Call it whatever, Adam Fox can be the second best defensemen his whole career, next to Makar. But he will always lose a lot of respect from most true hockey fans. If you refuse to sign with whoever drafted you. You're just another spoiled kid who should've never made it. I guess it's not surprising he was a Harvard guy, and most likely a trust fund kid. I hope he never wins a Cup out of spite for refusing to sign with the team who drafted you and had the most amount of faith in you, by drafting you before anyone else did.
Not to mention, that Norris he won last year should've been Makars🤣🤣🤣✌️. This almost only happens with American players. Imagine if Canadians did the same thing and went to their favourite Canadian teams.....all the sudden the NHL would make a rule, cause the Cup would NEVER leave Canada. That's just a fact.
@@AshtrayAnnie Not necessary true. John Elway was a first overall pick in the NFL and refused to sign with the Colts when he was drafted. He then got signed by Denver and became their best QB ever. Even sticking with Hockey, i think most true hockey fans respect Eric Lindros (except the ones in Quebec)

I just pride myself on having integrity, and I have a huge respect for people who have the same. Eric Lindros was one of the only Canadians to ever do this (not to mention he forced the hand, in a way different spectacle) and if you do your research on the actual subject you'll see why he refused to sign. That's a big difference from Adam Fox who would literally only sign for one team. 🤣. Imagine if players from Toronto did that. Toronto would never lose, and Americans would have the worst hockey teams in the NHL. That's just a FACT.
Lindros is the most significant "refuse to play" in history. Brought the Avs a cup.

Forget the other guys, the way the Canucks lost Bure is just unacceptable on so many levels. That was the guy that could've taken you to the promised land, and that's how you treat him? Absolutely despicable management. I'm sure the entire Canucks fanbase would love to just erase the Messier era out of the history books completely because holy shit, was it ever a terrible time to be a Nucks' fan.

That was very amusing. Yashin was a star though at the time and Ottawa's captain... so very selfish decision by Yashin. Though what Ottawa got back for Yashin aka Jason Spezza and Zdeno Chara... I think things worked out well for Ottawa in the end.
Once he was traded to the Islanders, yashin gave ZERO fucks.

@Mike Schwab Bure played in a very tough time to be a skilled player. Always had to have your head up to make sure you wouldn’t get blind sided. Also had guys bear hugging you, interfering. Just makes what he was able to do all that more special. His end to end dashes look a lot like Connor Mcdavid’s.
@Mike Schwab I agree goaltenders have gotten better, but look at the 90s NJ devils neutral zone trap. Impossible to replicate that level of defensive play now, because it involves a ton of penalties in todays game.

Eric Lindros refused to play for the Quebec Nordiques when they drafted him. Now that's a story.

In most cases, I can see both sides to a story. But in Lindros' case no. Every Canadian kid growing up playing hockey knows how the draft works. No hockey player can hit 18 and say "I get to pick the team I play for,".... because that's not how the draft works. What I would have done, had I been Lindros is say, "I'll sign a 3 year contract, but in that contract will be your promise that I will be traded before the end of the first season. I'll play my guts out for you, but you have to promise to trade me. If it's not in my contract, then I promise you will not get ten goals out of me."

Most people do not understand the politics of hockey in Quebec or the background to the situation Lindros was caught in. Nordiques represented Quebec nationalist sentiment and a star hockey player whether he likes it or not would be a poster boy for independence. A referendum had taken place where 49 percent voted in favour of separation from Canada. The risk that Lindros had in going to Nordiques in an separated Quebec was high - he would end up being a pariah in the hockey hockey world outside of Quebec with zero personal marketing potential. Any regular player had no such risk - the whole circumstances had to do with politics of the time.
Just for the Adam Fox trade, Lindholm is looking like the Flames best player and Hanifin is doing great on our blue line while Hamilton is in New Jersey and Fox is in New York! And for Ferland I have no idea where he is, so I think Flames got the better deal!
Yes but Hamilton was unquestionably the best player from the deal and that roster shakeup put the canes back on track. Lindholm wasn't going to be anything in Carolina so even though Calgary won the trade objectively, things have gone so well for the canes that I wouldn't risk changing it

I wouldn’t say Eichel “refused” to play rather so the management just are complete idiots and forced Eichel to not play for them after not allowing him to get his preferred surgery. And I only say he didn’t “refuse” because he said he still would’ve played for Buffalo he they let him get his preferred surgery. So not so much a refusal to play but more so got forced out
I would say refuse is the right word but it is a very good reason to refuse.

The Sabres forced him out of the lineup and like I said, Eichel even said he would’ve played for the Sabres had they let him get his preferred surgery. So he didn’t refuse to play for him, the Sabres simply didn’t trust the surgery forcing Eichel out of the organization

Jack Eichel was asking for trades prior to even being injured because he didn’t want to go through another rebuild… once they figured out that Taylor Hall wasn’t the answer and is only good as a 2nd liner on stacked teams like Boston, the writing was on the wall (IE the team was again bottom feeding).
He was gone regardless, but it is 100% true he didn’t refuse to play, the Sabres just didn’t want to let him get the surgery but he 100% did NOT want to stay in Buffalo even before that

My favorite was Kevin Hayes with the hawks. Chose to go for a bunch of money in his entry level deal(bonuses) and ended up losing out on a cup because he didn't want to compete for a roster spot in Chicago
I forget what happened after the Sharks drafted Ray Whitney back in 1991. But he couldn’t return to his junior team and had to go play in Germany and the independent IHL while waiting to reach an agreement.

This video is awesome because we always say “it’s more than just a game” in a positive connotation but it is just more than a game and there’s people’s lives at play so it is ultimately their choice, look at pronger leaving Edmonton for his wife and what not. I never played pro or anything but I always played competitive so anyways I had moved away from my small hometown when I was 12 and obviously didn’t know anyone when I moved out here, so I just signed up for hockey and went in blind. Well lucky for me I met an amazing coach, Rob, and played for him for the next two years. 3 or 4 years down the road have met tons of people out here and I end up running into the same coach at evaluations. I remember just having a real good talk with him and told him I was gonna play for him no matter what division he was coaching. Well, draft comes around and I get a call from the div 1 team and I ask if he coach’s with Rob, no dice so I thank him for the offer and we move on. Same thing with the Div 2 coach and this time this coach is not very happy when the call ends so I kinda felt bad. Not even a minute goes by and I get a call from Rob and we ended up winning the championship that year.
Pavel bure was one of the most insane stick handlers ever. I’m so glad my dad loved him so I actually got to watch him play

@@gordanblansky7137 I’m simply saying that it’s the same idea. Just because a player chooses to not report to the team that drafted them doesn’t mean they team should be given compensation. The tens have interviews with the players and agents before the draft, they have an good idea if the player doesn’t want to be there.
They do if they're higher draft picks I think first rounders get a 2nd rounder as compensation.
Bure was easily the most explosive skater ever.
Jonathan Drouin and his agent decided that he wanted to be traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2016 and refused to report for his Syracuse Crunch assignment to pressure Stevie Y. That didn't go well for him, and it forced him to eventually play again. He was later traded to the Canadiens in 2017 for Mikhail Sergachev, which I think most would agree worked out well for Tampa.
On the bright side, it looks like Tage Thompson is well on the way to becoming a superstar player for the Sabres

Eric Lindros is one of the more memorable ones... I still remember a classic call out of the refusal was done in the Game 1 intro of the 1996 Cup finals...

Rangers' fan here. In a way, it's too bad that Fox signed with us. If he had signed with the Flames, he would have worn those red uniforms, and more people would see the similarity between Fox and The Crimson Chin. MAN, does Fox have a chin!
I am glad fox is not in Calgary . we all know that the eastern hockey writers gave him the norris because of their eastern bias , Calgary has fed on eastern teams so far this year 20 games in . 2 game total point this year between the strangers and flames is 10 -1 .
I don't know about you, seeing as he's 23 and our best player, I'm glad he wound up in New York.

3:53 Name the team that was willing to give up a franchise piece for Eichel... the whole point of acquiring him is to increase your chances of winning the Cup, so it makes little sense to send a franchise piece from your core back to Buffalo in the process... especially given the injury concerns

It’s funny how you detail what happened to Bure in Vancouver. Almost nobody in Vancouver actually knows the real details. I was a huge fan and never heard a peep about this during his time in Vancouver. It was never said in the media at the time, and all the hockey talk shows in town insinuated Bure was a spoiled brat and prima donna.
Worst of all was the story told to media that Bure threatened management to sit out during the 1994 playoffs if his contract demands weren’t met.
One can only presume the real problem was that the team wasn’t prepared to spend the sort of money Bure could demand, and would prefer to risk the disaster that unfolding rather than reach deeper into their pockets and be blamed for losing him. I hope more people become aware of what really happened.
On a side note, how the hell could Bure’s agent not notice the contract was in CA dollars and not US dollars?? Bizarre.

Throughout my childhood the Buffalo Sabres were the bane of the Eastern Conference with great players like Mike Peca, Miroslav Satan, Mike Grosek, Stu Barnes and a line up of heavy hitters like Barnaby, Rob Ray all backed up by Dominick Hasek. That team was a perennial playoff contender.
Throughout my childhood as well….Gilbert Perrault, Pierre Turgeon, Pat LaFontaine, Alex Mogilny, Dale Hawerchuk, Phil Housley, Tom Barrasso, Hasek, Puppa, sauvè….the list goes on….but believe it or not Buffalos best chance to win a cup was in 1993….we had a major powerhouse squad with Mogilny, LaFontaine, Hawerchuk, Andreychuk….in the second round Hrant Fuhr got hurt and we had an unknown Hasek on the bench….we rushed to get Fuhr back instead.

As for Jack Eichel, his value in the trade must have been impacted by his physical condition. After the surgery and rehabilitation, there is no 100% guarantee that he will be back playing at the same level as he did before. This IMHO explains the return from the Sabres.
Eichel never really got the chance to get healthy after this last neck injury. The Sabres kept pushing him back to the lineup before he was 100%.
Bure and Odjick are still good friends to this day. Whenever Bure visits Vancouver he stays at Odjick's place in South Vancouver.

The eichel trade was acc good for buffalo cuz they got a winger with elite potential in krebs and a solid top 6 guy in tuch. They also got a 1st and 2nd rounder which are very valuable now, especially since vegas isn't a playoff team anymore. Eichel made their team worse, they went 14-14-1 when they were playing him compared to having a winning record and being a top 2 team in the pacific. Vegas just got a 3rd and a crybaby. Jack Eichel also wanted out of Buffalo and everyone knew it, they just didn't have a ton of leverage, so for their situation, I think they did pretty good.
I don’t think people realize the cost if Buffalo retained, if it was only 2 mill a year that’s 10 mill over the 5 remaining and I doubt a first round pick is worth 10 mill especially from a competitive team (most likely 20th or later pick)

I had the opportunity to talk candidly to Brian Burke years ago. Burke took over from Pat Quinn who did not honor a clause in his contract stemming from the 94-95 lockout that Quinn/Ownership would not honour. Festered for a few years to the point Bure said that's it, no pay no play. Burke said he tried to talk him back but it was too caustic a situation by then. Pat Quinn supposedly blew the Gretzky deal as well by trying to strong arm #99, Gretzky was having no part of that and signed with the Blues. So as much as I liked Pat Quinn he screwed us out of more Pavel Bure and having Gretzky. Imagine those 2 together.

The return for Fox in the trade to New York is a little inaccurate. Carolina traded the 2019 2nd to Ottawa (who drafted Sogaard) but they themselves turned that into another 2nd and a 3rd that become Jamieson Rees and Antoni Honka.
1:25 Actually, in hindsight, the O'Reilly is looking quite good for the Sabres... they have a 24 year old, 6'7 center in Tage Thompson who has 44 points in 57 games this season compared to O'Reilly putting up 39 points in 56 games this season...
If you think Tage Thompson is better than O’Reilly is you dont know hockey. O’Reilly won a cup as arguably the best player. Dont tryn make that trade seem good lol

You are overating how simple eichels recovery is. Its not at all a guarantee he returns to form. Return to mobility rate is 87%, most surgeries its 95-99%. He could technically just get the fusion if the disc replacement that he got doesnt work but movement will never fully recover at that point.
Problem is the neck fusion is basically borrowed time. He would have to retire after 6 or 7 years at most. With the disk replacement, he has a better chance of having a longer career. Neck fusion would also limit his head mobility too since turning his head with a fused spine is rather difficult
