We need to talk about Gray Zone Warfare...

- Gray Zone Warfare just released 23 minutes of uncut gameplay and its LEGIT. This is probably the most true-to-form "tactical shooter" I've seen in awhile, but I do have a few questions before I'm completely sold.

Really fair points, sir! We still have a lot of work to do. More new updates coming in our Devlog later this month.
I cannot wait to see more. I hope yall keep improving because this is a SOLID foundation for a pre-alpha!
if lethal company taught us anything, you can ship a wildly janky game as long as you nail the environmental voice communication effects ;) but fr love seeing this response, knowing you're tuned into these criticisms only gets me more hyped for the game!
just keep going brother, its going to be an amazing game. But don't bring it out like Direct Contact, even if it has to be delayed
Only main concern I've got right now is sound design. I'll be damned if that ambient sound isn't enough to cause a headache
You talk about the A.I being bad and yeah they def need work
Bit tarkovs scavs are some of the shittest A.I I have ever seen in my
Life 🤣
Frogs can straight up get deafening, I'm a macro shooter and I've had trouble filming/photographing some frogs because their croaks are so fucking loud it hurts my ears to go near them, I deadass need earmuffs for working with some species.
ultimate frog realism confirmed.
I live in the tropics and when its rainy season the frogs come out chanting and they get really loud but I'm fine with it and it calms me.
Agree, live in tropical area myself and frogs can be deafening, especially after rains.
Sometimes, they're fine, and sometimes I wonder why these fuckers are louder than an actual concert.
@@UnknownOps Lol yeah its funny when they start fighting. The gutteral croaks they do seems like to vibrate my windows' glass jalousies.
People complaining about frogs being loud need to literally spend time outdoors.
Glad I waited until the real title
Also I understand the no comms, people have thought that footage showcases with comms were usually cringe acting and they commonly are.
It's a bit of a grey area
ba dum tss
Maybe it's just me, but it looks quite a bit like if Arma 3 got a visual upgrade. It seems to have a lot of the same 2013 'problems': stiff movements, gunplay, hit-or-miss AI, etc.
Been burnt far too many times over the last decade. I'll definitely be taking the wait & see approach with this one.
It would be great to have a game with gunshot audio that mimics what it sounds like through peltors or any other kind of active noise canceling comm headset. Also, it wouldnt make sense to be holding up a rifle at the high ready for an hours-long movement to contact, or raid, or whatever this mission was. Your back and arm would be exhausted and your shot placement would be horrible. Fluid, realistic weapons carry would go a very long way. The characters would be switching from high port, low ready, etc, and just generally letting gravity help prevent their firing hand arm from fatiguing. I know it’s a game, but I keep seeing devs go for realism and end up just mimicking every other game out there
This might blow you away but tarkov is supposed to do that with the state of tarkov's audio now it's barely noticeable but each headset has a very distinct audio profile
@@sortaspicey9278Except that the singleplayer version of Tarkov (which the Tarkov devs don't want you to play) has a plugin that simulates headset dimming the audio when gunshots are fired.
I agree on the weapon positioning. I think the game does/will have a fatigue when aiming for too long. I would hope to see some high/low ready options. It does seem like at some points they are holding low, but I can’t tell if that’s auto or controlled.
@@strikemasterice2004 SP Tarkov is and has always been for pussies that cant handle the game. Nobody gives a shit if theres a headset dimming mode for it.
There should be a button to just drop the weapon on sling. Maybe run faster (free run), dont consume arm stamina? Maybe only vault when weapon sheathed? Ye theres room for improvements
Those frogs are loud but quieter than cicadas can get
Gray Zone Warfare has potential, and if we give such big concessions to Tarkov as with the issue of cheaters or the audio, that after 4 years of playing it still doesn't work well, I can give the Gray Zone Warfare the opportunity to evolve and improve over time , after all, it is a pre-alpha as you already said in the video.
Lol deskpop at 0:57 on the chopper.
As a huge Tarkov fan, I'm interested in seeing where this game goes, it has a ton of potential - I hope they keep at it, got a long road ahead!
This was the problem with Ghost Recon Breakpoint. If the enemy AI was on point then it would’ve been 100x better!
Dude the game isn't even out yet let them make some changes and improvements
@@DerekR87 just make sure it not dogshit my guy
I was talking about GR Breakpoint and it’s been out for years
You hit it right on the money with the AI. I'm glad I wasn't the only one
Can’t wait for the game to come out
Why I like these types of games is just because you can be chilling and boom all hell broke loose so I really can’t wait for this game to come out because I need a tarcov type game
I think if the gun sounds had more varying reverb depending on the surrounding area like the sound of gunfire echoing across the landscape and especially if you’re firing supersonic rounds, the sound of the round cracking the sound barrier, suppressor or none, would help alleviate the flat sounds of gunfire.
For sure, I think all sounds in the game right now don’t have proper 3d positioning or environmental distortions. I think the guns would sound great once all of the nuanced sounds like you mention are added.
Many good points and I agree with all of them.
After your video, yesterday, my subs-wall was full of promotion of this game by many fps/tac-shooter-youtubers, it didnt take long for me to understand they're paid, thanks for the heads up mate.
I honestly don't think they were paid for this one. OperatorDrewski was actually somewhat critical, as were some others. They were under a release embargo until Friday morning.
I think it's definitely the best pre alpha for a smaller studio I've ever seen. Not getting my hopes up but it looks good so far. The problems in the video seem easily fixable compared to what they've done so far.
Those who complain about frogs clearly havent been outside a long time. I have pond next to my house about 200m away. At night frogs in summer are so loud i hear them while gaming with my headphones on. It seems real. They can be so loud its crazy.
Game looks really good
Arma reforgers new update has made A.I very good, when they actually see you they lay down suppressing fire, throw and use smokes to move up or back, they flank your position while some stay and shoot from the original contact point and it works very well lol it’s borderline impossible to solo run combat ops on arma reforger.
I love how everyone wants to compare this pre alpha game to tarkov, Which has been in development for like 10 years. Do people forget Tarkov literally just barely got vaulting and shoulder swapping this last wipe. I love Tarkov but to ignore how long they have taken to give these little things is insane. Also Tarkov audio isn’t much better than this game sure the guns sounds a little better but it has major audio issues. People should give feedback but I’ve seen so many people saying that this was a miss or a bad showing of the game. Give them some time let them work.
Imagine the devs face when they watch this and everything you pointed out wasn't "placeholder"
It looks promising. One thing i noticed for my selv was that the hand(arm) seem maybe a little to big in relation to the weapon, or vice versa the weapons looks a little tiny in relation to the hand.
As a Tarkov player, this game looks fucking dope. I'm glad it's clearly going to be directly competing with Tarkov. It forces everyone to improve.
Add more frogs
There is no excuse for unfinished games these days i hope they dont rush this and release a good product
The AI is absolutely a valid point, and the environmental loudness is as well, but having been in Thailand (not where this game is set, but still close), I can say the frogs are loud AF. Still, they gotta balance the sound design for sure.
I don't understand why its so hard to take squad and add Arma's mission editor onto it. That's clearly what we all want but companies don't seem to understand that...
The Grey Day Zone Before Warfare
The ambient animal sounds are fine by me it’s better than just a dead space. It’s more immersive
It would be cool if they added animals to add to the tension
@@rjhick1 yea for sure a little like far cry or red dead
My main issue is performance. It needs optimization I believe. I use an SSD and it still takes more than a minute to load. And it's quite choppy and laggy when in game
Will be a day 1. buy for me.
I’ve recently decided that for the foreseeable future, I will not support these incomplete titles. Finish your game. Period.
Can understand why people complain about the frogs, but it’s such a non issue. I’m a person that instinctively attempts to ID plants as I play games(cus i cant help myself irl), and the fact that this game has taken such great lengths to create a realistic, vibrant ecosystem for the game to be set in is super important, frogs and all. Having parts of the natural world that makes you uncomfortable even when your character is simply walking around in it creates a connection between the player and your character. Yeah, its annoying, it could be toned down slightly, but the wildlife deserves to stay. Makes the land that much more hostile. Bigger things to address in the world building anyway
Yeahhhhh not holding my breath lol
I'm so done with video game hype I don't care who the developer is I don't care if it's somebody that I know personally I refuse to buy into video game hype until I see average people posting gameplay of it proving that it is a competent finished product I'm sick and tired of companies pushing unfinished games on us because they can and they know that we will buy them we as consumers must stand up against this practice and refuse to support any game sold at full price that is unfinished
Well said buddy, players should only pay for finished product, that is the only way to push companies polish the game before release
Better stiff and connected than wobbly and detached...
Looks amazing. MFG have talked a lot about how their AI will act in the game and it’s pretty advanced stuff so I have no worries there. Everything else, it’s all down to it being pre-alpha.
Aren’t real jungles also very loud with all the insect noises and the like?
Where did they talk about ai?
I’ve been following Discord and there’s a lot of chat in there. They have said stuff like, “ When you fire on enemies, they will assess the situation and decide whether to hold their positions, push you, or even get scared and run away.” @@gjdriessen1
Talk is cheap. Working AI that actually feels like it responds to the players actions in a believable manner, making maneuver combat important? Not that cheap, and sth we havent seen yet from these guys.
@@p4nnus Confirmed. Cheap talk.
i have high hopes for this. People crave this type of game. Arma III has horrible ai, horrible assests, horrible character movement and people still play it to this day and go hard. This already has a better look than Arma and Tarkov personally
If they can pull off a six days in fallujah type ai it will be nice….flank maneuvers, grenades, cover, fire, and movement
They need more Blue roofs ! 😅 If you know, you know 😉
no looting is insane lol
I'm pretty neutral right now about this game. Willing to wait and see how it plays out, but honestly I'm not really impressed by anything at the moment, it just looks like a "bigger" Ground Branch.
Also about Tarkov Ai, I've never really thought of the ai to be that good, but imo they are probably the most satisfying to fight in any tactical shooters. I think it might be because they have a very wide range of behaviours that give you the illusion that you are fighting something more intelligent like; looting dropped weapons and containers, leaning to peak corners, going prone when shot at and even throwing grenades at you, some walk around patrolling, others randomly run about then some just hide in corners, eating foods and even healing when they are hurt. I'm pretty sure they are programed to track towards you when you are looting dead bodies and stuff too. Every other tactical shooter I have played, the ai are literally just zombies with guns, they just stand around and shoot, maybe run away when shot at. Tarkov ai itself I think is pretty stupid, like when you shoot at them from too far way, they're just start pathing in a single direction, even if it's directly to where they are getting shot from or they'll just stand up and walk around the corner.
Jungles are deafening. its not the woods/bush.
Lmao 4 guys firing and you still hear the frogs
frogs loud broseph
It's not that the frogs are loud, it's that the gunshots are weak !!
i dont think the frogs are that unrealistic
Bushes don't slow you down?
I'm hoping Gray Zone doesn't focus too much on looting, looting should be secondary in any tactical shooter, not the main objective.
Loot to play, not play to loot.
Gray Zone Tarkov Warfare 3
Yeah no offense to the dev team but I personally think it was still a lil early to show the game off. A lot of little things that add up to be a big thing, hype level went from 100 to maybe a 30...Hopefully they address some of this in the next devblog.
Gray zone warfare frog team 6
I think from the "gamer" side of things, I hear all the complaints and some are understandable. I have faith the devil will fix alot of the little issues, and still make it fun as a game. But it will still not "impress" many gamers.
But as a former overseas contractor or "PMC", they have done a great job so far mimicking how you would approach an op, and weapon handling, and more. Even the medic system they put in to use for the degree of injuries. I know it looks like toilet paper wrapping, and maybe a small chance to more of an ace wrap color or the light green Isreali wrap would hit a little better, but it's still awesome!
Some sounds like weapon need to be a little bit improved. But not really changed, but someone my teammates have worked in SA and other jungle areas and frogs in the middle of nowhere, are really loud and annoying so it seems legit to me if they are going with simulation. From a "gamer" perspective the game will be fun to some and not for others. From the PMC perspective, I am hyped as I'm sure many other in my shows are, for a game like this!!!
The devs will fix*
Dang auto correct lol
Biggest hype train for a game with nearly 0 gameplay available to see
Feel like it's nit-picking, a lot of things are unpolished absolutely, but bruh it's Pre-Alpha, the gameplay loop exists
Ah, bitrate the game
It feels like too much effort is going into marketing too soon. There's a bunch of hype already. First impressions last.
Was the intention of their showcase to show how incomplete the game is? Because that's all I got out of this.
Its a huge red flag for me when devs show half-assed or poorly made features even if its early in development, its like they aren't able to self-evaluate their product before showing it off, especially when its presented in a gameplay video like this rather than a devlog. They might have cool ideas and a beautiful map on ue5 but we have no idea if they're capable of making a good game, and this shows. I could care less about ballistics if the gameplay feels like garbage.
I agree. I dont understand why the devs chose to start hyping up the game at such an early phase, I get the feeling that the game isnt going to be in a early access stage in a very long time and its suspicious that the devs feel this is worth showing.
The fact people are poo pooing this game already blows my mind. This hasn't even had its first play TEST yet really and people are dogging it. How bout you give them a chance to get feedback and make improvements? You all simultaneously complain all day about Tarkov and other games but then give no new game a chance in favor of Tarkov. How long has that game been out and still has tons of issues? Why not let these guys have hell even a YEAR to release the game and get feedback, fix bugs and do updates before you tear the game apart. Unreal. This, game looks, very promising considering it hasn't even released to the public yet to try and give feedback.
The devs of this game chose to put it out there - both for hype and for scrutiny. They chose to unveil what they have at a very early stage, so now they are reaping the benefits and negatives of that.
i think this review is actually too critical
I feel like the community have overhyped the game more then the devs have.
mediocre walking simulator
ussr afghan war
The game looks as generic as possible. Turn the hub off on insurgency sandstorm, and you'd be within 90% the same visuals. The idea looks like a more tarkov version of CodDMZ. But, this game really falls victim to the "its on unreal 5" effect, cool visuals but every other detail is very much lacking. Insert PayDay 3 here.
and people called me crazy when I said it gave me "The Day Before" vibes. Really hope it's real, and if it is, it's gotta be at least 2 years away from a steam early access release.
It's gonna be a total trash game.. mark my word..
Game looks terrible
PvE 🤢
