Nice tutorial Mr Slade. I laughed at the Mr Rogers comment 😂😂
The key to getting that chrome bezel off is to get under the edge and slide the blade around to pop it off. I remember the first time I did this I bent mine up pretty badly. Learned my lesson going forward.
Yes that’s exactly what I did. You might’ve missed that part or something. I think it looks good when they’re all cleaned up.
Inspiration for revamping mine! I thought maybe mine was junk, but I’m fixing my old speedo too now. I’ll send pictures!
Outstanding!! Fix it up my friend! Part #2 tomorrow!
Enjoyed the video. Very informative. Looking forward to pt. 2
Well, that was a very interesting video. And you’re getting very good with that camera work brother Slade. Very professional.
Thank you so much brother, I truly appreciate the kind words. I’m trying to make it more point of view for you feel like you can see it better instead of me standing off to the side. ✌🏻 🙏🏻
Very informative! Thanks Slade!
Thank you so much my friend.
@19:30 No need for an old speedometer cable, just get a square drive (I think it's a #2 square bit for driving deck screws) from the big box. Just be sure to run the drill backwards.
Outstanding! Thank you so much. And I will do that. Now that I’m picturing the cable in my mind, that shows you how stupid I can be. Thank you so much.
I'm in need of doing same "clean and lube" the speedo on my 72. Thanks for this video!
Same here. My glass is real dirty, and may as well lube it while I got it out.
Just a suggestion, to keep from messing up face and needle find a cup, bottle or container that you can sort of lock the inners into. Will protect face of gauge and also give you a support to do all your cleanings!!!
Hey Slade, love the content, thanks for the video.
Thanks my friend I appreciate that.
Your timing of this is good, mine blew up a couple weeks ago. I've never been inside of these. 😁
Excellent, I hope it helps out brother. There’s two videos, part one and two. I hope you’re doing well, my friend.
@@SladesVWBeetle Thanks man, I pulled it out yesterday it looks like it's seized up.
@@DuckmanCycles you’re good brother, once you pull it all apart and lube everything up it should be fine unless there’s a broken gear
@@SladesVWBeetle I think it already busted my new cable too :-(
nice job.
Great video thanks.
Thank you Doug I hope you’ve had a great day.
Yes. Please show how to rebuilt the 68 speedo.
Sure , love to see the one with the fuel gauge.
I probably should do that one also. Not a bad idea I didn’t want to bore everybody with a bunch of speedometer videos. But I guess there are many different kinds.
This is the exact same one that’s in my 58 bug.
I was going to rebuild it but I’m not sure on the parts or kit to order. Also the speedometer doesn’t work in the car but there was nothing inside the wire that screws in the back. I’m really at a loss for words on who worked on this car before me because WOW no 2 screws are alike on this car 😅
We tried making the deck lid sit pretty but nope again nothing matched
Tried getting the single glass to stay up and on track nope! Then I was comparing the other door and they jimmy rigged the door regulator I’m trying to fix 😢
I can see why they sold it!
need to do mine my 71 super i have the fuel gauge in my slade tks!! what year was the other one?? as mine was working i parked for a few years so now it gets up to 32 mph & sorta sticks right there LOL What causes it to 'stick'.. Slade??
I used Nylon Pry Bars, to remove the chrome bezel. I got the idea from another vw yt channel.
I’ve never tried that yet my friend. I really hate prying on the Chrome bezel, although I will tap it back in place. Gives me goosebumps when I see it bending 🤦🏼♂️
@@SladesVWBeetle I'll post the video on the group page.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle Excellent please do!!
@@SladesVWBeetle 👍
dont have a heat gun Will a hair dryer work??
What about using a razor knife to go around the bezel ?
I actually did that once before and broke the tip of it off, the razor that is. I will show putting it back together in about four days, what I do to reshape it easily. Hopefully lol
29.43 was that a snort I heard. 😂
I didn’t recheck it, but it probably was 😂😂
Do LED bulbs require anything different or are they just "plug and play"?
I’m not sure but I will find out, you can count on it. I know with tail lights I believe you have to run some type of relay. I’m going to see with the dash bulbs if it matters.
What’s up Tony!
Hey Rob how are you? Thank you so much for being here.
@@SladesVWBeetle doing good!
I have a super beetle and it has the fuel gauge incorporated into the speedo. If you can I would like to see how that one is done. My speedometer and odometer work and the lights on the bottom for oil, charging and turn signals but fuel not reading proper and no speedo back light.
I’m working on my 74 super. The unit is held in by tension with a rubber gasket and can be pulled out (I used a screw driver to gently pry around). There are connectors on the back bottom of the unit
I probably should do the other one with the fuel gauge too. I wasn’t sure there would be that much interest. Part two of this one will be up in about three or four days. Then I will do the one with the fuel gauge very soon.
Much appreciated Slade.
Keeps freezing up on me, around the 11 minute mark-- I'll try again later.
That’s very strange. Could’ve been good old TH-cam. Thanks for being here brother.
: )
