Hey Troy....I know in watching the video you like the combo of severum, geo, and electric blue acara. I currently have geo tapajos and electric blue acara in my 75. I am contemplating getting a 90 gal. Do you think a 90 would be suitable to a single red spotted severum with a single geo, either tapajos or sveni along with an elecric blue acara. Would likely add some larger corys and 1 or 2 bristlenose. Or is the 90 going to become small for the severum long term? Should I really be looking at a 6ft tank?
I love this series, because it helps me think outside the box as far as tankmates go. What I'm doing is writing myself a future list by tank sizes and what I want to stock them with.

I have a Peruvian green, orange shoulder, red shoulder, rio curare, iniridae, super red spotted gold, red spot gold, gold turquoise, and just recently lost my large green one. Keep the content coming. Oh and I forgot about my red bellied mouth brooder.
Very good Severum video! In a 180 over the last 2 years, I’ve enjoyed raising 6 Red Spotted Severum Cichlids from their baby cream color to their brilliant adult red spots and now, they’re between 4-6 inches. Their Tank Mates were all raised together from babies with the Severums. This is the BEST behaved tank I’ve ever set-up. Tank Mates include one dozen Clown Fish, 12 Chinese Algae Eaters, three 3-4 inch Blue Loaches and one 7 inch Black Ghost Knife. Three large caves and a hollowed out Log allow the smaller Clown fish, Blue Loaches and Black Ghost Knife places to rest and breeding for the Severums. Two MarineLand’s 36” bamboo plants hang from the left and right glass top and dance with the water flow. Black River Rocks lay on top of a white cichlid substrate. My 72 Bow Front has 5 Blue Acaras that you mentioned as a favorite with 12 Clown Fish. Luckily, Clown Fish remind me of very exotic fish, yet, they are very affordable. The larger the school, the more they lose their shyness and play together day and night throughout both tanks.
Severums are so underrated imo, love all of mine and it's the first fish I've ever really bred. Funnily enough, I have a tank with 3 oscars, a red devil x Trimac hybrid, a red tiger motugenese, and a couple of jack dempseys. All of the fish aside from the 2 JD's and the RTM are bigger than the severum, yet the severum is the tank boss. Even borderline bullies the red devil hybrid! My mating pair is so fun to watch too, highly intelligent fs
I have a turquoise severum, i love him so much. Such a cool fish!! He lives with an electric blue acara, and 2 female peacock cichlids, they all are getting along great. Your videos are awesome, thank you.

I understand why this recommendation didn’t make it, but I think Severums go amazing with an arowana. Then down side is you do need either a massive tank, or a pool pond for the arowana. But man do they look amazing together

When I got my redspot severm it was around 20 years ago. I think they were just coming in to the hobby, they looked 1000x better than the ones you see these days. There were properly red and white. These ones I see now just look like gold severms. This is what happens when the bloodlines aren't controlled .
I have 3 green severums and 2 red spot gold severums with some gymnogeophagus balzani. They have been growing out together long enough that the severums have started mimicing the sand sifting behavior like the gymnogeophagus.
I love Balzanis. Definitely putting them with Red spotted, EBAs, and Redhead Tapajos when I set up up my 75. Maybe a Firemouth, angel, and chocolate too.
How do you manage water flow, Severum and Angle fish don't like a high flow aquarium and I think Geophagus prefere a higher flow? I'm starting my first aquarium and I'm trying to gather as much information as I can. Love your channel by the way
I've rewatched this video many times. Been preparing for stocking a 120g with a 30g sump (plus canisters). I am set on 2-3 severums and 3-5 EB Acaras....just wrestling between silver dollars or geos as I don't think 120 is enough for both!
My severum shares a 75g with an angelfish, a German blue ram, and a couple of mollies. I have a baby albino bristlenose pleco in a 5 gallon and he’ll be added when he grows

I am also planning to order from Tampa Bay Cichlids if you have an opinion on them! Sorry for the long comments and thanks!
Thanks for watching! I would say that stock list would be great. Alec has most of these together in his hap tank. The one thing to watch out for - when he ordered juveniles from Tampa Bay Cichlids awhile back, they said "guaranteed males", but a few turned out to be females. Definitely easier to tell when they are slightly older so you can properly vent them.
Male 5-6 inch jack dempsey, 10 inch jaguar female, 2 black 4 -5 inches convicts male female... 135 gal. I want to add my gold spot severum*big and my geo. Brasiliensis 6 inches because they are getting too big for the 55, and also add some dither fish . I'm growing out giant danios and silver dollars. I tried the severum singularly and Jag (10 inch tank boss) was accepting but the Jack dempsey went nuts and beat him up just kept at it so i took him out quickly, I tried the geo singularly and they all just chased him around but couldn't catch him. I'm thinking if I rearrange the tank some more and add some new stuff and take out some stuff and then add the geo severum and the dither fish , let them hang out in their own separate bags and acclimate them all properly. Give jack and Jag time to check them out , maybe this will work... I dunno..
How do you feel about Synspilum cichlid/Redheaded Cichlid/Quetzal Cichlid/Viejas melanarus (I know they have like a million names). I was sold one along with the gold Severum both as babies and actually warned the Severum would be more aggressive. They’re now about 1 year old and doing great (will occasionally chase and show signs of mild-moderate aggression but I really think it’s territory and them outgrowing their tank). The funny thing is the Severum is a very peaceful boy and the Synspilum is the one that’s more territorial. Planning to move them to a 150gal and looking into new tankmates.

I am really wanting to do a peacock tank with severums and acaras. Do you think it would work? I currently have a gold red dot that is about 3 inches long, as well as a turquoise severum that is about 2 inch, and an electric blue acara that is about 3.25 inches. I used to have an OB peacock and a red empress too.as well as 3 angels. They never had a beef that I've seen. I have fallen in love with lthe acara and sevs, their personality is good as theur demeanor.
what about blood parrots? I have few blood parrots and really looking for types of tank mates I can put them with, I heard that you can put severums with blood parrots but I don't know if this true.
Would the red shoulder severum be good with a red spot gold severum in a 110 gallon tank? I also have a blood parrot cichlid with my red spot gold severum.
Its important to also remember that a fish agression can vary from one individual to another, i got a green severum with an oscar, iwas worried the oscar was gonna be aggressive bc of severums being known to be docile, but it turned out all the other way around, my oscar is really peaceful and doesnt disturb the severum at all, but the severum is always really territorial towards the oscar (it hasnt attacked it directly or tried to hurt it, it just constantly bumps into the oscar and makes a territorial display), they theyve been getting along better lately and have actually been sharing spaces (hiding spots, eating spots etc.) lately, i really hope they start tolerating eachother more :D
I have two severums about 3 inches, they're young, a gold and a red shoulder. The red shoulder has started hiding from the gold severum all day due to bullying. Should I remove one? In a 75 gallon
I tried a gold severum and turquoise severum in a 36 then a 55…. I fought and chased Immediately, I took one out then I put them in timeout. They will not get along whatsoever so I have to separate them for life I also have a albino tiger Oscar and a black and gold tiger Oscar. They will not get along at all. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw. All my fish are juvenile. My convict cichlids get along fine and my blood parrots get along fine
I got a red shoulder severum in August (about 2") it will not eat any type of sinking or floating pellets in over a month and only eats bloodworm or blackworms.
I know you're probably not going to believe this but I have a fairly big gold 7 uses big as your hand and I have a green Severance in the same tank a pleco and a blue car and it's a 90 gallon aquarium about 7 months ago I had some extra Guppies didn't have anywhere to put them or give nobody to give them to you so I threw about 20 of them in that big 90 cuz I thought another fish might eat them but actually they didn't and they've been in there all this time and they've actually bred in the Guppies on each other the small ones but the big fish don't pay no attention to him at all I just wondered if you've heard of this before and I'm not trying to be funny the Guppies get along good with the green Severance and the blue car and the big gold server

Its important to also remember that a fish agression can vary from one individual to another, i got a green severum with an oscar, iwas worried the oscar was gonna be aggressive bc of severums being known to be docile, but it turned out all the other way around, my oscar is really peaceful and doesnt disturb the severum at all, but the severum is always really territorial towards the oscar (it hasnt attacked it directly or tried to hurt it, it just constantly bumps into the oscar and makes a territorial display), they theyve been getting along better lately and have actually been sharing spaces (hiding spots, eating spots etc.) lately, i really hope they start tolerating eachother more :D

I have two severums about 3 inches, they're young, a gold and a red shoulder. The red shoulder has started hiding from the gold severum all day due to bullying. Should I remove one? In a 75 gallon

My water is relatively hard in my area with high PH. Not ideal for South Americans but they do just fine as long as parameters are stable

I tried a gold severum and turquoise severum in a 36 then a 55…. I fought and chased Immediately, I took one out then I put them in timeout. They will not get along whatsoever so I have to separate them for life
I also have a albino tiger Oscar and a black and gold tiger Oscar. They will not get along at all. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw.
All my fish are juvenile. My convict cichlids get along fine and my blood parrots get along fine

I got a red shoulder severum in August (about 2") it will not eat any type of sinking or floating pellets in over a month and only eats bloodworm or blackworms.
I know you're probably not going to believe this but I have a fairly big gold 7 uses big as your hand and I have a green Severance in the same tank a pleco and a blue car and it's a 90 gallon aquarium about 7 months ago I had some extra Guppies didn't have anywhere to put them or give nobody to give them to you so I threw about 20 of them in that big 90 cuz I thought another fish might eat them but actually they didn't and they've been in there all this time and they've actually bred in the Guppies on each other the small ones but the big fish don't pay no attention to him at all I just wondered if you've heard of this before and I'm not trying to be funny the Guppies get along good with the green Severance and the blue car and the big gold server

Depends on the tank size, but in a 125 for example, you could probably do around 6 together
I got my 1st severum 2 weeks ago, was really loving him, but now in 24 hours, he killed two of my Albino Heckelii. Will need to find a new home for him :-(
