Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could th-cam.com/users/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
Man, I’ll tell you what, I love that rod! I have multiple spinning and baitcaster versions. The latest one, 6’9” MH- baitcaster, I caught a 6+ pounder on.
My first baitcast combo (and currently my only baitcast gear!) Is a med-heavy vengeance rod from Walmart that was mislabeled as a slightly cheaper rod (win) paired with a lew's speed spool classic pro ordered off Karl's- was definitely worth ordering a better reel (my Walmart has a really weak selection of reels) I won't be outgrowing this combo any time soon.

Good video Larry but I have to argue a point that you made about it doesn't matter if you have any expensive combo cheap combo it does when it comes to the rods I've got $50 rods that I've missed a lot of fish on and I've got three and $400 rods that I seldom if ever miss fish on when I set the hook they're a whole lot faster and load up much quicker😜👌🎣
Just got my rod in the mail to go with my black max reel i found for $19! Looks good can't wait to run it through the paces.

I usually spend a few hundred bucks in there but I always go in there with a goal in mind and have to take a taxi so it doesn't make sense for me to only spend ,$20 when I just spent $15 to get there. So I pick out what I want from the Catalog and spend shipping on a can instead. Works out great for a gun or something they can't ship. Ammo last year I had shipped to my apartment fed ex because they could not ship by Post office took two days.
Man I’m still enjoying my 130$ Walmart set up😂 a 6’10 lews rod with a lews speed spool bait caster, best decision I’ve ever made of getting a bait caster, it stresses me out some times but man do I love this combo
I picked that up. Hated the reel, rod snapped really early on. Got a diawa pro caster cc80 combo for a similar price. Much better.
