    I own a few high-end USA 🇺🇸 made knives. Imo TRM is one of the best USA made knives and especially for the price! I own the TRM Atom and Neutron both with lizard Ti scales in 20cv and I'd never get rid of those knives.
    Great score Rollo! 👊🏼🔥

    Congrats on yer new Neutron! TRM’s DLC looks nice, but I tend to favor uncoated blades, especially with a highly corrosion resistant blade steel.
    I just received my “perfect” version of the Neutron yesterday; an Irie HG MagnaCut N2 w/ lizard scale Ti. It’s the ideal companion for my Irie Atom. 🤠

      I bet yours is super slicy with that Mike irie grind! Congrats on the pickup🍻

    • @Graham_Rob
      @Graham_Rob 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Rollshambo thanks you too! It is slicy but the lowest BTE is still only 17. With the irie grind the plunge goes all the way to the edge so the grind at the heal looks pretty bad :/ otherwise I’m in LOVE with the knife

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Graham_Rob people get hung up on bte, but what makes a big difference is the blade geometry as a whole stays thinner throughout the blade than just about anything giving it excellent material pass-through relief and keeping it easy to sharpen, also the use of magnacut makes a gigantic difference because it can hold a low angle edge better than less tough steels while remaining easy to sharpen and reprofile..I nearly did the mike irie ground version but instead opted for the 20cv dlc because I loved the contrast and dlc has been a favorite of mine..I'd bet apples to apples your knife will cut better and longer than most knives that are thinner bte but thicker at the spine..test it our and let me know🤩

    • @Graham_Rob
      @Graham_Rob 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Rollshambo yea I agree that’s why I went for it. so as I keep sharpening it stays thin. It’s rlly just the choil that bugs me but it’s not a big deal overall it’s a banger knife. I’m just big into sharpening so I get caught up on that. And yea I like the DLC but I much prefer Maganacut so I had to go for it. It’s so good for my work and edc. Plus I live in NC so the humidity can rust a blade quick.

    Dlc will only lower the RC or low temper steels (like 20cv) so that's absolutely 100% correct that it will drop the rc by between 1 and 2 however on high speed steels the temper is so high that it will not affect them so it's pretty much only on stainless high alloy steels, on your high speed tool steels the tempers are so high that the 400-500F that the pvd process takes the blade to for the DLC application will not soften them what so ever.

    I just can't get over how bad the pocket clip is... It doesn't go with the knife at all in my opinion.. Really kills the aesthetics..

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      TRM doesn't do milled clips, but I do wish they would..the clip itself functions perfectly..Great retention, doesn't interfere with ergos and will work with any garb...esthetically it's underwhelming, functionally it's great..but I do wonder what a milled clip from then would look like on this piece

  • @rustyshackleford5331

    That's not true dlc. When it's real dlc you can see the blade grind through the dlc coating, because dlc is a thin coating. That looks like a pvd coating that's on the blade

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hmm interesting... I don't believe TRM would intentionally lie about the coating they used but I guess we will find out as the knife gets used and carried
      EDIT: your comment inspired me to do some research and I thought this tidbit was worth the discussion- PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition and refers to how the coating is applied - DLC is the coating material itself and is applied to metals in 2 different ways, one of which is PVD the other is called CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) - DLC is DLC regardless of how it was applied , one may look different than the other but they are the same thing since DLC is the substance being applied not the process being used to apply it. I reached out to TRM to see if they would be willing offer up more info - thanks for the discussion piece!

    • @Rollshambo
      @Rollshambo  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Update - TRM got back to me, they use a company called Northeast Coating to do the DLC, this company uses a process that combines both cvd and pvd application processes to apply the DLC..that said it is real DLC.. thanks for going down the rabbit hole with me Rusty! 🙌

    • @rustyshackleford5331
      @rustyshackleford5331 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Rollshambo I think we still need to go down the hole a bit further on this one, brother. PVD, CVD, and DLC are all different types of coatings. If they are mixing DLC with those it's not true DLC. I guess if they want to be honest they need to call it cut DLC. The Tuya Wrath V2, Kunwu, and the new Kizer Militaw are all true DLC finished. If it's real DLC you can see the blade finish through the coating. If it's not DLC or apparently DLC mixed with other coating you can't see the blade finish through the coating. Reate even list a DLC coating, but it's not real DLC. LTK just released a Blade Show video from the Kizer booth. It's funny af when he ask the Kizer guy if the Militaw has real DLC. If you watch that video the Kizer rep explains about DLC. Also, Jim Skeleton's review of the Tuya Wrath V2 he explains what DLC is. I really appreciate you taking the time to get back with me on this. As a community we need to hold all of these knife companies accountable for what they advertise their products to be. It's just like companies listing this Chinese fake fat carbon as actual Fat Carbon. I have no problem with the carbon fiber at all. I have a problem with them listing it as something it's not.
