- In this video we are fishing for catfish in deep water during the summer on Lake Norman in North Carolina. Lake Norman is one of the deepest lakes in North Carolina and home to previous state record blue catfish. Blue catfish in Lake Norman grow to more than 80 pounds, and can be caught on a variety of catfish baits. Fishing for catfish on Lake Norman is good year round, with some of the best fishing for catfish on Lake Norman taking place in the spring. In this video we are fishing for catfish on Lake Norman in the middle of the summer, attempting to catch them in really deep water.

I drift in my kayak on the Potomac with suspended baits and it always produces. Went out yesterday and caught around 30 blues. Biggest was only 16lbs but was still a fun day. Used cut bluegill.

Dang, my lake averages about 5 foot deep. Couple holes at 15' to 18' but they're only reachable from boat. it's a 3000-acre lake but shallow.
Great fishing Dieter, on that dark blue you got, whats some telltale ways of knowing its a male or female fish?

Bringing fish up from that deep, do you need to deflate the bladder?
Are you not having to burp these fish after pulling then up from deep water? I once heard any fish caught from 40 feet down or more needed to be burped

I never see you use live bait, is there a reason??
I tried it for years, and while I would occasionally catch fish on it, I’ve caught far more fish on cut bait than on live bait when fished side by side.
