    mate - this is favourite song ever ....it reminds me of my teens with my big sister. I'm a old man now and only started playing guitar 5 years ago ...this lesson is golden and has allowed these old hands to play a very special song to me...can't thank you enough for helping me achieve this ...you're a star.

      Never give up dude,, I've got songs down that have taken years to learn,, but got there in the end,, Ian Anderson is a phenomenal acoustic guitarist,,, most tull songs will take loads of practice to get them fluid 👍

    I want to share something with You dear Snoozedoctor and with the community:
    After two month of training I recognized that I'm now able to play "Wondering aloud" without staring to the tutorial, to find out, where I have to lay my fingers next. Ok, it's really not fluently, the tones are not always clear and my little finger refuses the G-expanded absolutley. My progress shows me that I can continue to improve and that nothing stands in the way of becoming a female Ian Anderson (except my pinky).
    So I decided yesterday to drive the long way to Stuttgart (a city in Germany near Großbottwar) to buy a new guitar, which will be my companion on my way. That was not easy. All guitars I tried made not much difference to my spanish Rodriguez. They had steel-strings instead of nylon-string because I asked for a western guitar, but my fingers felt more stiff and immovable than on my Rodriguez - I didn't unerdstand it - maby my fingers had hold the steering wheel to long.
    The Salesperson got more and more bored and in a mood of final desperation he went to a dark colored Guitar with an smaller corpus and a shorter neck. He gave it in my hands and I started with the "C" of "Wondering aloud". I was immidatly surprised because my fingers felt well and it sounds full and clear. So I went on to "A-minor and up to my crooked tone of "G-expanded" - but... it didn't toned crooked! It didn't toned as if someone is closing a trashcan. It sounds full, clear, clean and wonderful.
    The salesman and I looked astonished in each other eyes and said at the same time "That is it!". I tried some things more, confirmed my decision and took this wonderful little brown new friend home. It is a Martin 000CJR -10E StreetMaster. The small size with the short neck is exactly what I need and I love it's sound. I'm so happy!

    • @snoozedoctor
      @snoozedoctor  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My pinky is a wild child. It never wants to go where I want it to go, so I know what you mean. I just looked up the Martin 000CJR. Looks like a really nice instrument! I'd love to give one a try!

    • @mulberrywood4529
      @mulberrywood4529 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The longer I practice on the Martin 000CJR, the more wonderful it sounds to me. It sounds full and clear. The tones are very differentiated and every single string seems to sing. The fact that it seems that way to me may be due to the overtones, which can be heard much more clearly on the little Martin than on my other guitars. It's body vibrates in such a way that I can also hear it in my chest and stomach. It's almost like a therapeutic sound treatment. It was a real stroke of luck that I discovered it.
      Maybe that's how every good guitar should be and what I'm describing here bores a master like you. However, I also have to tell you that I retuned the Martin 000CJR to DADGAD to try "One Brown Mouse". That was a real Celtic hammer sound that completely blew me away!

    Thank you so much. I'm not good at picking and I am learning just the chords but I might try a few small parts of the more detailed aspects of this beautiful song. I've had the Aqualung album since I was 17 in the 80 s and never imagined I would be able to strum the chords to this in my 50s. I m also learning the acoustic parts of Aqualung. I think the suggestion made for a solely acoustic lesson of Aqualung would be great if you could do this 😀 thanks so much for your very patient examples and clear explanations. Great lesson!

Specially that first riff on "G chord/ 5th string bass" at "Skating way"... Only You attempted for that thing... great job! Sorry for bad english...

    thats great thanks i knew ians wife before he married her she took me to a tull concert in london i was not into them then we also went to a few other concerts together. stranger still Ians father in law dated my mother for a short while when both their respective spouses had passed away. Small world really. This is probably my favorite Tull song although some of their rockier stuff is good. I preferred captain beefheart who was tulls support act for a while.

      @snoozedoctor  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, that's a great connection. Was this Shona or Jennie Franks? I think it's somewhat ironic that Tull's greatest hit, Aqualung was probably the only Tull song he didn't write all the lyrics to. I saw Captain Beefheart open for Tull in '72. The crowd wasn't much into them, and they had technical issues that night, but I enjoy them.

I think beefhearts backing bands were of the highest quality actually i think in some ways they were much more creative than Ians

      I was born and raised in the South West of Germany, the wine country left of the River Rhine, where "Father Rhine bends his knee" as we say, easily to find on Google Maps.
      The unique "Terroir" where we grow our white Riesling and red Burgundy grapes since the Romans came for a brief visit, about 2,000 years ago. And we rather drink the wine ourselves before selling it to some "new money", who even ask for ice cubes during a wine tasting or buy wine just by the highest pice
      You may ask what does that has to do with guitar strings- A lot! It's pretty binary: For me there are no good or bad strings. There are strings i like and use (1) and I don't like and will not use (0). The binrary for wine is slightly different: There are wines I don't even ignore (-), wine I like (0) and wines I like more, the more I drink of them (1).
      Does that even makes sense? I wonder...
      P.S.: What guitar are you using in this tutorial? Looks D-45ish to me

      @@KlausJWeyerhaeuser "Wine is the only liquid that when on the palate, forces one to think." Not the exact quote and I don't remember where I read it. I love wine. I love Germany. Was in the Stuttgart area in 2015 visiting the family of an exchange study we hosted for a school year. My mother's family immigrated from GroBbottwar (near Ludwigsburg) some generations ago. Lautenschlager surname.
      I'm eager to try those strings. I'm intrigued now. The guitar in this video is a 1990 Collings OM3. Wonderful instrument.

    I struggle going from strumming to picking notes in that I land on the wrong string randomly. I try to go slowly and then speed up, but even when slow I miss. Do you have suggestions for how to approach this skill? Thoughts on technique errors that might need to be corrected? I cannot tell if, when you transition back to picking after strumming whether you are planting a finger (maybe pinky) or edge of your palm as a reference or if you stay floating. Many thanks for the excellent lesson! If you think a different song would be a better start, I'm all ears. My goal is to learn Anderson's style. My background is really fingerpicking and a more classical position. Thanks!
