Its a feature of Final Fantasy 14 that you can play every Job (Class) with a single Character. You can change anytime you want. Thats why the "main Character" is a different Class in every Cinematic

FYI, you get your first mount from the Main Story Quest at around level 20 or so. If you did like me and leveled well past that doing side quests and stuff, you need to go back and progress the MSQ until it gives you your first mount.

And... How much has Doma or Ala Mhigo mattered to anything really since StB ended? Shinryu and Omega stuff was postgame HW and all StB did was claim Zenos was able to merge with Shinryu because of course he can, while Omega was utilized for the raid series.
Eorzean, btw. But yes, sure, the Eorzean Alliance was formed, but again, what part of Ala Mhigo's involvement in that has ever mattered to the story since StB ended? Outside of brief mention of them it's continued to just be Limsa, Gridania, Ul'dah, and Ishgard that were directly relevant to the story. Ala Mhigo could have never happened and the story post-StB would be no different for it.
That's what I meant when I said nothing of *substance* happened. Things happened, sure, but nothing that actually continued to have an impact on anything post-StB outside of Zenos showing up again in Endwalker, which, frankly, was by far the weakest part of Endwalker's story, and Fandaniel taking on Asahi's corpse as his vessel for some reason because the writers wanted to make the new Ascian immediately interesting and decided the best way to do that would be to have him use the face of one of the least interesting villains in the entire story.
The thing is, every time anything to do with Doma or Ala Mhigo does get mentioned or thrown in for something - which is a rare occurrence as is - it feels like an afterthought, like they just needed *someone* there and realized if they didn't give it to the Ala Mhigans or Domans they'd just have zero relevance. There's never been a point in the story post-StB where it felt like it really mattered that we liberated those places.
Every time Limsa, or Gridania, or Ul'dah, or Ishgard, or even Norvrandt get brought up in the story again, they always get a reasonable amount of screentime dedicated to them and have a clear and direct reason for why they specifically are relevant to what's happening, while anytime Doma or Ala Mhigo come up it's like a scene they throw in in-between other scenes to get it done with as fast as they possibly can, and it's never a case of us specifically having a use for them and what they bring to the table, it's always something that any of the others could have done just as easily.

The 'powerful guy' who shot the dragon in the Heavensward animation isn't a guy at all. If you look, it's a squad of dragoons slamming into the dragon with spears and bringing it down. The specialty of dragoons in Final Fantasy (or lancers, in some games; in FFXIV you start as a lancer) is the ability 'Jump'. You leap into the sky and slam down to destroy your enemy. Dragoons in FFXIV can jump like superheroes and convert that kinetic energy into devastating attacks.
So the dragon was reeling as the dragoons were levering their spears in its flesh to finish it off faster.

In the world of final fantasy where crystals rule, there must be a balance between light and darkness. If one of the two forces gets out of control the world can be destroyed, when the dark force is out of control the warrior of light is needed to fight it the same goes for light because it also puts the world in danger hence the warrior of darkness is needed both forces corrupt the balance the angels kill indiscriminately the power of the warrior of light is useless against them that is why the warrior of light has to use darkness

ARR- really slow burn with a focus on world building that seems tedious but trust us "it get's better in heavensward" ;)
Heavensward- Estinien!!!!!!!! (He's the Azure Dragoon!) also it did get get much better
Stormblood-feels like it could have been 2 expansions, with a slow first half but picks up in the second half of the base expansion. also "PS3 died for this"
Shadowbringers- "Welcome to Shadowbringers" and where the Emotional Vampires are chomping at the bit for streamers to hurry up and get to ;)

"Can you actually wield that brush in the game?" - Yes. The class is called Pictomancer.
"Is that the girl we were training with?" - No. Also earlier when the same person was in the heavy armor at the beginning of the shadowbringers cinematic with the Katana? That's the same guy. He's the main villain of that expansion.
"I feel like I was there before" - No, if you're only level 30 or so then you were most definitely NOT in Sharlayan yet, trust me. And that city is called Old Sharlayan.
"Is there power scaling in this game?" - Well there certainly seems to be, but the theme of all Final Fantasy games is that a group of unlikely allies band together to take down the big bad of their respective game
for example in 9 a thief bands together with a princess and a knight, as well as a mage going through a crisis of identity and a journey of self discovery, as well as a mercenary that was originally after his head, and a very young summoner.... As well as a... Qu? Which is a large creature that learns skills based on what it eats, but all Qu's favorite food is frogs.
Additionally the very first cinematic was for FF14 1.0 which was scrapped when the game had to be entirely remade because of how colossally it failed due to the company making it with such horrid coding and scripts and without features most MMO's very commonly had. Realm Reborn was 1.0's remake into the game as we see it today, so Realm Reborn is referred to as '2.0.' Then every expansion onward is referred to the next higher number as they go on, so currently the game is in 7.0 or 7.1 due to the raid patches and whatnot.
On top of all of this, there is no need to make alternate characters to play a different class, as one singular character can learn and level up to max every single class in the game if you want to, so you aren't restricted. On top of this, you can visit the aesthetician to change certain limited looks, but if you wanted to altar your characters looks entirely you can buy a phantasia from the mogstation.

  • @Norbert_Sattler
    @Norbert_Sattler หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The first video was the intro of 1.0 and in it, the player stand-in was having an echo vision of the past.
Quite a few years before the start of 1.0, the Garlean Empire started their conquest of Eorzea by conquering Ala Migho, the estern-most city state of the continent. After overrunning them (they were weakened by just coming out of a civil war, in which the mad king was overthrown), the Imperials decided to make their staging ground for the invasion of the rest of Eorzea, the area in between the other city states. Rumors of this area being sacred and that you shouldn't mess with it, were put down to superstition... but they were wrong. For one thing, it is a place where the life-stream comes very close to the surface, and for another, more important one, the father of all dragons Midgardsormr, made his nest there. And father of ALL dragons is literal. Every single dragon in existence is a descendant of this monstrous being.
Anyway, when the Imperial legion stepped onto the sacred ground, they roused the biggest and most powerful of all dragons on the planet and his brood and they were annihilated... but also caused a pretty big catastrophy. When the main reactor of the flagship, that Midgardsormr brought down, exploded, it blew right through the thin layer of earth that covered the lifestream, and made it gush out into the air, that's the green glow coming from down below. It's not clear whether the dragon died to the explosion or the gushing of the lifestream, but it's of little matter... it's dead.
And with the life-stream gushing onto the surface, the area is flooded with an overdose of aether, causing animals to mutate into aggressive and dangerous beasts, messing with plants and all that... and causing the echo to awaken in considerably more people than ever before (this justifying ingame how there can be thousands of players with the supposedly "rare" ability of the echo).
The 8th is Yoshi P burning down the 1.0 servers... erm, I mean the 8th Umbral Calamity. ^^
Within the Garlean Empire, there were two factions vying for influence, the conquerer and the annihilation factions, you could call them. Previously the conquerer faction was more influencial, but the catastrophic loss at the battle of Cartenou (i.e. what you saw in the 1.0 intro's echo vision), they lost influence and the annihilation faction gained ascendence. They found some ancient Allagan artifcacts, that allowed them to remote control the lesser moon Dalamud. And rather than wondering why the Allagans would have stuck a bunch of engines onto a moon, they just counted themselves lucky and decided to make it crash into Eorzea.
The 1.0 story concludes in the players taking down the leader of Project Meteor, and destroy the Garleans' means to guide the moon.... but it's already too late. Even with the Garleans no longer able to control it, the momentum it already has and the gravity of the planet bring it down anyway.
But it's even worse than just a big boom from above. What the Garleans didn't know was that Dalamud wasn't a natural moon, but a giant space-station that the Allagans constructed to seal Bahamut and then flew the station into such a high orbit, because this Bahamut isn't an actual dragon, but a dragon-shaped primal (like Ifreet, Titan, Garuda & co), who'd absorb aether from the planet, if he wasn't so far out. So as the moon draws nearer to the planet, the primal within is able to draw more and more aether and thus become stronger, while at the same time, the re-entry chipped away pieces from the outside of the structure, weakening it... until eventually the power of the prisoner overcame that of the prison and he broke free.
And the scale is not deceiving, that monster is indeed longer than the entirety of Limsa Lominsa. It's literally a city-sized dragon primal.
The old Elf guy tried to literally summon the Twelve (the gods worshipped in Eorzea) to seal up Bahamut, but it failed... as his last act, he teleported the heroes away and they ended up not just being sent through space, but also forward in time and only re-appear a couple of years later. And what happened then, nobody knows. The leading theory is, that Bahamut used up more aether than it was taking in, and thus disappeared, like any primal cut off from their power source. But for reasons unknown, the memories of everyone within a wide distance of the battlefield got messed up. They have only a vague recollection of what happened, and know that there were heroes who fought the Empire and brought down the White Raven, but nobody can remember the faces or the names of the heroes, so they are just called the Warriors of Light.
If you played 1.0, you were one of those anonymous heroes, who got teleported into the future. If you didn't, you're just a fresh adventurer, seeking glory, riches, fame or "..."
As for the others, you'll get all the context in the game itself, so I won't spoil that. :)
Stormblood is part of the free trial now, but only since the release of Dawntrail, this summer. Previously you could only play up to Heaven's Ward without paying.
I don't have a favourite expansion. They are all interconnected and build on each other, so I don't see a point to comparing. It's all one big story.
This is the first time I saw anyone mistake Lyse and Zenos for each other, the latter of whom is a man.
Yes you can wield the brush in the game... but not the free trial. It's the pictomancer job, that's only unlocked if you buy Dawntrail.

The auras don't really do anything but represent ability usage. Dark Knights wield complex passion to evoke a type of eldritch energy which broils and yearns to lash out. I would go into more detail but it'd spoil their job quests.
Basically, the purple aura you're seeing is Meteor evoking the energy. They actually end up with a powerful attack later called Shadowbringer that deals that wave attack which killed off the light being. Without spoiling anything, the Dark Knight's source of power is incredibly meta and surprisingly prophetic, as nobody in the universe understands them until extremely late in the game (and they don't make the connection between their power and the source of their power at all in-character).

Everything after the A realm reborn trailer is a spoiler for you. The 1.0 squad doesn't come up in game at all as they do in the trailers. Just make sure you do your msq and job quests, and you should be good. Enjoy the journey, as it's a long one. Arr sets up the tone of everything else, that's why it's a bit slow. And there's a story reason why you don't get mounts until msq level 20, plus the mount quest. Everything revolves around the story, because it's a final fantasy game first, mmo second, and the franchise is known for its narratives.
