentic style of a particular recipe.

Tried last night and, despite burning a few of them a little bit, they tasted awesome. Tried 4 with bananas and condensed milk. One plain, one with cream cheese. also good. With the remainder I'm thinking peanut butter and condensed milk, or honey. Out of bananas :-(
    Thanks Pailin!

Omg!!!! Love this video which I can’t wait to try it at home during this quarantine period!!! (Seems easy with your clear explanation 555) When I was in Thailand being an exchange student, I definitely love โรตีธรรมดา the most cause it’s the cheapest (15 baht) so that I can eat a loti every single day! However, being a tourist, I love chocolate banana loti (40 baht) the most!!! 🤤🤤

Roti is my favourite "dish" ever. I search the receipt long time. Thanks a lot 🤗🤗🤗 Now I can make for my family and show how taste it. My favourite type is the same one: only banana and condense milk. Sometimes with cinammon-sugar top on, if the seller has it. Now I can make for myself at home. Super.

When I visited Thailand for the first time, I went to Koh Phangan by myself for the full moon party. Met this dude on the bus and when we landed on Koh Phangan at night, we were starving after such a long day. Don't remember what we ordered, but he wouldn't eat rice. He said he was saving his carbs for the banana pancake. I said "what's a banana pancake?" He looked at me like I came from Mars, got up and said he'd be right back....he comes back with this paper plate with this thing on it covered in white goo...He gave me a square with the toothpick in it...one bite and I just looked at him like "dude wtf did you just give me? And Elvis is behind you cause I need to eat the rest of this heaven!" I'll never forget that night that changed my life :-)

We have something very similar here in the Philippines. It's called turon. We use a short and fat variety of plantain bananas and it's wrapped in a "lumpia" wrapper which is also made of wheat flour and eggs (quite similar to a spring roll wrapper). It's deep fried and some variations include a sliver of jackfruit or cheese. Instead of condensed milk, caramelized brown sugar is used (or maybe the sugar is added to the oil it's fried in). I'm drooling now....
