The verse on the grave translates to,,,Here underneath this little stone Lies Robert, Earl of Huntingdon Never archer were as he so good And people called him Robin Hood Such outlaws as he and his men Will England never see again Obit: 24 December 1247AD. The MCMV is the year 1905.
The tower is 16th century and part of the old Kirklees priory. Obviously if it was Roman (2000 years ago) there wouldn't be any wooden remains like you see. As some has pointed out the Roman numerals say 1905 which was when repairs were made to stop it falling completely. It's an interesting place and nice place to explore.
Hello friend. MCMV = M+CM+V = 1000+900+5 = 1905, hence you have more likely found yourself some Victorian Foley. Another give away was all the Rhododendron. Hppy hunting. Kindest regards, Robert.
@vanaals Yes. There had been plans for a restoration or an Airbnb but the land owner wouldn't allow access from the road for parking. If it's the one I'm thinking of. The grave has been covered several times by other vloggers. It wasn't used. The area was built around as a folly/fake grave for the eccentric land owner nearby. Tower built in 1905
Greetings Ben! At the time of King Richard and Robin Hood... There were 3 family Grandfather...Son and Grandson... all with the Norman surname of Disney. Which explains this old Folk Song 'Robin Hood, Robin Hood riding through the grass... Sheriff Disney saw him and shot him in the ___'
Your adventures would be so much more exciting if you'd do a bit of research beforehand and find out what you are visiting. There's bound to be local Historical Societies, libraries, etc where you can find history of places you visit.
I understand what you mean, yet on the other hand, I very much love the just passing by, let's have a look atmosphere, where it's the commentators that provide location, context, history, details. It's what makes this channel stand out for me 🙂
Given your regular run-ins with aggressive plant life, you should go and buy yourself some firehose canvas type coveralls. You'll feel like you're wearing armor the next time you have to deal with thorn bushes!
That grave is in private grounds now, so I was led to believe. I purposely didn't go to find it because of that. Legend says Robin asked his friend Little John to fire an arrow, and where it lands is where he wants to be buried. I have a video on my channel of Little Johns grave.
That grave inscription is not from the 12 hundreds, but MUCH LATER, 18thl19th century at the earliest. The tower can't be old if the wooden parts are original. Again this is likely more recent than you suppose. 1905 date. Water Tower, often built in 'Roman' style at that time. Latin date over doorway says 1905. Kevin Costler is not old traditional, but very recent. Robin Hood stories around 14th century. Films, i e Errol Flynn 1950's. Richard Green TV 1950's etc.

1905 is when the tower was restored by historians.

Hate to break it to you, but that isn't Roman brick work.
Could it be a folly?

The Romans weren't around 2000 years ago either 😂

Before you even hinted at who is buried, I honestly got the eery feeling that you may be walking into Herne the Hunter in that forest, really strange.
No, I was not there at that time...lol
@@hurnethehunter 😂🤣😂 👍🏻👍🏻
it might refer to Roman numerals. In Roman numerals, MCMV translates to the year 1905.
What an amazing find! This structure needs to be restored, is this on private or public land? Either way it needs to be preserved and protected.
Looks like medieval keep .The spikes as you call them are to stop enemy scalling wall .Good fined.

Probably a Folly??
You make the claim that it is a Roman tower. What do you have to back up that claim?
Interesting 🎉
Mcmv is 1905 in roman numerals
Looks like a folly to me
Dig him up! 🪦
There is nothing buried there. Ground penetrating radar confirms
Very roman. 1905 (MCMV)
Like Judge Dread and King Arthur Robin Hood is just a story.
Judge Dred is fiction.
King Arthur and Robin Hood are factual.
You’re ignorant.
Where is this?
The English countryside
Mirfield
