Welcome back to yet another Mortal Kombat video!
Now In todays episode, we’re gonna be tackling another member of the Black Dragon faction, the speedster of the series, Kabal!
Now Kabals has had a number of different changes and alterations to his character ever since his Inception In MK3 so In order to go over his 3 different origins, we will be diving all the way back to that of the original continuity In order to learn, just who Exactly is cabal?

Kabal and Erron are my two mains. Shame that they are so underdeveloped, they each deserve their own chapter
They are so similar too. Erron Black has a lot of the old Midway Kabal’s story elements like both being former members of the Black Dragon, both being rivals of Mavado and being nearly killed by him/left for dead. Both are mysterious nomads.
Erron is def one of my favs from the reboot such an original character with the whole cowboy vibe etc .
They always could have done a lot with those two.

Mavado was a Liquid snake his stealth involved using the special forces to wipe out the black dragon hell in the new timeline he whooped Kano and Erron Black at the same time yes he got slandered by the Kombat kids but even Shinnok couldn't fight that plot armor
Mavado has a cool design his powers just sucked Ass
@Tony Infinite- Mavado is trash. He was wiped out and never returned. Has had zero relevance in the MK games for 15 years. He’s garbage dude. Pump him up all you want but he sucks. He has as much relevance as Mokap or Meat
I like Kabal’s voice actor in mk11, how he is portrayed in story mode is questionable to say the least but his voice feels right for the character and softens me to him
Agreed I don't know the actor who voices him in MK11 but he does a good job he is right there with Troy Baker who does Erron Black in terms of skill lol
Yeah unpopular opinion but I much prefer his cocky MK11 voice over his darth vader lite voice from MK9 🤷🏻♂️

Considering revenants in MK11 don't have altered voices it's safe to assume - that's simply how young, cocky scumbag Kabal sounded like during his Black Dragon days.
His MK9 voice is of an already matured, reformed and later disfigured Kabal.
It’s the same guy that voiced captain cold in injustice 2
Mk9 Kabal sounded more calm and collected. The best part was that he was voiced by Kenpachi Zarakai from Bleach.
I hate how they retconned him in MK11. MK9 gave his character much more depth being reformed Black Dragon, becoming a cop to make amends, getting injured & upgraded by Kano but sticking to his convictions & staying good. Now he's a random asshole like Sindel.😤
MK 11 ruined a lot of characters. They killed off the well developed MK9 and MKX Scorpion to go back to the old "angry hellspawn" version, turned Shao Kahn from one of the main villains to a random henchman, wasted a chance for a story involving people from all the realms working together to stop a corrupted Dark Raiden from destroying all the other realms in an extreme attempt to protect Earthrealm in favour of time travel bullshit caused by Shinnok's never before mentioned mother and siblings, Sindel was retconned from a good person brainwashed into being Shao Kahn's wife to being evil and in love with him. Sonya was killed at the beginning and replaced with a past version of herself and worst of all had Ronda Rousey for a voice actress. And Johnny Cage who went from a parody of Hollywood actors in the other games to a pretty good character in 9 and X through helping save Earthrealm from Shao Kahn. Even though he'd originally entered the tournament just to show off he quickly realised how serious things were. And in X he trained the next generation of fighters but in 11 he's replaced with his comedic parody self.
MK11 is an awful game storywise

@@Xehanort10 don’t forget the ruination of Kotal Kahn, shinnok and now with the stupid inclusion of woke Jax who makes dumb decisions to defend his daughter. Kitana too considering her push in mk11 (although I don’t agree with kitana beating Shao) went to nothing
He had a cool voice in MK11 too
i still say that Kabal is highly underrated and i always love seeing him using the shuang gou (as they're called in chinese) and i loved his story in MK 9 as it really did gave him a character arc before he died from Sindel wished they did more for him.
yeah like honestly Kabal is like one of my Top 3 favorite MK character alongside with Reptile and Scorpion

I once heard someone say that Kabal and Darth Vader are similar characters, I don't see it: Kabal is a character who has been known to switch sides with the good/bad guys while also being burned alive and hideously scarred, needing a breathing apparatus to live, and also having an iconic sword-like weapon that is not like a normal sword, and also being mentored by a sinister person (Havik) to turn him into a bad guy, and is heavily associated with the color black.

Kabal wasn’t burned in the original continuity. His face was slashed up, and his windpipe was slit open. That is why he wears the mask and the respirator. It wasn’t until MK9 that his injuries would be changed and he would be burned alive by Kintaro.

I actually like Kabal, he's very snarky in MK11. Kabal's just an all-around cool character and I do enjoy watching his speed coupled with the way he uses those hookswords.
I did enjoy listening to his deep voice in MK9 and his reformed-criminal storyline.

Kabal is one of my favorite characters in Mortal Kombat. Personally I see him more as a Neutral character. An Anti-Hero.
He is one of my favorite characters in Mortal Kombat too. Yeah, he is pretty grey character. More of an Anti-Villain.

How ironic that MK9 took the effort of giving Kabal a good redemption retcon backstory only to have it flushed down the retcon toilet in MK11. Best story for Kabal was MK9 and the worst was definitely MK11 since he was reduced to jobber status.
I’m so glad that Kabal was done justice in the movie. He’s my favorite character from the games and while he didn’t have the biggest role in the film, he was still badass.

I wish Kabal had a Chapter in MK11.
It would be revolving around Past Kabal confronting his Revenant form. His revenant would taunt him saying that being the good guy will get you killed. Past Kabal would have to debate weather to join the forces of light, or resume his alliance with The Black Dragon. I would sorta give it the same treatment that Liu Kang and Kung Lao had with their Revenants in the game.

I just hope the movie does him justice as opposed to being a throw away character. Give him a backstory in the movie like MK DOE cartoon series. At least there they went with him redeeming himself by allying himself with Earth realm.
I have seen the movie and i can say he is definitely NOT a throwaway character in the film. He has a decent amount of scenes, lots of dialogue and unlike most of the other villains in the movie such as Reptile, Reiko and Nitara, Kabal actually directly affects the plot of the film which i won’t spoil and he has really good fights. And he definitely puts up a fight. Even winning at most points. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏🙏

I agree he's an extremely skilled martial artist with hook swords and on top of that he has Flash/Quicksilver-like speed, so logically he's SUPER OP, so I guess for the story they had to nerf him which sucks cause he's such a cool bad ass character!!!

@Jacob Painter- See that’s the right way to look at it. Kabal’s always been my most favorite character in all of MK but i’ve wanted to see him in live action for soooo many many years. I was so disappointed when he was excluded from that web series a few years back because i felt for live action MK which is rare enough, that was his last shot. I am happy he’s in the movie. I have seen it and i can safely say he is not a jobber as some worry. 🙌🙌🙌 they did him perfectly. Decent screen time, decent amount of dialogue and great fight scenes.

I've always though Kabal was such a bad ass character . The speed aspect ,his look , the hook weapons etc everything about him was bad ass and they didn't completely shit on him in the reboot ether .
I'm so anxious for the next Mortal Kombat. I want to see which ending Netherrealm continues on with, yet I really want to a prequel, showing the origins of the tournament

Ironically, I feel one of the best adaptations of Kabal was from the cartoon, Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm. He had one episode that really humanized him beyond just being a henchmen with hook swords.

The retcon ruined him and makes no sense. If he was a former police officer turned black dragon, how'd he get burned? How'd he end up on the good side which ultimately led to his death by Sindel along with the rest of the heroes?

In the 2nd mortal Kombat movie, Sheeva does say to Shao, "we've captured Kabal and Stryker" while in the throne room.

See, I thought the past characters in the MK11 story mode came from different points in the past. Everyone who appeared at what was supposed to be Kollector’s execution came from the moment when Kung Lao had beaten Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, but that doesn’t add up for most of the other characters that appeared elsewhere. At that moment, Jax wouldn’t have had his cybernetic arms yet, having just had them torn off by Ermac, Johnny would’ve had a broken leg, also from Ermac. That made me think the past Kabal was from a time before he turned good. The fact that he was a revenant means his part as a good guy in MK9 would have to still stand, right?

Different timelines
His revenant/future self is the one who selflessly defend earthrealm with Raiden and the others but got wiped out by Sindel.
Continuity is not in NRS’s dictionary. Raiden’s also messed up the timeline quite a lot to have Kronika so determined to be rid of him so I’m thinking he received the visions in more than one timeline so perhaps everything not matching is just the past characters from a slight different timeline from MK9. This is just my theory that I’ve stuck with to answer all the continuity. 🤷🏻♀️
