    • @sirrealgaming6913
      @sirrealgaming6913 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      While that's true it doesn't completely alleviate the issue
      There isn't an option for it to switch targets on target death so you can find yourself in some janky angles in multiman fights
      you have to re lock on manually after every enemy defeated which can get you killed in a bad spot

    • @sombrego2260
      @sombrego2260 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To be fair the game never tells you and when you look at the commands it doesn't show either, it's very strange. And I swear I tried during the demo the right stick and it did nothing. Tried again when I heard there was a lock-on and I was like "ooohhhhhh it changes everything". It's very bizarre the tutorial doesn't tell you about it during the very first battle considering how awful the camera is by default.

    • @rebellyanmagic6409
      @rebellyanmagic6409 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only 'sidequest' in the game (at least from playing the original) is farming the seeds that give your characters their ultimate gear once you've done the second class change. You could only get the seeds from one specific enemy that only shows up in the endgame dungeon, and it was down to RNG on whether you'd get the full gear first time around or the same pieces twenty times in a row.
      But it's not really a sidequest, more that JRPG trope of 'Do you want to spend ten hours getting everyone's ultimate gear to make the final boss more of a cakewalk?'.

    I remember when the only way to play this game outside Japan was through the SNES emulator, and fans passionate enough to translate the whole thing to English so everyone could enjoy. This and Chrono Trigger were the first games I became truly obsessed with. Chrono Trigger has the better story, but SD3 has more replay value solely due to the class changes and character stories.
    For anyone looking to pick this up, I recommend a Duelist Duran-Bishop Charlotte-Grand Divina/Archmage Angela as your first party. With Duelist and Bishop, you get access to every single Saber spell (imbues weapon with elemental effect for bosses weak to it) except Dark Saber (which IIRC I rarely used outside of one boss). Duran is your bog standard tank regardless of class change, Charlotte is the fastest and best healer in the game as Bishop, and Grand Divina/Archmage is the most powerful offensive magic user with the best variety of elemental spells.

    One of my favourite games of all time, up there with FFVI and Chrono Trigger in the same era. Great review, and I can appreciate why the reviewer feels more side quests can be added to flesh up the world better. Consider how well FF7R did with that, ToM could have done a bit more on that. That said, everything else is just so darn charming of this game, I can overlook that. One thing I wish the reviewer had mentioned is that insane amount of replay value of this game. Everyone should at least play the game twice to get all the stories of each of the characters, let alone trying out different classes and character combinations.
    A game that we've waited for 25 years, so happy it finally here.

      Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time, so part of me hopes you're right. The other part of me doesn't want them to touch Chrono Trigger, as I don't believe modern day Square Enix will respect the legacy of the original game or do right by its enormous fan base.

    • @anttheknee1372
      @anttheknee1372 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Mike V final fantasy was definitely NOT a test run for chrono trigger. That wouldn’t make much sense. However a majority of the fans don’t seem to even want a remake because they say it’s timeless but most want some sort of sequel. I personally never played the game but would like to try it

    • @mikev8746
      @mikev8746 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@anttheknee1372 No I said ToM was a test run for possible further remakes from that era. FF7R is just extra experience and a foundation for FF8R/FF9R. And I dont understand why people would vote against a remake. Yes its an interesting new thing compared to the sequelization of gaming up till now. To be fari, while he did forget to mention the lock on feature the camera is still really bad even with it. That was honestly my only complaint with the demo as well. The game has a pretty bad camera compared to other 3rd person action rpgs. But camera is often kind of annoying in these types of games to begin with. It will take a bit of getting use too but likely won't affect the overall experience in a negative way.

    Each character has at least 2 types of ending, depending on who is on your team. Also depending on who you choose as your main. I have already seen people using Kevin as main, but with different characters on the team, have different story routes and ending. Also sometimes you do get some special link abilities when you spoke to some NPC, so if you just skip speaking to all the NPC without the stars guide, then you will be going to miss out on those link abilities.

One note, with the unnecessary dialogue of NPCs in town, you can just look for a star in each town to find where the important dialogue is and aside from having to talk briefly with shop keepers, you can ignore everyone else and just go to the starred peeps for key info to move the game forward.

    3:21 - So, you love it when a remake is faithful to the original, then complain when it's too faithful to the original?

      At the very start of the video he clearly states “This faithfulness is a bit of a double edged sword”

    Rather play be in a huge world with no sidequest than a single expanded city with repetitive sidequest.

    The could also be a 3D remake of Live-a-Live and Bahamut Lagoon.

      How about Treasure of the Rudras? Probably a nightmare to localize, but not altogether impossible as the fanbase has proven...

    You haven't played Chrono Trigger, have you? :)

      Chrono Trigger was phenomenal to be sure, but the mana series was made by the same company and Trials of Mana for the SNES was also incredibly impressive when compared side by side to CT.

      @@nintandao64 Yeah, the Mana series was definitely amazing. But Chrono Trigger had this magic that no other game had during that besides Final Fantasy III. It was a game that came out of left field with nearly no marketing before release, very little attention and an absolute pleasant surprise. It stood out from the rest and it held up very well.

      @Shaman Xeed I disagree. Chrono Trigger had bigger and better sprite design compared to Mana in my opinion.

    Even though trials of manais gonna be an amazing game and the score is fair. But your telling me that FFVII REMAKE deserves the same score as this game?

    Actually, no npc sidequests is a big plus for me. Since my OCD forces me to do litteraly every sidequest available and dropping the game at the end because of being bored to too many sidequests...

    you complain about camera, yet you dont use lock-on mode
    and you can set ur AI members to avoid battle

    Certain abilities can only be learned by talking to certain NPCs so not talking to NPCs will put you at a disadvantage
