I have 6 rockets myself. They are hands down my favorite reels for catfish. They are a little pricey but they last forever and if anything does happen to one you can buy every part on them for replacement. As always great video 👍🏻
New sub here from Johnston county, I love catching big blues or flatheads but when you want a good mess to eat it’s hard to beat them 5-10 lb channel cats….. great video and looking forward to catching up on your channel 😎
Love the Ambassadeur reels. I've got 2 of the Record No.60 reels in polished aluminum. Beautiful reels and smooth as butter with the extra bearings. Always wanted a polished rocket like you've got but just didn't ever go for it since I've got the Records. Not to mention all the vintage one piece framed Pro Max with with 8 bearings. 5600-6600 reels are all I've ever needed. I do have an sx7700cl but as you mentioned, it's a bit overkill for cats. The more I think about it, the more ya got me wanting to revisit the shiny rocket!! Thanks man!! Thanks!! 😆 😆 .. Hope y'all enjoyed the fish feast!! Keep safe and keep catching!!
Used to live in Denver only fish Norman a couple of times never had good luck fishing it. Always took off to lake Wylie and mount island. Raised up on those two lakes have a bunch of good spots on those lakes for cats and crappies.
Great video again Sir, are you using the small or large planer boards and are they the in-line boards or regular catfish boards? I would like to try this method out.
Lake James is very few blues, flatheads there but sometimes hard to catch. But loaded with eater size channels. I love using lite tackle to have my fun
@@seymourwrasse3321 there’s not very much on the bank fishing front. James was the last lake that duke power sold the land for homes. It’s my opinion, the homes and boat docks really screwed up the fishing.
Hey Dieter. About to make a trip to Lake Norman tomorrow 5/10/23. Any advice on plan of attack you could share for big cats or lots of eaters? Great video btw!
You fishing my home lake. Just a question was you on the north end or the south end of the lake? I fish lake norman alot and I use chicken all the time.
@@DieterMelhorn you should come fish lake Norman this winter catch the big blues on the south end. From 150 Bridge to the dam is always good. I would love to maybe fish with you sometime.
Have you ever used black saltys? Thinking about using some for cut bait. Let me know what you think, and I really enjoy your videos never used chicken breast until I seen you tare them up
Good video Dieter, what kind of mount are you using for the chest cam, it looks different than a chest mount that wraps around your body or is it because it's black and you jacket is black. Thanks for sharing brother
I have to pipe up about the Abu’s. I found that they were only ok. I can’t recall how many I wore out. Years ago I switched to Akios conventional reels (no winding guides) that had a cast solid body and were equipped with magnets. These out perform any Abu I’ve ever used. But because they were heavy, I switched to American made Avet conventional reels with mags. These are so lightweight and powerful it’s unreal. Not trying to start any arguments here just wanted to point out that there are other great options besides Abu.

Nice catch .. I'm gonna have to try the chicken again
I think it is lake dependent.....but if you have mussels it will likely work

When's the fish fry 😆 good video Dieter!
They were tasty!!!
Nice ! Sometimes it's a good thing to hit on some eaters .

I've been wondering how Lake James was for cats, is there any bank fishing, or is it all boat?
@@seymourwrasse3321 I too wonder and get asked about it a lot.....I need to take an exploratory trip....
Ppl.

@@kellyproctor4138 I've fished off the dock on the far side in the park, but not much success. Getting a boat is next on my bucket list
The pics of lake amd depth in thumbnail. What app do you use or website to find depth charts and topographic map of water your fishing
Navionics….

Any tips on fishing the waccamaw river and intercostal waterways
I've never fished those rivers, but they have blues and flatheads for sure
@@DieterMelhorn that they do. Water has been extremely low and hot here lately.
Have you ever gone into detail on depths you fish at when drifting? I usually do just above the bottom.
I fish the bottom 3'......
When you say home, where is your home lake? I live the same distance from lake Hickory and lake Rhodhiss so I fish them both.
Lake Wylie is 12 minutes from my house.....
Where should you look for catfish in October on Norman?
Gotta love Norman big water
More to come from Lake Norman

Lower end of Davidson Creek.....

Which catfish taste the best blue, channel,or flathead.
blue catfish
Is Lake Norman larger than Jordan Lake? Jordan Lake expands through 4 counties on NC.
Yes, larger than Jordan Lake, but technically Norman is the largest man made lake...
Gonna be a fish fry at the Melhorn ranch ! 😋
Yes sir, we ate good....

I call it a "dog collar camera mount". Its a hard plastic collar that goes around your neck....
@@DieterMelhorn Thanks it looks more comfortable than the other type. Keep the videos coming buddy

Hay pal what's better to eat blue cats or flathead's
Blue catfish!!!
it seems unsanitary to handle raw chicken and then spread it all over your gear. Is there anything you do to sanitize? Thx
Rule #1….don’t lick your fingers!!
That's how you keep your immune system strong. If he's like me he rinses his hands in the lake and has a sandwich.
the key takeaway is WHERE the fish were encountered - not hanging around the shallow water.
Good read sir!
I was surprised to see the Rocket is made in Sweden, the Chinese/Korea Abu reels are pitiful
Stay away from s models. They're cheap!!! ABUs with Sweden (stamped) on side is the only way to go.
Seymour its an amazing reel.......but not cheap
@@DieterMelhorn I saw the prices, if you get down to brass tacks, the price isn't out of the ordinary for higher end brands upper level reels
C3 & 4s are still Sweden made. Most are Pure Fishing junk now sadly.
What lake do you normally fish on?
Wylie, Mt. Island, Norman and Wateree......
No blues around here.few flat head.mostly channel.what is your biggest channel cat.
Heck yeah they all taste like catfish when they come out of the oil
You never concerned with salmonella handling all that raw chicken and touching your reels and rod handles?
Absolutely. It’s why we don’t lick our fingers, handle unwrapped food, etc.
Dieter shoot me a message on Facebook plz I added u thanks
