    Wow! I went offline for a vacation and came back to this gem. Wonderful tutorial Doc. Thanks for filling up my learning chart with all of these superb songs from the Living in The Past album, I've got it back up spinning on my turntable to help me learn. Looking forward to more of Ian's gems (Nursie perhaps).

    This is such a quintessentially English song-the lyrics are a constant cultural reference to Blackpool in the 1960's and are a delight for somebody like me who used to holiday there as a kid in the 1960's-"edward Bear" will be "Edward (Ted) Heath the prime minster at the time-"jam sarnies" is local slang for jam sandwiches -great lesson -I still have the UK "EP" which had this,life's a long song & nursie on it-all in the same acoustic style and all utterly magical.Many thanks.Life's a Long Song must just be a contender for my funeral list!!!

    This came up on my feed out of the blue...Jethro Tull is a favorite of mine, especially Ian Anderson’s acoustic playing and music writing.
    This was a great video, I like the
    Ian-ism explanations a lot. I would’ve love to see you play through the whole song one time.
    I’ll be looking at your other videos for sure though!
    Cheerio!!!

    Thanks, I learned another one! I think the Am chord makes a great ending. A little hint of regret after all the happy memories of the beach.

      Very true! He frequently ends on minor chords that don't necessarily relate to the key of the song. Always sets an interesting mood.

    Great lesson. Thanks for putting this up. A very under rated songwriter and player. His stuff is not so easy to play so thanks for posting this. I will have a go.

    Great lesson, cheers. Just a bit of info on lyrics. I belive the line mentioning Edward Beer is actually "Blame it on Edward Pier". As in Edward Heath, the "Pier" and Piminister of UK at the time you state.

    • @snoozedoctor
      @snoozedoctor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Yeah, I always heard the lyric as "Edward Pier." If you google the lyrics, you'll find that most, but not all, have the lyric as "Edward Bear." Listening carefully, honestly, l can't make out one from the other. Looking at Edward Heath's history, I wasn't able to establish a connection to pier or bear. I think either works!

    • @anthonyandrew6725
      @anthonyandrew6725 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok. Adding to the debate I have a Living In The Past songbook from 1974, where the Lyric is stated as Edward Pier. I think this is Ian Anderson playing on words, substituting Pier for Peer (as in Knight of the Realm). Blackpool has three large piers. Heath didn’t receive his peerage until 1992, but Anderson would have grown up with previous heredity peers as Prime Ministers. Just my two cents. These tutorials are fantastic.

    Hey snooze doctor !! thank you so much brother .. you got it down ... much appreciated . I think only one slight mistake at the end . I could be wrong but I reckon its a Amin 7 rather a straight Am at the final chord ... You da man ... tell me what ya reckon bro .

    Thanks for the tutorial! What a song! Ian certainly wrote wonderful, great classics around that time.
    By the way, the English prime minister from 1970 to 1974 was Edward Heath, known as Ted Heath.

    • @snoozedoctor
      @snoozedoctor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenhaywood1195 I think so. I always thought the lyric was "Edward Pier" but that doesn't make sense. The piers in Blackpool are named North, Middle, and South piers. I read somewhere that he was referring to Edward Heath.
